What a weekend it's turning out to be, I just finished setting up Minecraft on my Linux laptop, anticipating this texture pack as much as the Halloween Update, and to top it all the clocks go back this weekend, a whole extra hour of mining and spelunking for me :smile.gif:
This texture pack makes me wish I had a :jawdrop: Smiley, every time i see a new screenshot I just run off to add something to one of my worlds so that they are ready for this.
This is looking amazing. I have been following this pack, (Lurking) for about 2 weeks and it's really looking great. Thanks for all your hard work Glimmar. I just want to say that all us minecraftians really appreciate your time, effort, and talent. You good sir deserve many diamonds and other fabulous treasure. You may have one of my diamonds, just one! Their so precious....precious......
Just to make a suggestion you could make a sword to look like a wrench but I can't wait for it it to be finished. It will be the first texture I download.
ah thats cool happy to see it coming out tomarrow ive been watching this for 3 weeks now luckly where i live it wont be too late at night when it comes out. being a person that is both american and british (always had to keep track of the 2 time zones to talk to family.)
A bit of a rush job in the end, and anyone familiar with my ramblings will know how I feel about the cobblestone (aargh!). Anyway, if all has worked out well with the upload, you've at least got some new graphical toys to play with in your worlds. Mixing and matching very much encouraged. Please just give me a tiny bit of credit if you use something in one of your worlds or re-mixed texture packs. All the artwork is original to me, but credit to Doku for inspiring me to start this project and 'filling in the gaps in my terrain.png with some of his textures' while I slowly progressed with converting everything to a Steampunk theme. Thanks to Eld, John Smith and others for setting the standard.
I am very grateful to everyone who has looked in with encouragement, inspiration, pics and suggestions. As already mentioned, don't expect great things from this pack! Downscaled jpeg images have a way of smoothing out the textures and making them look more high-res than they actually are.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Don't forget to use "xau's HD texture fix" if you're moving up from 16x16 pixel textures or you'll experience lots of glitches with fire, water and lava and you won't get the "pea-soup" water either! Available here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=46173
You can just drop my texture files in the appropriate place in the "minecraft.jar" folder as follows:
Locate your "minecraft.jar"
for Windows 7 (and vista?) it's in:
C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin
Important! First make a backup of the minecraft.jar file in case you do something wrong.
Then open the original minecraft.jar with 7zip (right click on it > "open with" > 7zip). Or whichever archive program you're familiar with (Winrar, Winzip, etc).
Drag and Drop the content of this .zip into the minecraft.jar, as follows:
"terrain.png" and "particles.png" go directly into the "minecraft.jar"
"cart.png" and "sign.png" go into the "item" folder in the minecraft.jar
If you want the full effect of the green gas lamps, then make sure you get the "particles.png" in there as instructed, or the flames coming out of the top of the lamp will be whatever colour your old particles.png file was - usually orange!
Hope that's clear, but if there's a problem, I'll try and help and most peeps on the Mapping and Modding forum are very helpful too.
Please note, as promised, I've included extra textures within the terrain.png file itself for those able to mix and match. You may prefer one of these if you really don't like something.
Expect this pack to have problems after the big Halloween update by Notch...sorry again for the bad timing! As soon as I can, I will edit things to work again and also begin work on steampunk versions of the new block textures...if anyone is still interested! No one knows how any mod or texture pack will be effected. I'll also be looking at adding a lot of new useful wall textures by using the paintings. Things like extra iron panels, recessed steam organ, brass pipe arrangements and 'coggy' things, as well as some symbols for banners and blueprints for decoration.
In the meantime, don't forget to try out Tiger4Ruler's art pack here:
This goes in the art folder in the minecraft.jar and should be renamed kz.png
If you do still like some of my textures, I would very much like to see what things you create with it. Feel free to post in this thread to keep me inspired. When I feel my world is ready for public scrutiny (because it's been on hold for this texture pack), I'll upload it for everyone to have a walk around in. You can torch the place to the ground in revenge if you hate my graphics. :biggrin.gif:
