Sheep this pack is just beautiful... It really is. Perhaps the BEST 16p Pack I've ever used. As a Matter of fact, on the SMP Server I go on it is now the Official Texture Pack of my UnderGround City I'm working on. I might have to show you some pics! XD
Anyways, great stuff. The 16p Equivelant of Glimmar's Steampunk.
This is what one person said on Sheep pack last night! :biggrin.gif: Made me swell with pride! (mostly the last line hehehe)
@Gestank, That's a great looking castle! It's small, but it sure has a lot of character! I'm sort of ashamed to admit it, but I've NEVER built a castle in minecraft! Never!
Oh well, that's going to change!
Also, whatever happened to Glimmar's Steampunk 16p? (just out of curiousity) :tongue.gif:
LOL, what you don't see is the cavernous space underneath the ice! You gotta watch that Gestankfaust....he's a tricky ****.
@Gestankfaust - good to see you getting time to build stuff!
Rename to 'grasscolor' and place directly in your 'misc' folder in the 'minecraft.jar' file.
Rename to 'foliagecolor' and place directly in your 'misc' folder in the 'minecraft.jar' file.
It is necessary to place these directly into your 'minecraft.jar' file or the changes will not be recognised...that was my experience anyway! If you wish to swap them over by placing them into my texture pack, it will be necessary to re-install Minecraft, then Glimmar's Steampunk (with the new biome files), followed by xau's MC patcher. So dropping them directly into the 'minecraft.jar' file is a lot easier.
When I have enough new things to include in my texture pack, I will release an updated version. I'm not sure that new biome colours warrants the hassle of re-installing from scratch, but if there is sufficient demand from folks who are not overly familiar with dropping things directly into the 'minecraft.jar', I'll package something up sooner. :smile.gif:
As mentioned previously in the thread. If you use the 'WildGrass' mod, you may wish to keep my original biome 'grasscolor.png' file as it gives much more dramatic (and in my view, realistic looking) clumps of exotic grasses.
I travelled my world extensively, looking at the grass and foliage, but there's always going to be areas I haven't been able to cover, so if there's anything that looks too weird, let me know. Just bear in mind there are supposed to be areas of ochre/brown/dark grey grass - these represent specific areas according to the biome reference triangle Notch himself created:
Hence why my grass is purposefully texturally low-key for heather, mud, worn, dead, course, stoney (scree), frozen, etc. areas that add variety to any landscape.
Foliage has some surprises too, but not as extreme as before, although some trees are supposed to look slightly pink to give the impression of blossom...see first pic above.
Please remember that the theme of the pack is supposed to lean towards the dark side of an industrialised world...not a pretty 'medieval' one. If you are unfortunate enough to have landed or already built in an area of dead looking grass it's not 'my' fault. There are pleasant and barren areas in any world and if there is going to be variety, you have to take the good with the bad I'm afraid! :smile.gif:
When I've more time, I'll see about making a totally toned down set of biome colours. :smile.gif:
I'm also thinking about brightening up the light levels of the textures in general for those that don't like the dark at night!
@ Xytherea: Nice work there!
A new 'Spotter' Airship skin coming very soon!
You are awsome for making this post. And Google is even better for helping me find it via GIS. :smile.gif:
Since I first saw your thread, I was curious about how it looks in the game. But I'm not really fan of steam punk, or even RPG style. I like smooth and simple packs.
Every time I saw your thread, I though "maybe I could give it a try, it looks nice", but didn't do so.
And finally I tried. My God this is unbelievable. Ok it's quite far from the original look of the game but damn, you did such an amasing work. All these details, everything looks great and is very enjoyable.
When I first saw the GUI, furnace, and craft table... man... I couldn't believe my eyes.
This is a masterpiece, thank you.

Did Pipe call me a ****?
About the 16x version...I got frustrated with having to tackle some of the more incredible work Glimmar has done. I may try some more of it...but holy crap @ trying to get some if his fine details to behave in 16p!

Awesome. No other words can describe it. for you. And one other thing, I love the pictures you have on here too, I showed my friends, and they now have minecraft and this TP. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much, mate. I always appreciate the encouragement. :smile.gif:
And you are absolutely right about the pics. What folk have built with my textures makes me really proud and grateful to the builders for having such awesome imaginations!

Beautiful build, mate, with masses of character.
Fantastic the way you have the foundations going underwater like that, as it accentuates (great word that!) it's solidity. Bags of atmosphere too in that icy waste, so top marks all round Gestankfaust. Wow! Pipeworld must be looking fabulous at the moment with all the glimpses of individual builds I keep getting. Is there another tourist's vid in the offing?

You well deserve the praise mate, but if I'd been you mate I'd have been disappointed to be compared to an old washed out texture pack like mine!
@ Yorda: Many thanks, mate. :smile.gif:
Don't forget the biome triangles in that extract are now out of date and riddled with faults. The latest ones are much better, but my next update, which is coming very soon has yet another updated grasscolor triangle to get rid of entirely any evidence of grey colourless grass in the arctic regions. I had thought the grey would pass for dead frozen grass, but it has the effect of making it look like there's a fault with the game properly overlaying colour on the grass texture.
@ Building Inspector: Many thanks, and love your name! Feels great to have been visited by the 'building inspector'!

I'm not an out and out steampunk fan myself, but I think the theme lends itself wonderfully to the epic side of Minecraft building and the thing that's more important to me than the theme, is that what you build with it, looks as good as it can from a distance. So if you like smooth texture packs, you might not be too disappointed with the main building blocks of this texture pack. That's one of the reasons I tend to belabour the terrain.png file more than anything and I've just spent the past 24 hours working on my cobblestone again to remove some annoying patterns that crept in when converting it from a 3 course cobble to a 4 course version for the halfblock update. I can't say this next version is 'perfection', but it's a lot better than before in my eyes.
Thanks for taking the trouble to write an encouraging comment! makes all the difference!

Congratulations on having 5000 posts in this thread. That being said… 5000TH POST! WOO!!!!
Anyway… what are your thoughts on the map? Are you planing on making some steampunkish map, or just a normal paper-and-ink looking item?
It's a pity the 5000th post didn't happen at the same time as the 500,000th view. Lol. I never aticipated this thread getting to those milestones. Congrats ksheep for being the 5,000th poster! Sorry I wasn't better prepared with a prize or anything. :sad.gif:
Hah! The map. I'm not sure at all really. I like to keep my head as free from speculation as I can until I've got my hands on something and this nice spell between updates has allowed me to look over some things that badly needed attention, and has come at just the right time for things that I need to get done in real life. Especially as it's been such glorious weather for the past couple of weeks where I live in the UK. Lol! I'm so slow though, I'm almost good at it! :biggrin.gif:

oddbaall, I posted this just yesterday on the previous page. I keep meaning to update my OP with all the stuff I've collected and this list will be included too:
Glimmar's Steampunk 'Things to Build' List Gatehouse, moat, tower, bathhouse, sauna, engine-room, pump-house, forge/blacksmith shop, workshop, great hall, kitchens, pantry, informal garden, formal garden, various crop fields with farms, fields for domestic animals, fountains, boat house, river caves, canals, aquaducts, viaducts, sewers, monuments, various collosi, bedrooms, various road types, paths, tree lined avenues, greenhouses, conservatory, glass houses, domes, minarets, vaults/treasury, balcony, armoury, arches, arched avenues, beacon towers, light house, cemetary, memorials, churches, cathedrals, waterfalls, traps, hovels, houses, mansions, apartments, secret garden, canals, rivers with naturally planted river banks, plantations, strange forests, jungles, swamps, archery/rifle range, colloseum, arenas, gallery, railways, small stations, large railway stations, docks, harbours, quays, railway bridges, foot bridges, wells, ponds, formal water gardens, cascades, mausoleum, irrigation, log flume, saw mill, flour mill, bakery, various shops, alchemist's shop, fair, factory chimneys, barn, warehouse, maze, museum, library, laboratory, temple, wooden sailing ship, iron sailing ship, submarine, marine base, marine city, underwater walkway, hidden tunnels and secret entrances. alleyways, slums, cranes, dams, piers, observatory, airships, airship hangers, airship stations, lamp stands, mine pump house and wheel tower, ruins,
One thought I had for the map is something like this. Not quite steampunk (1920's era), but should be able to fiddle with it. Problem is, not sure how you'd be able to convert it into something that fits with how the map actually works.

That's actually a pretty cool little gizmo, but as you say probably not possible to do anything with it ingame. :smile.gif:
If there are any other ideas for the map, now's the time to post 'em before my mind is influenced by other things. Lol! When's the map expected by the way?
VERY nice texture, but I have a question and a problem...
Question: Are you going to change armor skins?
Problem:Pumpkin and some other blocks a broken, having mini fires, lava, a water in places. I just downloaded from the mediafire link and then placed it in the texture pack folder. Anything I forgot?

Answer: Yes, he is planing on working on it, but he has some other things that need work at the moment.
Solution: Use the HD texture patcher, and make sure you use the latest version.
Without the 'extras' folder this is a much smaller download than normal!
Here's the full list of changes, edits and tweaks as far as I can remember:
New slightly higher res color coordinated rain to fit my water and better scale with the new splash particles. Has anyone else noticed the rain.png file seems to be read by Minecraft back to front or rather upside down. I hope this isn't just in my world! If it's upside down for you, then it must have been a glitch in my world, but I've gotten tired of waiting to see the rain again to tripple check it! Let me know
All new splash particles.
Edited the smoke particles.
Edited flame particles for gas lamp, lava and furnace. As a result the torch is more 'lamp-like', furnace more 'chymical' and lava jumping flame more 'phosphorus' like.
Edited the booster tracks, adding pistons that move the spinning cogs back and forth against the track and other things, including a rogue black pixel that found it's way onto the top of the track. With the 'piston track' there is a greater sense of movement when the booster is powered and unpowered.
Tweaked the 'detector' track to fit new redstone pipes.
Edited the 'time machine' bed further to make it more symetrical for use as an object other than just a time machine bed and fixed missing rivets.
Re-introduced redstone steam pipes, but with more glowing parts to better indicated strength of redstone power. (thank you Notch for obviously listening to everyone bemoaning the loss of the old redstone wire). I'm sure there's more that can be done with the redstone wiring, so I will keep pondering the possibilities.
Fixed rogue pixels along bottom edge of snowy dirt block.
Tweaked snow block to remove a dark line of pixels that had always been there!
Completely reworked the side of the frosty/snowy dirt block
Still can't decide what to do about the mushrooms. I just couldn't get used to the changes after a while, so changed the blue mushroom to a slightly more edible looking color and kept the red mushroom! After much experimentation I came to the conclusion that the dense cluster of mushrooms works better 'in the round' than large single mushrooms :sad.gif:
You'll probably think it a waste of time, but I spent more than a day re-editing the cobblestone block. I got it to a stage that I was happier with than I've been since the half blocks made me change from a 3 course cobble to a 4.
Grasscolor.png biome triangle had another edit to solve the problem of grey topped grass in the arctic giving the impression there was no colour. Hopefully there won't be any more mysteries surrounding my biomes and I apologise to those who probably tried all sorts of things to fix what might have first appeared to be a bug! :sad.gif:
Tweaked the cracking animation to add slightly more depth.
There's probably other things I've forgotten to include above, but there's nothing headliningly astounding. However, the changes should make things a little more satisfactory than you've had to put up with for the past two weeks.
There's no 'extras' folder with this update. As I mentioned previously I'm going to make that a separate download now and will upload that as soon as I've updated it. I will do this as soon as possible for those who wish to edit the pack to their satisfaction and use things like the 'Xtreme' art file, etc.
Gestankfaust, my apologies, I've not had chance to properly decide on animated lava yet, so I've not put it in this update by default. I will include it in the 'extras' folder when that's updated for folk to drop in themselves, but I'm conscious of the effort you put into it and don't want to offend, mate. :smile.gif:
Now I'm off to watch the second episode of the 'New Doctor Who' series!
