He's working on a solution for mods, as far as I know, and there's nothing he can really do for texture packs.
To clarify, the main reason texture packs have to update is that ALL the block textures and ALL the item textures are in terrain.png and items.png respectively. So any time he changes those two files, us pack makers have to update them as well since the copies we have completely overwrite the default ones when they are loaded. (Fixing that would be more trouble than it's worth.)
Fortunately _Jeb has been tweeting what textures are being added ahead of time so we can get a head start on updating. Unfortunately he missed some from this last update so even those of us who tried to be ready weren't. (I don't know if that's _Jeb's fault or if Notch added some stuff at the last minute or without mentioning to to _Jeb.)

Welp, guess whose back! I'll probably continue to lurk, but I just wanted to congratulate and thank yet again Glimmar for making and maintaining this amazing pack. It's fantastic mate, and I can't wait for the 1.6 update!

Welcome back, mate. It's good to see you're still alive and kicking! :smile.gif:
I'm having to give in tonight. Too many late nights this week and finding it frustrating trying to get my bland grass to work nicely with the new tall grass.
Is anyone else having problems trying to play the game offline? I can logon and play with my password, etc. so my game is still legit since buying it in the summer of 2010, but if I try to play it offline, so that I can see my new hi-res character, I'm getting a warning at the top that my game is now an illegal copy!! Which is obviously not the case I hasten to add, or I wouldn't be able to update and play perfectly well when logged on. I'm just wondering if MC Patcher is making it seem like the game is different somehow, or Notch has changed something about the copyprotection that is screwing up offline play.
Anyway, that and all the kids running haywire at the prospect of school hols has made me give up for tonight. Sorry folks!
PS. Playing around with the new hatch I've made has opened up alsorts of ways of using it. makes great steps fixed to a wall or floating walkway. Window frames...not tested yet to see if it can be used on glass. Even fold down tables or shelves and cupboard doors. Oh I've decided the extra desert plant will be tumbleweed and have already made a nice texture for it. The ease with which they can be destroyed made me want to chose something dry and crispy, rather than a succulent cacti like plant...somehow that seemed more believable! Sorry no pics until I get all the changes finalised.
A new map texture is still planned for a later update, then I can do it justice.

Good to have you back Ssaint!
I was getting all nostalgic and started reading some of the first pages of this magnificent thread! I was originally trying to see on which page I posted my first post here.
It amazes me how many people have come and gone and stayed. Glimmar, you have created something that has brought so many people together..and yes much props to Notch for Minecraft itself, but within that realm you sit high, higher than most. Your sheer creative talent has brought me into contact with so many other wonderful people. Some I've become very fond of and now call friend.

I agree with the above statements and I must say that without your texture pack Glimm minecraft would not shine as bright nor have such a fond place in my heart.

I feel the same way, its not as fun without it. your texture pack is the only one that I use and my 1st. tk you for all your hard work for you =3
I have encountered a problem even aft using Xau's patcher. The nether rack was quickly fixed however, the rain still does not show up. Instead it gives me a solid grey grid saying " missing" if there is anything that you have encountered or solved like this before, that would be most helpful. Because I really do enjoy your texture pack, however it is difficult to use under such circumstance.
Hey I just want to say first and foremost that your pack is absolutely amazing. I was hating on the industrial look of anything until I downloaded it and saw for myself, it is soo awesome!! However I am a complete noob and cannot figure something out so I was hoping you can help me. In all your screenshots the water is a beautiful greenish color, instead of the default blue. When I log in this is not the case....no pretty green water. I have the HD texture fix and everything else seems normal, so is this a biome thing or did I do something wrong?
Edit: nevermind I'm an idiot :laugh.gif: I had the wrong patcher...

Sounds like you're using the wrong patcher. You want Kahr's patcher, not the old Xau one.
Furthermore, there's an updated patcher for 1.6.
People, you need to make sure you download an updated patcher as frequently as you download an updated texture pack! Does no one understand what the patcher actually does? :unsure.gif:

"Don't know why you should feel that there's something to learn... it's just a game that you play."
Seeing as I was doing it anyways, I thought I'd share my quick fix edit for the rest of you until Glimmar ponies up the update.
Terrain File
I wasn't entirely sure what the block was under the Diamond block on the new default terrain file, so I put the grass top there because that's what it looked like on the default terrain file.
-The trapdoor was simply an edit of the top of the chest.
-Moved the grass over from the wild grass textures already there.
-Put the small cactus in the place of the dead bush.
-Fern in for the fern, then moved the yellow flower up where the fern was.
The only thing I noticed in making a new world was that the tall grass is randomly centered. It varies, even on the default texture, so it sometimes extends off of the side of the block it is on.
Item Sheet
Just moved the existing paper icon over to the map, then erased the image on the original paper to make it blank.
Rename to terrain.png and items.png respectively.
And again, Glimmar keep up the good work. My world wouldn't look the same without your hard work on this pack.
EDIT: I finally found the ferns in the new world I made. They look interesting with the biome color's applied.
I suggest that for the update you make the hatch look metallic in nature, like something you would see on the top of a submarine. Merely a suggestion, but I hope you take it.
I agree I already fiddled with it a bit and I think the metalic tree's texture with some color added looks very nice as the hatches almost like a grate.

Right, Just a quick post to let you know I am progressing with the update. Here's what I've done so far:
The terrain.png file is all up-to-date with all the new stuff, along with numerous edits to other things there.
I'm hoping you'll like the new hatch, I probably spent half a day at least on about 20 variations (I'll put some of them on the terrain sheet), settling on something that is as flexible as can be, whilst still remaining woody/metallic and steampunk and in-keeping with the other items like doors and craftbench, fitting nicely alongside the current furniture as an extra work surface. It also makes an excellent suspended walkway and steps (so it tiles ok). Works great in it's primary function as a trapdoor, but also looks pretty 'nifty' as a barrier(?), window shutter, porch cover, wings on the side of flying vehicles, pretend shelves...well the list is just endless really. I think it's one of Notch's most flexible creations yet!
I've also gone and finished the new map, but don't expect anything too far out steampunk...it's believable, hi-res and does it's job fitting in with everything else in this theme, but no cogs!
The items sheet is now very nearly complete, just 4 sets of armor icons to finish, but they depend on what I come up with for my steampunk variations, so there's no point in trying to do something now.
I've all but finished up some hi-res steampunk leather armor with just the boots, a utility belt, and a set of items sheet icons to finish.
As some of you know, this is the half term school hols here and I'm fairly busy with the family, but whatever free time my wife gives me will be spent on finalising this update, so my sincere apologies for the delay. I want to get this finished as soon as I can, then I can enjoy some extra time with the kids and have a relaxing play with all the new stuff like everyone else. Unfortunately, I'm away from the computer all day tomorrow, so don't expect anything sooner than Sunday now. :sad.gif:
torturran thanks for the temporary update, at least those who can't wait will have something to carry on with.
Again, thank you for your patience and the very supportive comments above...I've only quickly scanned through your posts and at least no-one seems to be cursing me for being so slow, I'm hoping you'll forgive the delay when you see the new things I've done. :smile.gif:
