I can't believe he would offend you when you are just stating the rules and asking him to AT LEAST provide credit to Glim.

Anyway, glad you got your computer back up and working! (was it broken before? or were you just changing HD's?) :smile.gif:
@ tyu237 and bactomet: Glad you like the pack and hope you got your probs sorted. Thanks to those who helped in my abscence.:smile.gif: Yes I can confirm the Bettergrass that comes with the new beta patcher works a treat and I've been using it for the past few days. I was always a Bettergrass fan and really glad it's part of the patcher now.
If I get back some more free time from RL I think I'll give the armor a serious wack! :biggrin.gif:
@ Gestankfaust: Glad your comp is still working after you had your hands in it's innards. Sorry the new harddrive didn't work. You set me off trying to transfer my old second hard drive in my old comp to my new machine, but I'd installed so many bits and pieces that, without time consuming detective work, I couldn't remember which cables belonged to which drives. I've given up, which will please my son as he gets to keep the second harddrive. New drives seem so cheap these days (relatively speaking), I think I'll just save my pennies and buy a new one.
As regards the naughty mixer pack guy. I've said my piece over there and hope he listens. I really don't mind people mixing and matching and if he'd asked to use my glowstone with credit, he'd have got it with my blessing, but his atitude to everyone, particularly you and HeadHunter makes me dig my heals in. Sparks' conduct speaks volumes about his maturity. This whole question of asking for donations using the work of others is something the Moderators should look at closely. Really depresses me actually and would be the one thing that would make me seriously give up offering stuff around here! :sad.gif:
@ Tlos: Howdy mate. Everybody's plagued with real life, so we well understand, but always a pleasure when you pop in. It might be me disappearing for a while, due to commitments and the excellent weather we're having in the UK at the moment...when it shines I've got to work outside for my sanity's sake!
@ roadkillwill: Glad you like the paintings. Hope you can find plenty of use for them...I've yet to include many in my own world, but when i retire from texturing, I've got plans for using the chains, pipes and engines in all sorts of areas. Lol!

For those that run bukkit servers and would like to use Kaevator SuperSlopes there is a new plugin that will allow you to do so....
My son has taken over the Bukkit side of things in our house, so I'll let him know.
It's only when we get long gaps between updates that I feel I have the time to look at some of the amzing mods out there. I've just tried out a 'river editor' (sorry I've not got the link now) and it's worked wonders with some of my chunk error problems by way of making my world more natural, but I've yet to look and see if the 'stone' and 'water' biome color mods and the 'ruins' mod have been updated.
I'm pretty slow at trying things, because having a pretty chaotic brain, everything around me has to be neat and tidy, including Minecraft or I end up panicking. That's why I keep putting off the task of tackling my chaotic OP unless I really have to!

We REALLY need more/better moderators in this section. I've reported threads and posts like Sparx' pack and notrhing is done for days.
They'll carry on flaming and troll-calling but you know the moment I let them have it with both barrels, some **** of a moderator will come out and defend his cronies and I'll be the one getting warned.
All those people in General who say "Notch is lazy" should meet the team that moderates this section.

amen!
nominate me as moderator and i will clean up this mess! (i almost exclusively hang around in the texturepack section)
I'd nominate both of you...without hesitation. :smile.gif:
How is that forum rule concerning permission going to matter if it isn't enforced promptly? Matters of using someone's work without permission is a pretty clear breach of forum and ethical rules. It's not like it's debatable or an issue of whether someone has been offensive or not...taking someone's artwork here and re-offering it as your own work, without getting permission first, is a 'clear' breach of forum rules.
It's a sad state of affairs that's only going to get worse I'm afraid, unless something is done about it. In which case I'll just keep any new textures to myself and those I choose to share with. I'm getting closer and closer to that point. Perhaps no-one will miss my textures in the long-run and someone else daft enough will spring up to take my place, but at least I'll feel better about it! :biggrin.gif:
This is where the 'Texture Artists Guild' could really shine, if a sufficient number of artists joined and signed up to some principle rules. Without immediate forum involvement it might be the only real support individual artists here would get. :sad.gif:
after being online for nearly 17 years there are still a few things that surprise me and disappoint me, the biggest being people that think its ok to take the hard work of others and not give them credit let alone ask permission. that is overly disrespectful. but whats worse is how he rationalizes it as ok. over the years on various forums for different games i have seen alot of amazing creators pull down their work, shut down their personal sites and so on because of people that think that because they have no creative power what so ever they can rip someone's hard work then say its their work because they supposedly changed something. it angers me a good bit when i see it happen because i respect the artists and coders and dont want to see them disappear because without them the game becomes just something else to toss in the wasted money pile. *sigh* well hopefully the ***** gets what's coming to him. i hope the moderators start doing the job they were given instead of twiddling their thumbs. and i hope you keep up the amazing work. now back to building that i can blow up >.>

