G'morning Glimmar! (yes...I'm up early, not up late :biggrin.gif:)
Well, it turns out better than when I posted earlier about the lava/water/portal animations. I actually have a cool lava done now and a water started that has a very abstract Cthulhu thing goin on.
The worst part of it all, really, is that it takes away from "your art" in order to animate. Like taking an oil painting and putting it in a kaleidoscope. Once you realize that you are working on something different, you can blend the two nicely.
Another bad part, is that it's not animation as we think of it. The files are anywhere from 32x1024 long to 4096 or above. The length and timing of the animation really comes from how many frames you put in (not 32x32 frames....frames that only differ 1,2,3 and so on x 32. my first 32x1024 lava had 32 pics used for example. All only 1 pixel off). I went from 1024 to 2048 to slow my lava down as it was animating as fast as my water. And it only animates per block. Meaning, if you put a "1" in the top 32x32 square, it animates on every block of lava/water/portal. The amount that the "1" appears has to do with how long the file (how many 32x tiles there are).
So no "flowing bits" and stuff, just stationary "floating" bits. :biggrin.gif:
I plan on making a video of all the cool/failed attempts at water/lava/portal I try....like the strobe effect I got
Sorry so long...just thought I'd share what had the rest of my hair fall out...so you didn't have to lose as much as I did :biggrin.gif:

If you havent already come and take a look at this upcomming adventure map. Its currently in pre production but we need all the help we can get. Those lovers of steam will love this. viewtopic.php?f=1034&t=252762&p=3566984#p3566984
Sorry Glimmar :sad.gif:
I don't mind, sephirothkane. If it's steampunk and it's got something to do with my texture pack it's probably going to be of great interest to others who use the pack. As you know I'm just focusing on this update at the moment and then taking a break...so not ignoring or disaproving. :smile.gif:

hey guys i'd love to know, is there any rp server for this awesome mod? btw keep up the good work glimmar i love this texture pack :tongue.gif:
Perhaps the upcoming adventure map by sephirothkane in quotes just above yours here ^ might be of interest. There's also 'PipeWorld', but that i think is by invitation. You could speak to Gestankfaust or PipeHead (the founder of PipeWorld). You'll see plenty of their posts in this thread if you scan back through. Just PM them. :smile.gif:
Thank you also for the compliment.

Hehee! No need to apologise, your speaking to the king of prevarication here!
That all sounds very technical though and I need more than my 4 hours sleep a night I've been getting this past week to take it all in, but sounds very interesting. You're more movie/animation orientated than I mate, so if you've found it hard going, it'll be a nightmare for me. Anyways, looking forward to seeing your movie and any finished animation of lava and water for me to 'reverse-engineer' and see how it's all done!
Well, back to the last few 'item' edits I can squeeze in before rolling up the texture pack update and uploading. Wish me luck!

