In other news, it appears that today is Thomas Edison's 164th birthday. Google has a doodle for him (although not an interactive one like Verne's). Anyone planing any steampunk creations in honor of him, or are you gonna wait till Tesla rolls around again in July?
Aw! You beat me to this! :biggrin.gif: I think we should rename this week 'Steampunk Forefathers Week'!

Haha, currently the server I'm running for me and my roommates has the Netherportal, Minecart Mania (just the base mod), Controller Block (what steampunk world is incomplete without an epic passage in the library?), Extended Day, LoginMessage, and PvP control. I also used Biome Terrain Mod to generate it. Currently Wild Grass is unsupported for Bukkit, but I'm hopin' it'll get released soon.
Well, so far I've managed to install a plugin called 'Gastronomic', just to make life even more difficult, basically a hunger and thirst mod that works quite well. Amazed at how easy it was to install!
Ah! Alternative cobblestone. I really need to look at more cobblestone for this pack. That alternative of mine looks really atmospheric there. Nice build!

Can I ask how you've made these , looked at the sandy textured one and cant work it out , blocks are overlapping blocks , looks like half blocks would have to be used . How is that done , cheers :smile.gif:
Nodders
I think the blocks you're referring to are Gestankfaust's sandstone block texture, which is one even sided block but the top, side and bottom of the texture are different (three separate textures) and most texture pack artists represent them with a slab at the top, block sides and a flat textured bottom.

Mine might not be as slick in design as the others, but I have my own secret weapons...
Also, how can the one with the video call that the Nautilus? It's barely furnished!
Yeh! It is pretty basic in the vid, but it's a working Nautilus for 'Silent Hunter' If I'm correct, and about the only thing apart from brief clips from the film that shows some kind of interior. I bet you're sitting on exact plans of the interior, Triskelli and holding them until the end of the competition! Lol! :biggrin.gif:
I'm intrigued by your Nautilus and secret weapons though!
@ Gestankfaust: Don't forget the second tile across in the group of textures for water and lava can be different from the rest, to represent a flowing version of water and lava. However, with much experimentation myself I've come to the conclusion that if you represent 'flowing' water with something akin to 'streaky' lines (as in a real waterfall) it has the annoying effect of showing up all the angles the water is moving in. It's acceptable in the case of water that moves vertically straight down, but when flowing down a slope it looks horrid with water moving in all directions. That's why I stick with just the haphazard swirly pattern which tricks the eye into thinking the water is 'gloopily' bubbling along.
Lava, I've yet to experiment with, but that should be fun. It's amazing how much time can be spent on these two liquid textures to reach an acceptable level of realism. I'll be interested to see what you come up with, lava-wise, mate.
I guess the thing for me is that unless these two liquids can be animated randomly over a large area and thus look convincing, I'd rather stay with a murky motionless liquid, as I find it less distracting and more convincing when looking at wide angle views of epic builds. I or someone else will prove me wrong one of these days, but I've yet to see moving waves in Minecraft from any of the gorgeous texture packs out there that I could live with. Fine in a small area, but not when looking out to sea...animated repetitive 'tiling' takes over at that level.
I'm assuming the portal animation is a long strip of individual frames, like the water and lava strips. I think this has more potential because it's more confined, but I need some tutorial or other before tackling any of these projects.

After about anhour of work: And so the race has begun.
Nice and big then! You guys are all great fun! Can I set some other projects after this?
Speaking of projects...here's my new minecart 'item' graphics as a little weekend pressy (you'll find an updated 'items' sheet as mentioned previously in the OP on page 1) and I will dedicate them to Thomas Edison as it's his birthday today:
I've included the copper buckets to remind you that these were included earlier, in case anyone missed them.
I apologise to all those who are waiting for me to revamp the top of the thread with alternative items, textures, etc. I can only do so much at the moment, sorry. :sad.gif:
Here's three that I've come up with after many days of trial and (mostly) error that all seem to work well. I also don't mess with that "second block" in water/lava for the same reasons...
The deep red one was used as the eyes of Cthul :biggrin.gif:
I seem to be a "Tinkerer" by nature I guess. I come up with more stuff by accident than on purpose...
More on the portal as I "Tinker". I really wanna see the cogs and gears move...would so rule! Even gave me an idea about chunks of raw material or metal bits floating in the lava.

