Glimmar, I absolutely love this texture pack. Your artistic ability is incredible. Not only does this work with steampunk structures, but it also works for medieval structures, atleast, for me. I love the ores aswell, especially the iron ore!
Many thanks for the encouragement, mate! :smile.gif: Glad it has more than just a steampunk use.
Blue Balloon 'pchan3 Airship' Variation
Here's another of hopefully many more variatians to follow:
Blue Balloon pchan3 Airship variation with Glimmar skin.
@Glimmar: Do you have Glimmar's World for download anywhere? I really want to explore it.
Thanks for asking, mate, I get asked from time to time for the map, and although I've always intended to release it at some stage, at the moment it's kind of like my private retreat, and as it's the only world since June of 2010 that I've ever worked on (yes, only one world!) it's become pretty special, well to me it has! Lol! I guess when my interest in Minecraft wains I'll put it up for folks to download. :sad.gif:
I've updated by inner harbor wall, adding two large towers around the gate (now with a working portcullis). I also finished up my subway station, which is fully automated, including directing empty and powered minecarts (both incoming and outgoing) off the tracks, and directing incoming storage minecarts into a chest. Additionally, players cannot call multiple empty minecarts until one is launched. There's also a new bridge going across the channel to a friend's base. The harbor is a little empty right now, I'm planning on a ship or two once wooden half-steps are implemented, and making a much larger outer harbor (currently under construction).
I guess when my interest in Minecraft wains I'll put it up for folks to download. :sad.gif:
Then I hope to never have to see it.
Ha ha! That's a nice thing to say...making me fill up! When I do release it, and if I remember, I shall give you a copy a few hours earlier than everyone else, so you can say you were the first to walk around Glimmar's World...and probably be disappointed before everyone else too! Lol! :biggrin.gif:

Wonderful slideshow, Trigonous! Love what you did with the bridge and the station and you must be using the 'Minecart Mania' mod...I noticed the gold block under the track on the bridge! My son and I use that on our closed server on our SMP Glimmar's World and have yet to try all it's many advantages.

Awesome looking island and build!
The day you quit Minecraft will be a sad day indeed :sad.gif:
And I am using the Minecart Mania mod, which is what helped with the station automation, whithout it I wouldn't be able to detect the type of incoming cart as well and it'd just have to be all non-player carts directed off to a side track, as it is they're deposited in a chest for very easy collection.

That would make me the happiest boy in the whole world.
Good news, everyone! I plan on buying a copy of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea pretty soon. So, my inspiration may grow within the next few months/year (I'm still reading the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, so that may take a while). On another note, I also plan on buying my self a copy of Lovecraft's Necronomicon Anthology, and a top hat.

I have two top hat's myself, one brown and one black for any occasion. I highly recommend
So, I started to dabble with note blocks, I have repeating array of 12 so far and home to expand to 36 tonight, that should be enough for a song.
I need Idea's of what songs to try out that would be in-theme for this texture pack. I found a nice piano tabs website, just need some inspiration. :smile.gif:
How about the Little Fugue in G Minor by Bach?
Wow, thats awesome but a little out of my league so far.

Ooh, that's a tough one... If you consider yourself the rapacious or dastardly sort, you can't go wrong with the theme of Professor Fate from The Great Race...
Hell, that guy is pretty the direct inspiration of **** Dastardly, and a shining example for all old-school, mustache twirling villains. I'll try to come up with some more tunes, but that one stands out for me.
If you haven't seen The Great Race before, I strongly reccomend you do. It's a great 1964 comedy, and Jack Lemmon turns in a great performance as the film's card-carrying villain.
Also very cool! It is a very complex piece though; background melody, the multiple horns, drums... I have added The Great Race to my netflix queue though, and hopefully it will get here in about 3 cycles. (Next up the Last Lovecraft, then some chick flick, then my turn again :wink.gif: )

After trying to collect all of the Del Rey/Ballantine H.P. Lovecraft stories, I just broke down and bought "H.P. Lovecraft: The Fiction" for like $11.00. It was worth it as it contains every story he ever published in one volumne. I also have "I Am Providence" by Joshi. Very nice set, but more about Lovecraft then most might ever want to know :smile.gif:
And.... If you really need your Lovecraft Fix, you cant beat Chris and Chad at http://hppodcraft.com/. They are what really got be back into Lovecraft.
An update to an earlier post, I've decided to settle on Kefka's theme from Final Fantasy VI... Not really Steampunk, but the sound is somewhat eerier, melodic, and mechanical... which sums up the genre to me :smile.gif: http://ffmusic.ffshrine.org/ff6sheet/cefca.zip.. I am using TabNabber http://tabnabber.com/MidiToTabConverter.aspx to get the piano tabs of the flutes from the midi file. Then using http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Programs_and_Editors#Helpers to plan out the notes... I have NO musical talent, and have never played piano, but this project has got me interested and I am considering signing up for lessons (or bartering for them :biggrin.gif:)
Recording a preview video tonight, it will be edited in here:
Balloons now? Glimmar, your pack is becoming too elite and awesome to be made for Minecraft. You should join Notch and release a new game.
Haha! I am ever cursed to remain unknown and unsuccessful. Lol!
My son, the traitor, is currently exclusively playing with your texture pack at the moment and constantly showing me all his constructions. Most of my impressions of other texture packs come through him, as trying to keep up with new stuff for Glimmar's Steampunk saps all my spare time, so I'm very impressed by the Roman...ness of your pack, mate. He's loving it along with a 'Cooking' mod and I'm enjoying the look of it immensely!

I think I downloaded '20,000 Leagues' to my Kindle for free over the Christmas hols, but got carried away with 'Perdido Street Station' since, so I've got the anticipation and pleasure of a lot of classic sci-fi to catch up on yet. I'm also halfway through the 'Necronomicon' so can safely say you'll enjoy that! I can only stand it in small doses though as it is so rich, like a fine liqueur!
Don't forget to look up Gestankfaust's texture pack, because I think that's based on the Cthulhu mythos, and I think that's nearing completion. I've yet to look in on that, because of pchan3's airship mod graphics [really sorry, Gestankfaust. I will come over, I promise!]
@ Everyone: Railways and music and Dumbo. Awesome memories...can't wait to see what you come up with!
I asked to give you and Pipehead a nod as well...he didn't though. But it was your pack that inspired it Glimm
:biggrin.gif:
This is awesome, mate. It's the idea and what you do with the textures, rather than the art, that is important in a programme like this. You know I love it a lot!!

Damn, you've already picked a project... I was gonna recommend a classic:
http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2009/357/1/4/Casey_Junior_MIDI_by_Dogman15.mid
Not long at all, and a classic recognizable tune (That's not from a videogame :iapprove:)
Actually, after looking at those helpers, I'm gonna take a whack at this one. Now I need to figure out the wonky timing
If I ever get around to doing a train station, this is going to be buried under it :smile.gif:
