Haha! We've all been in that situation at the start. I think that's the magic of Minecraft that takes grip and drags you kicking and screaming into infinity. I did exactly the same my first night in Minecraft. Built a hole in panic without any windows and then probably sat shivering, scared of the noises, until the next night, because I had no idea when morning had come around, but I was hooked on the possibilities. I'd just come to Minecraft from a less famous free survival game called 'Stranded II' and it was a breath of fresh air, though no disrespect to SII which was excellent, but it never realised it's awesome potential.
Good to hear from you again, Josh. I hope everything is going well with the band, etc.
Thanks Glimmar!
Yeah everything is going really great with the band. We are about to play at Maker Faire tomorrow to a crowd of possibly 8000 or more! We've also been doodling with some new song ideas, and refining two other new ones.
I've told my webmaster to add a prominent link to your thread, but he's been a little slow on the updates. I'll bug him again next time I see him.
So about the monsters... can they break through your shelters? Or am I just being paranoid? I can hear them literally right outside of my little cabin. I did have a window but I closed it up once the noises started.
I also found it interesting that I didn't hear anything until much later in the night. I did build my cabin at the very top of the highest mountain in my visual range too. So maybe they spent all that time climbing? LOL!

Glad to hear. Hope everything goes amazingly at the Maker Faire...that sounds quite a crowd! Wow! A link on your website would be awesome, but don't worry if not. :smile.gif:
Nope. They can't destroy anything, except you. But there is a mod to changes that though
Haha! Well that's one mod I won't be trying out then! :blink.gif: I get the Heebie Jeebies just wandering round the empty halls I've constructed, expecially with some of the random noises that go on! :unsure.gif:
Of course
Oh, and make sure to place your doors on the outside of your cabin, that way mobs can't attack you through your door, and creepers can't blow up half your house when standing at a door.
Yes they do rather like to stand at the door creepily peering through!
The great joy of Minecraft is devising ever more ingenious ways of dealing with them and making your home environment safe to move around. Having said that, when i first started out and had built a nice apartment in the side of a mountain, which has now become a great fortress, I lived above a family of zombies, little realizing for ages where all the moaning was coming from!! :unsure.gif:
I bring you Parts 1 & 2 of Castle Bran. I built this on the Minecraft500.com server for the admin 2Bucks. Nice fellow, funny crowd of minecraftians...if you are looking for a decent SMP server give them a try!
Fantastic scale and wonderful ideas for all to try out there, Pipe. The amount you get built amazes me. I know you invedit material in, but I also know everything is constructed by hand, so how you manage to get the Ophelia made and at the same time build Castle Bran and other things, is staggering!
Love the lighthouse idea and the way you set the windows at an angle, which gives the impression they're not blocks anymore. I could list many more original things I haven't seen before in a Minecraft build.

Thanks Glimmar. The lighthouse idea originally came from Kendawg11. I don't Invedit I really cheat and use WorldEdit or VoxelSniper...so it is inaccurate to say I place each block by hand...

[edit] I will of course never cease to be amazed at the scale of what you make, Pipe! It's the vision that counts and you have it in truckloads.
hey i have a big problem. The texture pack (together with the patcher) install fine and everything runs smoothly and greatly. But then, I install ModLoader (just modloader, no other mod) using TFC Mod Manager (with or without, I don't think it makes any difference) and suddenly like half the grassy dirt blocks in my world change color and texture from what they normally look like to this dark grey cement-like color (almost looks like smooth stone in vanilla minecraft). How do I fix this?

Simple fix! Unpatch the game, then repatch it, but make sure the BetterGrass patch box is unchecked. Should fix that problem right up.

Yep. Solution...as captain says above. There's a known incompatability between the BetterGrass option in MC Patcher and ModLoader. I got this last week when I played around with the Piston mod which required ModLoader. My BetterGrass suddenly went grey. :sad.gif:
Love the pack, we all play Minecraft here in the house, and we have a LAN world all in Steampunk. Mansion-laboratory included.
I was wondering if I could contribute something for consideration for inclusion into the pack? I'm the house's modder, and usually alter our version of the texture pack as we play, swapping textures here and there, then yesterday, I decided to give us Steampunk Armour. The first thing I thought of was iron armour, and here's the results.
If you want, I can upload the base files.

Hi Korstmahler.
Many thanks for the compliment and glad you're enjoying using my pack.
Thank you for offering the use of your steampunk armor, that's very kind. I'm currently working on the armor at this very moment (though it won't be ready for the next update), and I'm not looking to include anything else directly in the finished pack, as I still have ambitions of finishing things off with my own work as originally planned.
However, I'm always looking for alternatives that others might like better than my own. These are always made available in my 'extras' download for all to use, properly identified with the contributors name. If you're happy to share in this way, I would love to include them. More choice = happier users.
By the way I'd love to see any nice pics of your steampunk world...Mansion laboratory and all...sounds great!
I was gonna upload it, but since it's so small a zip file, I'll just email it to you and spare us both the adverts.
As for the world, we had a mishap with the server not too long ago, but we've recovered, with the only fault being minor damgage to the laboratory. It's half built now.
The House was built by two people, myself and a flatmate. both our rooms within the house are fairly small, and each leads up to the attic where the experiments are performed(mostly redstone, water and zombies when we can lead them up there).
Inside the attic is the main body of the lab. this is the veiw from the roof extension.
This is a side-on view of the house. Entirely inconspicuous, with the exception of the glass roof experiment chamber and covered track to the mine. Yes, that's a tree under it. It started as a tree-house.
Within the mine, we have a few safe-rooms in case of attack. The mine is over a cavern leading so far down, we can only assume it reaches the earth's core. Or bedrock.

Very nice work there and good to see some of my paintings being put to use in an imaginative way. I like the idea of the lab at the top of the tower, somewhat reminds me of a Frankenstein theme. Would be nice if it was possible to attract lightning to power things as it would fit the idea of zombies, skeletons and steampunk and your experimental lab! :smile.gif:
Keep up the good work, mate.
As regards the armor, whichever is easiest for you. Just posting the .png files in the thread would allow folk to use straight away and also see who was the artist, I wouldn't see it as advertising yourself...you deserve recognition if you did the work. If you email me the stuff, I will still include your name with the file in the 'extras' download.
So I guess you are all reading and taking in the fixes and changes in Notches 'Changelist', posted in advance of his update this week. A very impressive list indeed.
After a cursory glance through, I note the following will effect the pack by way of new graphics/textures:
Added craftable maps
Added hatches
Added tall grass in some biomes
If you see something I've missed, I'd appreciate you pointing it out!
I may not be so fast in updating this time around. Real life seems to be impinging evermore these days, but as soon as I can I will post an update, including any other changes I've been working on. I got side-tracked from the armour by finishing more of the items off (tired at the end of the day made the little items look more relaxing and attractive)...new flint and steal steampunk cigarette lighter, sugar, snowball, armour dummy(?), bowl, mushroom stew, fish and cooked fish and may be more. Not an impressive list, but as I say I'm very busy with other things at the mo' and somewhat lacking enthusiasm at the end of the day. :huh.gif:

Here you go!(If anything's messing up thanks to the host, direct image saving from the site should do the trick)
We were talking shortly after the weather update, and were hoping to find Notch had added altitude based objects attracting lightning. The intention was to somehow get a pig up there and wait for lightning to strike.

Creepers can destroy blocks, but only if they see you (transparent blocks don't count).
