Lol! Back to the drawing board then! :biggrin.gif: I need to do some layering of these two biomes to check for areas where the foliage is too similar to the grass in colour. I knew there'd be something despite testing it for days. As I say i travelled vast areas in the airship and didn't see anything like that. At least it shows what variety can take place. Either that or you're pulling my leg again, but I doubt it!
I could go down the safe route and use more traditional colours, but I really want to get as much variety as possible...but not too weird. As I say, back to the drawing board, but it will have to be tomorrow now! :biggrin.gif:
Hope the power loss didn't do anything serious to the comp. :sad.gif:
Just so you have more to go with, I'll get some screens and post them. The one thing I noticed was how it was identical in shape and size for the two biome files. Like an putter force stuck a desaturated spot of around 20 blocks for the trees and grass.
All in all, it looks good though. Got the varied colors you'd come to like in the old version, but less "blotchy" and drastic in small areas. Except for the gray parts. This was seen, for me, only in a newly generated island environment also.

New texture I did...that I dunno what to do with. Kinda looks like a furnace. Did it in 32x32, but gonna try and add it to the 16x version of Glimmarfaust

I love this texture pack! But I also love the book mod.
sooooo
I made rough textures for it to fit with this pack.
I take no credit, both bookcase and the book are Glimmars work I just modified them for use with book mod, hope you don't mind Glimmar.
Just rename them appropriately and place them in the modBooks folder
names are book1 book2 book3 - shelf1 shelf2 shelf3
This is one epic texture pack Glimmar, keep it coming! :biggrin.gif:
Just wondering, which books mod are you referring to? Would you mind including a link? Thanks!
For those of you looking for armor, might I suggest looking into the leather flight suit that theWOODman made for the planes mod. You can find it here. I think it fits fairly well, both as a aeronaut suit as well as an all-round protective suit-and-goggles. The only thing I'd suggest is changing/removing the logo on the back, to give it a more all-purpose feel.
My city started feeling a little too deserted. So I started working on my first WIP mod... LoveCraft... featuring strangly enough, David Tenant... The Doctor Vs. Cthulhu? Only in Innsmouth my friends.
Right now, its just a tutorial I followed but instead of making a mad cow, I copied the Zombie classes, renamed them, relinked them, and made them spawn like passive animals. I checked the credits file for the extra skins but didnt see a author for Tenant. I just realize it was him when I started writing this. :smile.gif:
Final version will use my own artwork... I am starting to really not like Gimp though. Hopefully in the next month I'll transition to working from home, and will have access around the clock to photoshop/illustrator.
Thanks for all the observations about the new biome colours, folks. I accept that there's still ways to go with these hugely powerful magical triangles...some are finding nice areas and some have found things that make you go yuk!.
Actually, a bit like photography, you think you've got a good pic, but you never know what you're actually going to get. So I will turn the thread heading into 'Biome Colour Experiments' and for those of you who don't mind dropping my experiments into your minecraft.jar file...well between you and me we might get to something that is both varied, nice to look at, but without any abrupt changes or alien/weird combinations. I'm still puzzled by any finds of harsh changes though. Can't really explain that! All I can say is, make sure you drop the two biome files directly into the minecraft.jar, not the texture pack.
Any ideas of paths I had are out the window, because you can't have anything like a random path without abrupt changes of colour. However, some good things have come out of this...like the pink blossom trees...which are worth pursuing and the need to properly cross-correlate the two triangles to make sure you don't get obvious areas where the tree foliage colour matches the grass colour, especially where a non-green hue is chosen. It's inevitably time consuming because it's necessary to constantly drop into Minecraft and travel around, but God Bless pchan3 for making it a lot easier and fun with the airship!
I accept that there's still ways to go with these hugely powerful magical triangles...
I'm sorry, but Magical Triangles deserves a response.
Keep up the fantastic work, but more importantly: keep sane! No one will begrudge you on making something "good enough" for once, instead of "jaw-droppingly amazing"!

Henceforth I'm taking a 'hip' approach to these biome triangles. They are definately imbued with the magic of Notch, but controlling his great forces is another matter entirely. I think I just need to sit cross-legged and get into the right mood to come up with Minecraft 'Nirvana'! ............
I came across one of those "grey" areas when exploring, to be completely honest i loved it, it worked quite well with its surroundings. I continued to fly around and then BAM! i found another, it also looked quite good. I guess it might just be the area you guys were finding the "grey" areas that were making it look weird.
When using the Xtreme Art, how does one put up a painting of the big clock? I'm still pretty new to minecraft, are the paintings always random?
Hi, mate.
To truly get the most out of the Xtreme Art, assuming you've installed the mod in it's most up-to-date incarnation, you need to use it alongside another mod called 'Punch-a-Pic' which, after placing a painting, allows you to 'hit' it and instantly change it to the next painting in line. After a while it becomes second nature getting to the painting you want. :smile.gif: There is a placement tutorial in the 'Xtreme Art/More Paintings' thread which explains how much space and where best to place a painting to get some of the larger pictures like the clock. To be honest I just experimented on a wall for a bit and you quickly learn the logic behind how things are placed.
Links to both mods and their threads are in my OP on page 1, a few paragraphs below the Xtreme Art pic.

I think there will always be a random element in the biomes that will be impossible to make perfect all the time, especially when trying to add a bit more variety, but I think there's still scope for improvement, especially in those areas of alien grass/foliage combinations. However, like you've found Xytherea, I kind of like some oddities to exist, as it helps make certain areas more uniquely memorable, just not one's with jaggy edges, Lol!
Given time and patience, it's good fun really, hunting down the pros and cons of any edits in the airship and it feels more like painting than pixel texturing somehow! Anyway, I'm learning new stuff as I go, which shows what depth there is to Minecraft. :smile.gif:

BTW, the new foliage rocks.
That looks amazing, mate. I love Doctor Who. I'm old enough to remember watching episodes back in the 1970's as a kid here in the UK and repeats of the 1960's series. Yep, I'm practically old enough to be a 'Time Lord'!
Love what else you're doing too! Is it not kind of scary having lots of strange people wandering around? Also how far have you got with all the new content and the GLSL Shaders (Depth-of-Field and More) mod. It still looks in evidence in your pic.
Just wondering, which books mod are you referring to? Would you mind including a link? Thanks!
Whoops, thought i did add it
I edited my previous post with the link to the book mod.
Just thought id share them with others that might be using this texture pack and that mod.
Many thanks, Ominus.
I don't mind at all, by the way, I just haven't got the time to cover all the mods I like, let alone the mods others like too. Incidentally, CubicMeter, a long while ago gave me some textures for the Book mod and the beginnings of work on a Glimmar Variation of the FancyPack (unfinished, sadly), I will dig his Book mod out and perhaps include both yours and his in the 'extras' folder in my pack for the next update. Would that be ok? :smile.gif:

Here is what it looks like...
An easy fix is to simply blur the hell out of the image in photoshop or another program. Here is what it looks like with alot of blur...
