i do have to say that the green lava does look better than the orange one how do i change it to it ?
Assuming you've cut and pasted it into the lava squares on the terrain.png file you'll need to re-run xau's Patcher on your edited file to get it recognised in-game. This is the same when you change the water texture too. Any other texture you change around can be done without any need for the patcher, but lava and water are a bit of a pain.
Incidentally, I have a new lava texture I've held back for the next update, it's not green I'm afraid, but it tiles better than the current 1.9.1 lava version. New simpler track, better tiling cobble (there is an annoying diagonal wave pattern in the current cobble), edited log types...I can't remember what else I've changed, as I'm still recovering from my alt texture marathon and me brain's in a bit of a fuzz! :smile.gif:
Thought i might drop by and share my progress :smile.gif:
Few screens of some of my textures (ignore the purple and green blocks, they are the textures that arent done yet :tongue.gif:)
Don't forget to add the textures to the Steam-Craft forum!
Anyway, really loving what you've done here. Trying to decide what texture (if any) to replace the grass, dirt, sand, and gravel with. Only problem is that we may need some new biome triangles for those going with metal leaves and grass *le gasp*.
And I was just starting to think of myself as a good artist. = (
Glimmar, you literally made my jaw drop (and stay dropped!), those textures are incredible! There's so many too! I gotta say, you are hands down the best pixel artist in Minecraft!
You said it Croco15
Three cheers for Glimmar
You are a good artist, Croco15! Thanks for that encouraging comment, though I certainly don't see myself as being anything special, I just enjoy hoarding things, especially colourful little squares...it seems a particularly Victorian thing to do! :smile.gif:
Pipehead, I really hope you can do something with a few of these textures and will count it worth the effort to get you out of your creative doldrums. The amount of time I put into making these and other things like the biome work, means I don't get very much time to try things out, so I'm really looking forward to anything you or anyone else comes up with by way of screen shots. I can put the best ones up at the top with the the alternate textures as examples.
kSheep has also reminded me that I need to put the textures up on SteamCraft! I've been so short of time I've not been keeeping up with things over there. SteamCraft Forum Don't forget you can post pics in my thread there too. :smile.gif:
Seriously thanks, guys! I thought some of the textures might be useful, but it's very encouraging to get the reaction I see above. :smile.gif:
I kind of rushed towards the end last night, so you may find some things in there that don't tile very well, but it was like nearly 2.30 am by the time I managed to finish that second sheet and I was seriously flagging by then!
I had only planned to do one full sheet, which seemed a bit of an uphill struggle at the start, though enjoyable. However, like a lot of things, once you get started on a few ideas, they kind of snowball and the middle of last week I'd overspilled onto a second sheet and thought perhaps it was just possible to fill that one too. I hadn't done any of the cloth, tile, plant and funghi textures I'd wanted to do at that stage, so thought it was do-able.
I'm sure you've noticed lots of those textures are recoloured clones, but when your dealing with metal objects, you quickly want to see a version in rust, brass, steel, etc. so a bit of an easy way to fill things up, but hope you don't think I've cheated too much. :sad.gif:
I did already have a few things that were kind of rejects I'd stockpiled over the weeks, that I thought with a little spit and polish could be useful, but the majority of those little squares were done over the past 7 days.
I was kind of thinking in terms of needing more textures for any upcoming mods such as vehicles, but in particular Notch's wolf/dog, so there are a lot of simple textures there that could be embelished with a few more details. Also I've been aware that a few of you might like the idea of making an almost totally metal world, ala the old 'Total Annihilation' game I used to love so much, and as I love doing metal textures, I've still got lots of things to try out in that direction. Doing things like armour, mobs and gui's isn't as pleasurable for me as making little jewel like terrain squares, so I apologise unreservedly for my neglect in those areas.
Thanks for the encouragement, folks, I appreciate those comments above. Not sure I deserve them, the only thing that stands out perhaps, is quantity, and that's only down to my dysfunctional need to horde stuff! Gestankfaust is probably near to the truth with his allusion to Gollum and his Precioussss, infact there's not that big a jump between our names really...Gollum/Glimmar...might be related...don't like raw fish though! Lol! :biggrin.gif:
Two more sheets coming next week! [only joking]
well if you like shiny things and strangling people you dont like and have an overwhelming obsession I think Gestankfaust is right you might just be gollum. But does that make Gestankfaust a hobbitt? Also holy crap on the textures no one expected that sheer magnitude.

