I don't want to use pics of texture packs commercially without permission from the guy who made the textures. Screenshots of the vanilla game is easier to motivate.
But if you (or anyone else) made a texture pack and are fine with me using it, post a pic, then let me know that using that screenshot is fine. =)
I'm not sure what this is about? Is Notch asking someone (who has submitted a pic of their work) to get permission from the texture pack artist whose textures he's used in his creation?
After giving us such an awesome game (though I did pay for my Alpha version!) Notch is more than welcome to use my textures for advertising purposes. It would be great if some credit was given with regard to who the texture pack artist is, as sometimes this is not always mentioned when folks show their creations elsewhere. The fact that Notch seems to be asking for permission, shows that he respects the work of others, as I always assumed he did. :smile.gif:

Just thought I'd stop in to announce a final "HOORAH" for the Stankepack.
:biggrin.gif:
I will now finish the GlimmarFaust 16x pack and...another more tentacled project. As well as contribute here with one less thing on my mind...
HOORAH, for the Stankepack from me also! Another HOORAH for your work on the GlimmarFaust pack too and final HOORAH for their creator Gestankfaust!
I look forward with fear and trepidation for the release of the 'Ancient One'!

Jesus... I take a spring break and look at what I miss! Personal minecarts, airships, and Glimmar working his fingers to the bone! We all appreciate the huge amounts of work you do for all us squabbling forumers, Glimm.
Wouldn't mind a cart of my own though...
Thanks, mate! I sent you a PM. :smile.gif:

Glimmar, your tecture pack will always be the I found :biggrin.gif:
That's quite poetic really! Thank you, redalpha. The pack still has a long way to go yet, but glad you're liking it so far. :smile.gif:
No, But really, just a few things i thought i would share.
I was tired of looking at the uhh chainsaw thingo :tongue.gif: and the pickaxe drill thing so i edited some of the others to my liking, so i shall share them, also ive been using one of the alternate textures of cobble so i edited it a little to make it look nice when placed next to mossy cobble! :biggrin.gif: ALSO! i couldnt be bothered quoting it, some one asked if with the "grass fixes" could make the grass go all the way down the side of the block? it can! you just need the side texture of the grass to be transparent (im using mod loader v4 to get my grass fix by the way :biggrin.gif:).
Rename to 'grasscolor' and place directly in your 'misc' folder in the 'minecraft.jar' file.
Rename to 'foliagecolor' and place directly in your 'misc' folder in the 'minecraft.jar' file.
It is necessary to place these directly into your 'minecraft.jar' file or the changes will not be recognised...that was my experience anyway! If you wish to swap them over by placing them into my texture pack, it will be necessary to re-install Minecraft, then Glimmar's Steampunk (with the new biome files), followed by xau's MC patcher. So dropping them directly into the 'minecraft.jar' file is a lot easier.
When I have enough new things to include in my texture pack, I will release an updated version. I'm not sure that new biome colours warrants the hassle of re-installing from scratch, but if there is sufficient demand from folks who are not overly familiar with dropping things directly into the 'minecraft.jar', I'll package something up sooner. :smile.gif:
As mentioned previously in the thread. If you use the 'WildGrass' mod, you may wish to keep my original biome 'grasscolor.png' file as it gives much more dramatic (and in my view, realistic looking) clumps of exotic grasses.
I travelled my world extensively, looking at the grass and foliage, but there's always going to be areas I haven't been able to cover, so if there's anything that looks too weird, let me know. Just bear in mind there are supposed to be areas of ochre/brown/dark grey grass - these represent specific areas according to the biome reference triangle Notch himself created:
Hence why my grass is purposefully texturally low-key for heather, mud, worn, dead, course, stoney (scree), frozen, etc. areas that add variety to any landscape.
Foliage has some surprises too, but not as extreme as before, although some trees are supposed to look slightly pink to give the impression of blossom...see first pic above.
Please remember that the theme of the pack is supposed to lean towards the dark side of an industrialised world...not a pretty 'medieval' one. If you are unfortunate enough to have landed or already built in an area of dead looking grass it's not 'my' fault. There are pleasant and barren areas in any world and if there is going to be variety, you have to take the good with the bad I'm afraid! :smile.gif:
When I've more time, I'll see about making a totally toned down set of biome colours. :smile.gif:
I'm also thinking about brightening up the light levels of the textures in general for those that don't like the dark at night!
hey glimmar, any hints on what any of those alt textures might be? and also, i always liked your biome colours just fine, although the pinkish colour on the pics you just posted looks really cool :smile.gif: good work
hey glimmar, any hints on what any of those alt textures might be?
Alternative plated and rivetted metals for example. Just a few more days to fill up an entire 16x16 grid of 32x32 textures. Some old alternatives and many new textures to swap around with cloth, etc.
I really should be completing the 'items', but terrain texture work is 'work avoidance' tactics for me! Lol!

