Can't bump this enough! Well done all in Pipeworld for this mega-project! You have excelled yourselves in industrious inventiveness and once again inspired all! Inspired direction too, Gestankfaust!
Have bumped to the OP. Will sort out other posts for the OP as soon as I can. :smile.gif:
Pretty epic bridges! And just curious, does anyone else sink the foundation for their structures all the way down to the rock level, or do you guys just build on top of the dirt/sand?
Awesome wall! That's the kind of thing I'm working on with my son at this very mo'. I'm a bit of a stickler for foundations too. I don't go too far down, but I like the idea of large smoothstone blocks at the base and tops of cobblestone, as you would get in real life. This helps constructions look engineeringly safe and sound! :biggrin.gif:
Lol! I can't help thinking a giant ape is going to appear over the horizon, ala 'King Kong'.
Hello Glimmar! Stee_vo here again! i have a few questions!
1. Why is the Netherrack texture blue and waterish? It has a water flow animation on it and it is blue!
2. My golden blocks has fire ''in'' them... what do i do?
3. Do i need to delete minecraft(and isntall again) and then install your Text, pack and THEN download the patcher to make water and clocks work?
Thanks for your help!
You should probably reinstall (done by deleting the bin folder only really). But you don't actually install THEN patch the texture pack. You install it BY patching it with the HD patcher.
1. Delete the bin folder
2. Run MC to reinstall (download)
3. Make sure the updated 1.8.1 pack is in the texture folder
4. Run Xau's HD patcher and have it browse to Glimmars pack, leaving all boxes that are checked...checked
4b. (optional) Run the better light/better grass mod (I only use the BL with nuttin else
5. Run MC and click on the mods texture packs button. Make sure Glimm's in the one active
6. Play fight win

After using the new update for a week or so, there's only one thing I would change. That dreaded wheel with the red bits on the end. I've tried and tried, and i cannot find a way to make it look good. Is it just me?
Glimmar you once asked me what cape i would suggest for a Steampunk Victorian gentleman. I have been sewing my litle fingers to the bone to present you with these Steampunk capes. Now that my capes have gone HD, i can add a lot more detail to them. Which is good news for Minecraft cape wearers everywhere. Feel free to do what you wish with them. You will need my cape mod to wear them. I hope you like them. Cheers! =)
I hope i put enough gears and whirilgigs on them. xD
I am continuing my Minecraft adventures with Glimmars Steampunk Spin :3
Next episode is a world exploration! I can't wait
I love your music box, and the idea of using them like lighthouses to guide a traveller on their way. These would be tremendously atmospheric if one played with fog on. A little like fog horns, you'd know from the doppler effect (is that possible in the game?) how close you were to your destination. Certainly out at sea, along with a flashing lighthouse it would be very scarey!
I really enjoyed your vid. Keep 'em coming.
If you're about to embark on a world exploration you might want to wait for one of these:
I ABSOFREAKINGLOUTLY LOVE THIS TEXTURE PACK!! i didnt even realy care for steampunk untill i got this now i love it!
Thank you kind fellow Minecraft traveller, I appreciate your comment!

It's really designed for airship use as a giant primitive propeller, loosely based on the old Wild West water tower type pumps.
The most frustrating thing is that all paintings need a solid background that covers the entire back of the painting, which means that you can't fix it to just one block that would act as the drive shaft (I'd love to be proved wrong on this!). So the red-bladed propeller has to be used in an ingenious way, set 'into' a housing with a glass or pale block background. If I had time, I'd give you an example, but I'm sure someone else will come along soon and show you how they've used it.
If paintings only needed one block for attachment it would be more ideal, but any free-standing paintings I've left in position have not survived, when I've 'saved' and returned they've disappeared. I don't know if this limitation crept in with the Beta version of the game or if it was always there, or if it's a failing of the 'Xtreme art' mod. I remember folk making hidden entrances with paintings, but whenever I've done anything like that with my paintings they weren't there when I saved and returned. Anyone have any more info on this?
In any event, the two propellers in my 'art' files are about the only ones that would look better free-standing, but then they'd look weird as soon as you walked round to the back of them, as they'd disappear leaving your airship/construction looking mighty strange! :sad.gif:
Glimmar, not to be a bother, but, if you'd mind, would you kindly add some support to Fuctional Books by Shockah?
Thanks.
Reaper, you are never a bother, mate! :smile.gif:
I'd love to support it, unfortunately like everything else, it's a question of time.
CubicMeter, offered graphics (based on my textures) for this a while back in the thread, then understandably lost interest in Minecraft when updates to Beta kept breaking the mods he was interested in. However, before he gave up, he very generously gave me a link to download the graphics he had so far worked on for both Functional Books and the Fancy Pack here: Download
I haven't had the time to do anything more with them, sadly. It would be great if someone had the motivation to continue this work and give due credit to CubicMeter. Here's an example of the early growing stages of the pumpkin plant he did based on my Pumpkin Helm:
I really liked it, as it has a really eerie quality to it and the idea of having a factory gowing these things in rows illuminated by my green gas lamps would have been so atmospheric!
At the time, Fancy Pack wasn't compatible with Wild Grass, but that might not be the case now. :smile.gif:

That is truly awesome, mate! I love it! I'm just sorry you've had to wear your fingers to the bone...get some more tea down you, lad! My apologies for not stopping by the shop recently, but thank you so much for the above. You'll have a lot of steampunkians flocking for copies of that beauty.
When I get time and incentive to re-organise the OP here, can I use it as a link to your 'Ye Olde Cape Shop'? Come to think of it I bet 'PipeWorld' citizens would be interested in something like this if it was multiplayer friendly!
-le snip-
If you guys could come up with something to support that mod, I would be extremely grateful giving you due credit in any future updates with that facility onboard. I've glanced at the thread and loved the idea of it's potential, but just had to be realistic and admit that I just wouldn't have the time to experiment myself.
Like animation, I am very much in the dark when it comes to 'Depth of Field' and Specular Lighting' etc. I understand it in principle, but feel some what 'Depth of Fieldish' myself at the moment...kind of fuzzy round the edges...with so many things to take in!
I was about to post that I was having troubles launching minecraft... then I got it working, looked back, and realized I had the .jar open in WinRAR. Stupid me.
I'm working on looking into the Normal and Specular maps now. Doing a test off a quick pair, to see how it'll look. Pictures soon!
E: Tried figuring out how to work with the specular map and I'm not sure if I can change it on the fly.... Ended up cleaning the bin directory and Minecraft is still launching all finicky.
So… another update on the Nautilus. I've been away from my computer for most of yesterday and today, so no progress on it. Once I got back, I found that the server is currently down, so I can't work on it now. Anyway, I have finished the top half, a little of the bottom half, and I've decided for the time being to not worry about the bottom too much as it's gonna be underwater. On the inside, I've got the rooms planned out, just need to furnish them. Sticking with a single floor, even though there would be room for a lower floor if I had finished the bottom half. Not sure if I'm gonna worry too much about that or just finish what I have. I'd post pics but as I said, no server at the moment. Thoughts?
I've been using it last night and today and it works a treat...with dwindling oxygen supply as a new feature too. I must admit I'm loving using the 'bukkit' system, it's the nearest thing in my limited experience to the idea of a working Minecraft mod manager and Afforess recommends my pumpkin helm, so it's even better! ;p
Do you have xtreme-pictures and punch-a-pic working with bukkit server?
I have been trying to use the bukkit server but a few things that I use on the regular server either don't have an equivalent or what they have seems to be borked. Tried MyWarp to match zMods stuff but kept dieing after making a warp point I would try to return to it and die as I was in the ground instead of the place marked.

That's looking mighty fine to me, mate! Loving the way you've used the Xtreme art inside it too, particularly the boilers, they look nice set back into the black cast iron blocks.

Ha ha! leaving the .jar file open happens to me all the time!
Many thanks for continuing to experiment with the above. I am so looking forward to seeing what the textures look like, particularly with the Specular map stuff.

I don't, mate! I'm mostly using 'bukkit' for fast building with my son, but every so often I'll save off a copy of the world to work on it in single play, for things like added detail. So far I haven't tried out any Nether forays using the Bukkit mods. For safety's sake I may still jump in and out in single play, filling up on supplies from the Nether before dropping back into Bukkit. A bit tedious, but fairly safe.
I suppose like everyone else, I'm waiting for the time when there is proper mod/multiplayer integration without all the confusion of what will and won't work! So far with my limited experience, bukkit gives a taster of what a future mod manager could be like, with the relative ease in which it allows you to drop mods in and take them out again, without having to re-install Minecraft to refresh all the class files!

I may have finished first, but that does not mean it is the best by far. I cannot wait to see the others!
13 pics is too many for one post, so I'll just post the link to the album: http://s1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd429/ssaint13/Nautilus%20Complete/
Happy adventuring!
