It should be, shouldn't it. I've always been happy with Notch's portal, but it would be nice if someone could show me how to make it glowing green rather than purple, but I'm happy with the contrast! :smile.gif:
I've no experience with animation, so it would be a considerable investment of time for me to add moving cogs, etc, when I'm already stretched pretty thin! To keep my interest I have to work on things that enthuse me and at this moment in time it's pchan3's Steampunk vehicles and finishing my 'item' icons off. After that, I may shift my attention to the gui icons and armour, but being the 'arty' type I'm not very methodical, so leap all over the place (only metaphorically! ). Also add Notch, this thread, a family and work into the equation and I've only so much time. :sad.gif:

What is the bed exactly supposed to be? The time machine idea?
Lay on it...activate it...travel into the future! Current Steampunk tech means you reappear when the sun rises.
Our alchemical scientists are looking into the 'sunrise' phenomenon to time travel and at present consider it is something to do with the gravitational force of the sun acting on the 'calculating engine's' gears deep within the bed.
On a lighter note, most of what I do for Glimmar's Steampunk is based upon the idea that 'why have just one purpose for an item, block, etc. when it could potentially have many uses (albeit purely decorative). Hence the craftbench can be both a craft bench, a scanner, a control terminal, a floor tile, etc. Likewise, the bed, can be a bed, a time machine, a floor grate, a torture table for dark megalomaniacs, a submarine torpedo launching platform, some other esoteric Steampunk machine, etc, infact whatever your imagination wants it to be!
Now If it just looked like a bed, I'd only really be able to use it 'as' a bed...or it would look pretty weird, stuck on the outside of a dirigible as an 'atitude control' engine! :biggrin.gif:
Like the rest of the limited building blocks Notch has blessed us with, that we all attempt to use in ever imaginative ways, I'm trying to make the most out of every item, within reason! And don't forget...this is 'Steampunk' ...things will be made with that theme in mind, so they're bound to be wacky and weird with lots of bits and pieces tacked on! It's up to you and your imagination to put it to good use!
Sorry it turned into a bit of a lecture, but no doubt on the next page someone else will ask the same question and I can save myself the time by directing them here! :smile.gif:
Do you plan to make a HD version of this pack?
Would be great.
I often get asked this. :smile.gif:
No, not at present.
I have nothing against higher resolutions, but having committed now to 32x32, I simply don't have any spare time to develop it in a higher resolution. As you can see, there are still many things incomplete about this pack and I struggle to keep up with all of Notch's updates.
To be honest I prefer the constraints of 32x32 and still like to 'hand-draw' mostly everything. Enough pixels to convey an idea, but not so many that the temptation to cut and paste textures takes over! :smile.gif:
For my own builds, I do prefer 32x32 pixels though, as seen from a distance. :smile.gif:
@Glimmar Could you make a green alt texture for the glowstone? You don't have to put it into the texture.png, I can shoop it in myself, but green would suit my world much better.

That's a really good idea, mate! :smile.gif: I'll add it to the list. In the meantime, check in the OP on my 'alternative textures' .png file. On there are some variants there already for the glowstone, one of which is green, but a different design...it's down at the bottom...a cluster of 10 different designs. Have a look at that first. :smile.gif:

Why thank you
Your welcome! Variations on the Nether glowstone could be infinite really. The sort of thing I like doing to relax as it's one of those blocks which doesn't necessarily have to tile well and has many useful applications.
Is there any chance you could provide a slightly less textured grass-texture? Some biomes end up looking terrible, as evident from the following screenshots:
Other biomes, however, look more beautiful than ever, and I'd only hope for the rest of the biomes to be similar:
Thank you very much for your work. I love your pack

Glimmar stated that he was going to look into the grass colors again shortly, revamping them to make it a bit more cohesive. Just give him a bit of time to finish up on his current projects (items and revamped minecarts, I believe), and he'll probably work on this.
The Leather Armor texture was made by someone else, I believe. If you want different looking armor, I suggest you make it yourself, or wait until Glimmar is finished with other priorities.
I've been a long follower of this pack, and absolutely love it. I do agree that the biome colors are a little awkward in places, so I went ahead and did a quick and dirty fix. I simply dropped the .png's in gimp and blurred them so you get a more gradual shift in colors.
rename as grasscolor.png
rename as foliagecolor.png
Then place in the misc folder in the texture pack.

Im sure glimnar is working on other stuff, i just feel the armors are bland compared to something else.

Glad you like the pack, Striata, and yes I will be working on biomes again sometime, because the one's I did had the WildGrass mod in mind that many wanted to use, seen here:
I'm certain now that Notch has changed the way in which the biome colours are rendered. Whether to do with his own coding, or a different version of MrMessiah's BetterLight mod that he is now using, the colours have become richer than they were before...hence the bright red, rather than the rusty brown it was before. So not really my fault, I cry! :sad.gif: This is similar to the redstone dust issue in that a lot of us texture artists are being blamed, when it is really Notch who is shifting the goal posts all the time, making it very difficult to keep up. Don't get me wrong, Notch is entitled to do what he wants with his game, for which he gets paid handsomely. Unlike some of us!
This is what the grasscolor.png biome colour looked like before the beta 1.3 update:
However, in my defense I do have to disagree that other biomes look more beautiful. I've always thought the biomes with very little contrast are fairly unnatural...as if overcoated with artificial turf. I walk a lot in the hills and have overlooked many natural and urban landscapes in my part of the world and they don't look like the pic you use as an example of a beautiful 'natural' biome.
Here's a few aerial photographs to illustrate my point:
You also have to bear in mind that the theme of this pack being Steampunk, means I'm looking for an industrial or heather filled look to certain areas of the landscape and a bit more variety that I can build around, adding plants, placing trees to make it look as natural as possible. I'm certainly not going for the perfect 'golf course' look. :smile.gif:
Looking at the pic you have of your builds with all the sandstone, I would have said that looks much more realistic and believable than many a build I've seen recently, because the landscape looks worn and varied, as one would expect to see round a major building site...waste, exposed soil, heather, etc. Your build, in my opinion, looks much more interesting and 'alive' as a result.
So although I will be experimenting with the biome colours again, don't expect 'safe' all green colours everywhere...I don't want to disappoint you, but what I do is primarily for my own worlds and if there's time, who knows, I may produce something a little safer as an alternative for those who like that sort of thing, but no promises.
@ torturran: Thanks, mate, that's sorted that problem then! Lol!

How about this one? Simply adjusted the hue on Photoshop.
While I was at it, I decided to make a blue, red, and purple version as well.
Beat me to it, and saved me some time t'boot!

Yep! Just not had time to do it...same with many other things. I like to build and play too (if I didn't, I would soon lose interest in the game!) and, as those who frequent this thread often will know, I have a family, work and other interests too! :biggrin.gif:
Now back to a secret project I'm working on for pchan3 and his 'Steampunk AIrship' mod!

Curse Premiumglimmar: you should make a blue and gold colored minecart!
that would be cool.
ssaint:nice boat!
leather armor looks pretty nice
but the others are just lame....
I would like knights armor for iron
maybe a kings stly armor for gold.
and a steampowered diamond armor perhaps?

Not the prettiest fix, but it looks more natural.
Thank you!
My sad attempt at recoloring the glowstone. (I used Paint.NET's color replacement tool.)
Remember it's the alt texture .png, so it's missing some things
Also one more boat (my favorite):