Those look amazing.
Thanks, User, if you're referring to the biome colours, they'll always need more attention (larger blossom areas, for example, I'm thinking now!), but it's possible to tinker for ever with things like this!
There shouldn't be any areas of blocky, bright colours anymore, which were ok for the Wild Grass mod, but not flat grass. :smile.gif:

damn Glimmar, you must have been busy with the alt textures, i cant wait to see them.
Normal 'amber' and Glimmar's Steampunk 'green' glowing furnace versions.
Not only armed with front and rear cannons, but now with added sand bags and 'open floor area' for more accurate landing and spotting purposes!
If pchan3 adds a 'bombing' function then the sandbags can easily be replaced with appropriate 'hardware' and the see through bottom would allow for acurate sighting. Perhaps a purpose made targetting scope could be 'skinned in' including a crosshair! :smile.gif:
Rename to 'airship' then follow pchan's instructions for installation.
NO! i cant enjoy the beautiful texture pack because my game is lagging like crazy, i only have one tab in chrome open and then minecraft, and its causing my cpu to run at 100% and now chrome is even lagging for me, anyone know a fix to this problem? i have only had it recently and i have no clue whats causing this thing to run so slow

Do you reckon anything else could be running in the background that you're unaware of? Could be time to re-install windows if you can't locate the problem. :sad.gif:
Sorry you're having problems, mate! Hope you manage to get it sorted soon. :smile.gif:
Yeah Bone. You might just be bogged down with crap and when Chrome is open, will take up your resources.
Clean it deeply first with CCleener, Cleanup, Kleenex, Spybot, Ad-Aware, Warewolf, UnderWare, Regcleaner, Comodo, Frodo....all before you reinstall windows.
@Glimm - G'morning from Oregon sir! Thanks for the diamonds and tuff. Couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic what with all the enthusiasm aimed at lil' O' me

i restarted my computer, closed out everything, opened minecraft and set the priority on high for it, somewhat of a fix, i suppose 9 fps is better then 1
Setting priority is like being first in the emergency room. You might be first (MC may have priority), but the wait is still long (still have a bogged down system).
Seriously...did you try to clean it of all the cache and temp files, spyware?

Definately not being sarcastic, mate. Greetings also from the Northwest of England:)
I'm appreciating you're work on the 16x16 GlimmarFaust pack and very glad you've got StankePack to a point you can concentrate on other things, 'cos I know what it's like to have things hanging over one's head! :sad.gif: And most definately looking forward to the tentacled secret project (just checking I spelt that right! ).
No...like cussin', I don't do sarcasm very well, unless it's with my kids! :biggrin.gif: Speaking of extremes of language, watched the excellent Clint Eastwood movie last night with the family...'Gran Torino'. Hilarious and moving in equal measure. Highly recommended.

Have you tried lowering the settings on Minecraft? Set it to "Fast" graphics and a shorter render distance, that usually helps.
*Looks up at me post to Bonehead and wonders how many caught the fake "cleaner and spyware" programs*
:biggrin.gif:
I've got them all up and running at the moment. Don't tell me now some of 'em are fake! WareWolf is particularly effective at night, getting really fast once a month, but I was wondering why they only offer a bronze and gold service package and no silver?
