Right guys. It's 4am in the morning here in the UK! I need to go to bed, but I've done the terrain.png file here for you to test:
I've also got a temporary items.png sheet too, with Notch's graphics pasted in to help test the terrain file above:
I'll work on the items tomorrow (which is today!) when I've had a few hours kip, but I'd be grateful if you could test for any major flaws. Had to change the cobble and sandstone to make sense as half blocks. I'm sure they will probably need more work in future. I'm pleased with the diode and made the best of a bad job with the redstone wire and hope you like the time-machine bed...something I could do with in real life!! :biggrin.gif:
Thanks for your patience, but I'll try to get a complete pack together later tomorrow when some of you have had chance to play with tonight's offerings. Go easy on me folks, as I'm doing my best. :smile.gif:
Looks good! I look forward to messing around with it.
In other news, I came across a couple small errors in naming in the .ZIP file (at least with the v1.8.1 .ZIP), both in the mob folder. First, you have it as zombiepig, when it should be pigzombie, and second is the sheepfur, which should be sheep_fur. Just thought you ought to know before the next update.
So, this is my first post here, and this is the cannon tower i have made in my world. Took forever to find enough iron, but i think it was worth it.
Awesome pack Glimmar, i cant stand the look of anything else in my game now.

Wow! Nice cannon you've got there. Three questions…
1) Does it actually fire?
:cool.gif: Mind if I copy it?
III) If answer B was yes… you wouldn't happen to have the schematics lying around, would you?

Unfortunately i haven't been able to figure out a firing mechanism that doesn't destroy the cannon, but as soon as i do you'll be the first to know. Aside from that, copy as much as you want and no, i don't have any blueprints, but the design is fairly basic. the base of the tower without the iron struts is 6x6x5, beyond that, its just a couple circles on top of bigger circles with some iron to make it look sturdy. Decorate and spice to taste.
Edit: better view of the gun, the torches for sights was my girlfriend's idea

And once i get to my outer walls, these will be on the towers. This is simply too awesome.

Just another little update to show what I've been experimenting with.
Having thought about some of the suggestions you guys have been making from radioactive waste to carpet, etc. This is one of my very early, quick attempts to make something that could have many uses in the upper world. I'm sure you're thinking I'm bonkers now, but having thought about it all day I was actually getting quite frustrated in the end! I couldn't decide whether to go for 'mud', bio-luminescent organisms with tentacles, another form of metal, even radioactive crystal things!! So why not have it all! :biggrin.gif:
Nether World Slow Sand or...wait for it...Pollution/Radioactive Waste/Bio-Luminescence/Pond Weed/Carpet/Bed Covers/Topiary/Exotic Marble/Etc.
I really want to get away from the image of trapped souls, not because i don't think it's a cool image...I just think it's a bit limiting to a hell or fantasy world setting, and I want my blocks to be as versatile as possible...same old story...why have a block that you can only use aesthetically for one type of setting when you can have a material that can have multiple uses. Still want it to look kind of natural, so that it can be used as a building material too! It's not too much to ask is it?
As I say, this is an early try, so don't judge it too harshly. It's shown to give you an idea of what could be.
Some replies:
@ Retrobleck: Before Notch temporarily disabled the three faces of the iron, gold and diamond blocks (I think to fix a problem with stone steps) all three faces could be seen in game. Now only the top texture in each material is now seen on all 6 faces of the block! So If you don't like the one I've chosen, try editing one of your choice into place, using Gimp or Photoshop, etc. Or pray Notch will give us the three faces back.
In any event I'm thinking of changing those faces in the future, when I get to work on the art file of paintings...see my reply to Jonathan_Kent above.
@ GSKashmir: Glad you got them to work! So sorry about the TNT mix-up. I guess my pack should come with some safety warnings!!:sad.gif:
Retrobleck Ninja'd me over what the two diamond things in your inventory are. That's a glitch still waiting to be fixed by xau and his 'MC Patcher programme'. The compass is also smaller than it would be if you were using 16x16 textures. Compass works, but you'll have to do without the watch for now! :sad.gif:
@ CAB00SE17: Airships...moving? That would be my absolute dream for Minecraft (that and big sailing ships and large submarines...little things really! :tongue.gif:). We can but dream! :biggrin.gif: At least we can make stationary versions!
I started this lighthouse in the Painterly Pack. Then I found the Glimmar 32x pack.... It's much prettier now.
The whole lighthouse took about 4 weeks to construct.

Glim the exhausted!
Just bumping this for those of you who would like to try out all the new stuff for Beta 1.3
If you are only used to using a completed pack, then here are the instructions:
1. Copy the first image above to your desktop and call it 'terrain' (when you look at it's properties it should say 'terrain.png').
2. Do the same with the second file, but call it 'items'.
3. Open up my texture pack zip and replace the 'terrain.png' file you'll see with the 'terrain.png' file above.
4. Look for a folder called 'gui' in the same place you put the 'terrain.png' file, open this and replace the 'items.png' in there with the new 'items' file above.
This assumes you have moved up to Minecraft Beta 1.3
If you haven't, then:
1. backup your bin file (so that you can always return to beta 1.2_02) and sign in to minecraft to update to beta 1.3.
2. Exit from Minecraft and update with zau's latest 'MC Patcher' to fix HD graphical glitches.
3. Once that is successfully done you can start Minecraft as normal.
4. Update your maps to the new system (might be advisable to backup your 'saves' too!).
5. Enjoy the new stuff!
Later today, when my eye's stop going out of focus, I will finish off the 'item' icons and make a new 'Glimmar's Steampunk Texture Pack' zip.

Strik Wow that is epic.
@ Strik: that truly is epic, thanks for using the pack, and when I get time, I will pop an example of that gun up in the OP...it's a nice new departure for things users can build. I'm still waiting for folks to try their hand at some stupendous ground based vehicles, using the standard art and 'Extreme' art painting textures.
@ ksheep: Many thanks for pointing out the typos in my 1.8.1 pack. I can rectify those before uploading the new pack. Thanks for watching out, mate. I truly appreciate everyone's help on this thread!
Why must this be so good ? Parental controllprevents me from getting one of my fave texture packs, and all the mods I used :sad.gif:
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Nightmares torment me. I can no longer resist the call of the infinite. Their blows rain heavy. My wraithbone cracks. My sight in this world dims. I return to slumber. My soulstone, please take it. Save...the others
Whohee! Wouldn't that be awesome! How many steampunks would prefer to fly that way? Lol! Wish they'd consider steampunkifying it and just use alloys that look brass like! Perhaps we should send the engineers pchan3's airship design and show them how it should be done! Ha ha!

-snip awesome cannon-

Hmm... You could set it up with a dispenser, shouldn't be too hard. TNT cannons have to be built with certain restrictions in mind, and I think that trying to shoe-horn one into this work of art would be more trouble than it's worth. Still, a 5-clock redstone Diode set-up should provide ample firepower, and some cool controls if you wire it through the cockpit.

An elegant solution considering the limitations.

The whole lighthouse took about 4 weeks to construct.
It was my first large construction.
I hope you all enjoy it.