"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to...."
While our server was down today (the admin is heading home for the weekend), I decided to try my hand at making some items. My result: an iron and gold "bar".
EDIT: looking at the bars again, it occures to me that I should try to A) try to round the cogs on the right side, and :cool.gif: try to give them more dimension. Then again, I haven't tested it yet, so it may be fine as is.
Figured I give you a peek at what I'm doing. Albeit, it's only one pic, but I'd rather be finished when I show it.
BEHOLD!
It seems Her Majesty's forces have decided to set up a base within this realm. Let's see those Creepers and Archer Skeletons take on this fortification!
Unfortunately, due to the fact that the power was out in my dorm and the host computer was turned off due to travel, I wasn't able to make much headway on the Nautilus today. I was able to get on for a short while, but didn't get all that much done (extended it out to the full length, added the rudder, added the observation windows). No picture today as it doesn't look all that different (most of what was worked on was either inside or still underground). Maybe I'll get some more done tomorrow.
So I was looking into learning how to mod today, and as I was looking through the files I came up with a simple mod that just removes the text from the inventory/chest/etc guis. It's pretty simple, so if I just missed somebody's version earlier in the thread just let me know. xD

That was my favourite bit in your Cthulhu movie, looking at the glowing eyes with that soundtrack. I hope you've got ambitions of making a cool Minecraft Steampunk or Cthulhu 'story' movie some time, you would produce something amazing I'm sure. Dramatic music, your great mood visuals, but interspersed with silent movie style dialogue cards, and actors from PipeWorld!
I think I like the first lava best of the three. Lava and water is like stone and cobble...really essential textures that you can lose yourself in trying to get just right, and then more by accident than design a texture comes along that just 'works'!

Those cog items are a great idea. They will make a nice alternative and I will add them to the collection for the OP at the top.
@ captainlepper: Great work on the fortifications. I look forward to development! [see pic above]
I've been using it last night and today and it works a treat...with dwindling oxygen supply as a new feature too. I must admit I'm loving using the 'bukkit' system, it's the nearest thing in my limited experience to the idea of a working Minecraft mod manager and Afforess recommends my pumpkin helm, so it's even better! ;p

I've completed the Nautilus' shell. Now all that is left is decoration and furnishing.
(I'll edit with pics later; I'm late for kickboxing.)
Sounds good. Of course, I guess that this means I won't finish first, but as long as I finish I'll be happy. Too many other things going on this weekend.
Anyway, I've managed to finish the rudder and propeller, and I'm now working my way forward. I ran into a slight snag, however. As I was digging out the sand around it, a fair sized section of sand collapsed into a fair sized cavern filled with lava. Currently working on moving the lava to a safer location.
Just a quick question concerning mods, (specifically Wild grass and more paintings) after i use the patcher for this texture pack, it creates a new minecraft.jar( minecraft-1.2_02). The only real difference seems to be that the old one no longer has the META-INF folder while the new one does.
Point being, when i install mods into either .jar, there is no apparent change (also, the patcher isnt working for wild grass).
I'm running on vista 64, if it helps...
EDIT; the error im getting with wildgrass is UnZip Failed:../bin/minecraft.jar (the system cannot find the path specified) and the more paintings either does nothing or zooms in enormous amounts depending on the version / EDIT
Whatever you're working on, you are all doing very well. I love seeing what you guys come up with! Makes all my hard work a pleasure and well worth the effort. Lots of these for you all!

@everyone I will be making armour soon, but beware, it's my first skin, so it'll probably be horrid. I'm finishing the Nautilus first though.
EDIT: P.S., you can keep up with my building of the Nautilus here: http://s1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd429/ssaint13/Nautilus/