Lol! :biggrin.gif: You'd have to check Gestank's feet to confirm that hypothesis. :biggrin.gif:

Well...they are short, wide, and have hair onnum. But I think more like Fred Flintstones than The Bagginzezzzssss
*Edit - Glimmar...do you realize how long I hafta go through those two sheets to see what the ALL look like in PipWorld?

Oh man! I've been following this texture pack since...hmmm maybe page 30? And I have to say I have not yet found a mod better! Thank you Glimmar, for making my steampunk needs possible!

OF COURSE IT NEEDS AN HD PATCHER! :sad.gif: it's good, but not good enough to force me to learn use the hd patcher
HD patcher isn't hard! Just download it and it has instructions right in the exe! Just select 32x32, and select the options on the bottom you want. Also watch the color and italics, some people are bothered by it!
Woops, I just replied to something that was already replied to. Page 141 really blended in, my bad! Anyways, I will be releasing a new pack soon Glimmar! Do you have any tips on making flowers, wildgrass, and wheat? Cause I'm horrible when it comes to those blocks!

Sorry about that! That's going to be frustrating, especially if most of 'em turn out to be duds.
Lol! So when Gollum was searching for his 'preciousss' in that dark cave in the Misty Mountains, he was really shouting, "Flinstonezzzzsss!", not " "Bagginzezzzsss!"
By the way Glimmar, now that you have all these textures, have you thought about doing a painterly pack style website? Where you build your pack? You'll probably triple the amount of people using all these awesome alt textures.
It would be nice for folk to have something like this, but I'm no coder I'm afraid. I also tremble at idea of the additional work involved in maintaining it. I believe there are a few programmes out there that allow you to load up one terrain.png and swap textures with it from another. I don't have any links I'm afraid, nor do I know what resolutions they'd cover or if indeed they work!

I'm okay, but holy ****, that's awsome!
Despite my own trancelike state, that made me laugh out loud! Thanks, mate! :smile.gif:

LOL the day i saw this i laughed my ass off, becuase the day i saw this texturepack i interviewed Richard Harland and he practically invented steampunk :smile.gif:
I'd heard of Richard Harland, but haven't read anything by him, so I checked out his website and he is a pretty amazing guy! I shall have to look into his stuff sometime. I did like his definition of 'Steampunk' though...pretty near perfect in my view. I seriously haven't looked at his site or his writings but he also seems to use the word 'Victoriana' in the same sentence with Steampunk and that was another possible title for this texture pack, back last year arrived at totally independantly. Tickled pink by that! :smile.gif:
Love these textures!
Just curious, is there a "colorscheme.txt" file available for Dynamic map v0.14? I would love if my dynamic map matched the Steampunk textures. Current schemes https://github.com/FrozenCow/dynmap/wiki/Color-Schemes
Thanks in advance.
Oh, wow! I took my leave to complete the alpha of my terrain.png (just finished, now I just need to tweak and do everything else), and when I return... I can say, that's quite the collection of alternates, and all well crafted as well. Very nice work Glimmar, and I apologize for my lack of items lately. I should be on more often though, and I plan on some new content as well. Very, very nice work, and I thank you for all you've done.
I know understand why it seemed as though you were kind of making a big deal about your
alternate textures, but over 400???? You sir are just simply, and undoubtedly utterly amazing.
I do not even know where to begin, my eyes are entirely awe struck at your capability.
Thank you so much for all your hard work, if it wasn't for you I would have already forgotten
about Minecraft.... I know, I know, blasphemy... I just have a short attention span when it
comes to video games.
I've achieved something then if I've kept you interest going in Minecraft. I bet Notch dosn't have that in his new achievements system! Lol! Thanks though, Pjpuas. :smile.gif:

Glimmar, doing 2 pages of Alternate Textures is a feat, even for quick texturers, and ESPECIALLY harder with the amount of quality put in these alternate textures.
Haha! You'll see the flaws in them soon! At the very least if they inspire some new mega building projects like yours Reaper, then they're worth something! :smile.gif:

Never had that many shiny's before! :smile.gif: Thanks, Pikmin24.

It's unfortunately you are unwilling to unlock the true potential of Minecraft by refusing to use the ultra simple HD patcher?
Truly your loss.