Aint no grave gonna hold my body down, when I here those trumpets sound I'm gonna rise right outta the ground, aint no grave, gonna hold my body down...
I'm still working towards releasing the new Glimmar's Steampunk version 2.0 tonight...late (UK time). Everything is finished, but a little last minute testing, writing the blurb and including some pics for the post, etc. is also very time consuming. Sorry for any delay, folks. :sad.gif:
Trying again and again here to post update, pics and info and it's only letting me post a few sentences before crashing out with the following: Your message contains too few characters. When in actual fact it was full of characters!!!
The all new 'Glimmarwolf', otherwise also known as the 'Clockwork Steamwolf':
A hi-res texture to better show off all the gadgety goodness only a mechanical canine can possess...including extra springy springs in it's legs, hidden oil changing facility, more dramatic changes between wolf states (wild, tame and angry) and the special green Glimmar glowing boiler unit, plus when you tame the beast with bones and polish him up, he'll give you his shiny brass heart in return!
...Not only that, but you're getting an extra 'Baroque' Glimmar wolf too...same Hi-res graphics and located in the 'extras' folder with other alternative mobs.
Many new terrain edits including:
new logs
lava
railtrack
Also the bed (now strapless and less torture-like and thus more adaptable), and better tiling stone and cobblestone (still basically the same textures that you've all grown to hate!), new 'cracking' animation when breaking a block (what do you call this process!) plus all the new textures associated with the Wild Grass mod (vine, baby flowering cactus, daisies, and three other flowers).
New items including:
not just one, but two cookies (or biscuits as we Victorians like to call them), rope(string), seeds, apple (a good English apple!), clockwork egg (they make better clockwork cakes and actually feel like missiles when thrown), extra gooey slime, paddleboat, iron ingot, sign, golden apple, raw porkchop, cooked porkchop, bed, loaf of bread, painting (Queen Victoria), feather (brass?/gold?), bone, wheatsheaf.
I nearly finished all the items, but not quite, so still place holders by kind permission of Vattic and his 'Faithful' double res. items: stone, iron, diamond, and gold armour, sugar, snowball, quiver, bowl and soup bowl, and fish (raw/cooked) and pig saddle.
New 'trap' dispenser Gui:by Glimmar, based on BloodJack's graphics.
New gui(clockwork brass hearts for 'life' and glowing green power valves for 'armour) and a suitable popping green bubble for my green polluted water. :smile.gif:
New particle graphics for 1.4
New 'mclogo' screenedited by The_Fool76. :smile.gif:
New 'improved' Biome colorsfor added natural realism. New for those who didn't take the opportunity to install the files I previously uploaded. If you don't notice a change from v1.9.1 you will need to drop the 'foliagecolor.png' and 'grasscolor.png' files (located in the 'misc' folder in Glimmar's Steampunk v2.0 zip file) directly into the 'misc' folder in the 'minecraft.jar' file in your 'bin' folder. You'll be glad you did! Biome colors not being recognised, is a Minecraft problem, not a texture pack problem!
In the 'Extras' folder you will find:
Alternative 'terrain.png' filesfor: 'SMP Netherplate production', 'Brighter terrain' (not so scary at night!) and variations edited by Gestankfaust and JonathanKent using my new alternative textures. I hope these inspire you to make your own edits to share back on this thread...the only legal way to use my alternate textures! :tongue.gif:
Over 400 alternative terrain texturesfor you to chop and change to your clockwork heart's desire. For personal use only or for re-uploading your steampunk themes to my thread!
Alternative boats (NEW!), minecarts, airships and paddlesteamer skins.
Alternative Biome Colors(including metallic biome colors from ksheep) including a special 'stone' biome triangle for Nandonalt's Stone Biome mod.
Alternative Airship skinsfor pchan3's amazing Steampunk Airship mod.
Alternative Mob and Steampunk Character skins(kindly updated again by Gestankfaust).
Plus some other little surprises! :smile.gif:
I'm sorry I didn't get chance to finish off the 'items' sheet, but felt if I waited any longer I'd run into the Easter hols. when I want to take a break and think about what to do with the armour and also just to do some more building to get my inspiration back. :smile.gif:
As soon as I can, I will get round to updating the credits in the OP, where necessary. Any contributors to the main texture pack are properly credited in 'The Readme and Credits' and any files in the 'extras' folder should also be properly credited too. Let me know if I've made any glaring omissions.
GAH! The TP I've been waiting for days! I'm so happy! The update looks amazing! I can't wait to try it out in game. Your texture pack is my favorite, not to mention the added alternatives. The wolves look wicked.
All I can say is wow. Can't wait to try it. Too bad I'm away from my main computer this weekend. Stuck with my laptop (still running version 1.2) with only limited Internet access.
Thanks everyone! :smile.gif: Hope you like the new stuff, and just to say I've partly sorted out the OP at the top with the new update.
@ Gestankfaust: I haven't forgotten your sig. graphic, mate, it's just too late to do anything constructive in that tangle of an OP I have. I'm taking a break and coming back fresh after the weekend. :smile.gif:

hehe...I didn't even remember that so no worries. I think I'm brain dead after the last two days

OH MY GOD THANK YOU! I have kept this thread open in my browser, clicking the refresh button every five minutes ever since 1.4 went live, and now its here! Everything is as beautiful as ever, especially the wolf which looks great on my army of ten robo-canines. And, whats more, I can have my pi minecart back! Once again I must say, THANK YOU!