This is the problem at the moment that, as regards stolen textures, a few quick actions from the moderators would quickly bring this particular section back in line and you could put your sixshooter into retirement for good. Well until the next shoot-out!
It's all such a flippin' waste of time and disturbs my normally soft creative centre! Unlike you, when I get embroiled in stuff like that, I have to leave Minecraft and do something else...like break rocks!!
I think it's time for a change of pace from all this yelling at thieves. The moderators have been PM'ed, so they should take care of it (hopefully).
In the meantime, here's an update on the giant dome. I realized that it wouldn't quite cover the corner towers, so I started work on smaller domes over those. I also started adding glowstone around the braces to light it up a bit. Here's some night shots.
I think the biggest problem with the mods is that they are still under-staffed.
They often have well over a thousand reports piled up in the report queue to slog through and thats a lot to ask of someone who isn't getting paid to do it.
~sigh~
I really don't want to put my own hat in the ring but I'm starting to wonder if perhaps I need to just to keep this place somewhere that I still want to dwell. :/ (My main reason for not wanting to be a mod is that I like getting paid to do stuff that feels like work and believe me, moderating a forum like this is work.)

I actually have thrown my hat in the ring. About 2-3 months ago. Seems funny they don't pick a few of the more known and respected people and just give them the mod status, whether they do it all day or not. Some of the new mods I have seen seemed to have all but vanished also.
But anyway..

That is the other side of the coin really. I agree it's not the fault of any individual moderator and it's definately not a job I would like to do either. I shouldn't be so quick to blame the system, but since you mentioned it, it would be awesome if you did feel able to be a moderator around here, as you are someone who would most definately command respect and by your contributions you've shown how much you love the game, but it would certainly be a sacrifice to your enjoyment of the game and the forums. Lol! Somewhat similar to keeping up with texturing...it's feeling a little too much like work at the moment, hence my 'work avoidance' tactics of breaking real rocks in the garden!
On another subject, the subject of your steampunk story and your Texture Mix Machine, I'm still bit by bit editing my OP (on paper) and wanted to ask if i could refer and link to both in appropriate places - the Mix machine along with my alternative textures, so that folk have a way of swapping things around, and also advertising the 'Diary of Vermithrax' which is so complimentary to this pack, if you're still progressing with that world. Not that you'd have any time left if you did become a moderator. I hope that would be ok. :smile.gif:
@ ksheep: That was some awesome legal logic in play over there and thank you for taking the time to add your support in the fray, but I agree we need a change of pace and think about building and landscaping instead of the other stuff. Those domes rock and I like the idea of different sized domes linked together if that's what you meant! Have you seen pics of the 'Eden Project' here in Cornwall, UK?

I have no problems with you linking to either the mix machine or the story I have.
I've not been able to really work on those much lately as my time has been going to another project.
For the curious, I am writing my own game, or at least trying to. I do this periodically and figure eventually I'll get something to a state where I might actually be able to DO something with it. People who want to stalk me should just go to my website thefool76.com as I'm slowly updating that and connecting my various scattered projects to it.
Anway, part of that has involved some serious effort by my wonderful wife to help me better organize my time which meant I had to cut some things. The good news is that I have "Work on minecraft stuff" penciled in for my 'daily project hour' for next month.
So I haven't dropped either of those projects but it isn't likely much will get done on either one till next month.
That said, I will update the copy of your pack I have on the mix machine ASAP glimmer. One of the first things on my list for when I do pick up work on that again is allowing you (and others with packs) to update your own stuff without having to wait on me.

LOL - You wouldn't be near the first on my list. After all, Pazaz makes time-wasting an art and I haven't banned him yet, have i? ;p
I'm not sure I'd make the best moderator. I've done it before (on the official Day of Defeat forums and the MMGN BF1942 forums) but I'm not exactly the kindest guy when enforcing authority. I only worked well when I had the support of administrators who knew when to unleash the "tough love" that only I could deliver.
I'm not sure they'd accept someone with a warning level of 2 as a moderator - I wouldn't necessarily behave differently with authority to back me. But responsible, level-headed souls are abundant here, as you've mentioned.

"Don't know why you should feel that there's something to learn... it's just a game that you play."
@Gestankfaust- I'd be happy to help out, I only need to get back into the feel of creating 32x32, as I was working in 16x16 there for a while. That, and I need free time. Luckily, finals start soon, so I should have much more time after that, save for on weekends.
Also, here's something that I bet you wouldn't expect from me at the moment (or maybe you did expect it, I wouldn't know), new items!
- A new pick, iron at that. - Yet another sword.
Both were made in a new (to me) way I've been testing out, and I think I may like it, if only a little.
Here is a new item sheet, starting fresh, these as starters. (It's more compact as well) -
Good news, Sparx's thread has been locked. Also, reported him to Adf.ly, as he breached the terms of service on that, so we shouldn't have any more problems from that area.

Curse PremiumGuess they didn't think of that while programming it....
Also, here's something that I bet you wouldn't expect from me at the moment (or maybe you did expect it, I wouldn't know), new items!
Both were made in a new (to me) way I've been testing out, and I think I may like it, if only a little.
Here is a new item sheet, starting fresh, these as starters. (It's more compact as well) -
