I'm just uploading to MediaFire soon. Just finishing the blurb and uploading a pic of the terrain.png. Other pics, alternative terrain textures and items will have to come later at the top. Oh flip! I've just remembered I've got to post everything in the OP at the top too!
Gestankfaust, you caught me just in time with that update to the skins, so it's just gone in!
Updated the skins and mobs pack....added St1muL's skins (lemme know if you want them omitted) and got the mobs folder defaulted to work with certain variations of each mob. Just change to the alts if you want.
Also, here's the items.png I have worked out with all the user submissions that I accumulated and tested (various contributors with the nice work by Vondell AND Glimmartadded):
Only thing on the compass...it seems to stretch it right to left a bit cause you made yours smaller than the original. Or it's just my eyes...
The clock is awesomesauce!
**on my edit I misspelled Glimmar...is funny though so I kept it)
:biggrin.gif:
would download right now, but all the transparancy is changed to black.

I suggest we adopt a xenophobic attitude towards this clearly deadly threat.
We need to quarantine any infected individuals to prevent this plague from gaining a foot-hold.
At the outset...any mods I recommend are used by you at your own risk. I've used them mostly without any problems at all, but the responsibility is on you to read the relevant mod thread and sensibly back-up your Minecraft 'bin' and 'save' files before making any changes you may later regret.
Lots of new things on the terrain.png file for you to discover, including a last minute update to the 'Wild Grass' mod textures, in the form of 'lily' and 'lily pad', but the grass still needs a makeover! Any changes you don't like since the last update have their old versions on the terrain file for you to swap back.
I will follow up this release over the coming days with pics in the OP to illustrate what's been added in this release and also all the alternative terrain and item textures that I haven't had time to include in the pack...it was taking way too long to compile and I'm sure you'd rather have the update sooner than later.
Special Thanks
Special thanks for gui's, items and mobs, used in lieu of my own, go to:
Gestankfaust...spider, squid Vondell...chicken, cow, sheep, sheepfur, skeleton, zombie, leather armour, weapon/tool items, compass, watch, cowhide and title screen. d95/Zaffa...creeper Tiger4Ruler...zombiepig Tlos...crossbow Heftig...Blowtorch(flint & steel), gui (modified by Glimmar) Vinegrower...inventory gui BloodJack...container, crafting and furnace gui
Mob and Character Skin Pack
Many thanks to Gestankfaust, who has compiled all the alternative mobs and skins for me, for your convenience, including credits and instructions. This 'skin' pack can be found in the 'extras' folder in my pack.
Extreme Art
Glimmar's 'Xtreme Art' file and alternatives by Tiger4Ruler and Arrrg are to be found in the 'extras' folder in the texture pack. Instructions in the form of a readme file are there too. The pack ships with the 'standard' sized art file, so will run fine without the 'More Paintings Extreme Art' and 'Punch-a-pic' mods, but with serious lack of choice. Here are the links to the mods you'll need, if you wish to use the Xtreme art file (thanks to Tiger4Ruler for the following links):
You will only see the regular paintings in SMP. The server needs to be modded with the xtreme paintings to see those, but both client and server will need the mod or the client will crash when a painting loads.
Most of my time since the last update was spent on the Xtreme art file, which considering it needs a mod to use, is quite a risky use of my time, however, I feel the potential for these 'utilitarian' pics is not to be underestimated in your epic builds, and I'm looking forward to seeing examples of how you've used them to best effect! Just remember, if something doesn't look quite right on the surface, stick it in an alcove and use some dramatic lighting, and if you haven't already, do yourself a favour and install MrMessiah's 'BetterLight' mod. Minecraft instantly becomes beautiful!
Items
The items.png file has been taken back to basics and I am now only offering one choice of file, which is currently a work in progress by myself with contributions from others. There are some new and improved items included, by Tlos, Vondell, etc and myself. If you are looking for something else by way of tools, etc. you will have to edit it yourself from the copious choice of items I will put up in the OP on page 1 (work to be done) or ask on the thread here and some kind soul may put together an item sheet that suits you better.
As the creator of this texture pack I can only use my own work or original work that has been offered by users on this thread, I won't use textures by other artists without their permission and I haven't the time or inclination to seek and ask, when my intention is to do my own. This applies to other artwork in the pack. I've only so much time and I'd rather take that precious time, enjoy Minecraft, and do things right. I don't see this as a race and don't want to lose my enthusiasm for the best game on the planet.
Anyways, it's very late here in the UK and every bit of my spare time this past couple of weeks has gone on texturing, compiling and testing, so I do hope I've not made a stupid mistake in my stupified state! I'll look in tomorrow and see what the flak is! :smile.gif:
Many thanks to all users of Glimmar's Steampunk for your enthusiasm and support! Your encouragement helps maintain the continual flow of ideas and artwork (basically yer all a good bunch). :smile.gif:
Very nice, excellent I say. I do have one question, why did you make a new type of lava? I like both the new one and the old, but I think that the old one fit better, so I'm going to keep it on that. I'm sorry if I missed where you've said it if you'd explained it before.
no problem! other than that, wonderful update. :biggrin.gif: all the mobs are finally reskinned and I'm having fun exploring all the new paintings. (though I'm trying to conserve wool for airships :tongue.gif:)

Thanks, mate. :smile.gif: Change made to spelling in the files posted above. Could you or someone check it out. Many thanks. I'll just change the OP now.
[edit] File download links changed in OP too. Sorry folks for the spelling and hope I've caught it before too many peeps discover they can't use their leather armour (armor) of choice. :smile.gif:
[edit 2] Right I'm off to bed. It's 3.15am here in the UK and I'm dead!
Glimmar, love love LOVE the new art! Especially the bottom right corner stained glass, I love those ornate flower designs. I hope you're not still up to read this, though!
Hehe, I was just using the Stained Glass mod because it changes glass to have alpha transparency, I had entirely forgotten that it also adds a whole bunch of craftable glass blocks! That certainly makes things simpler. I think I'll create a set of glass blocks where grey is my plain glass block, and the rest of the blocks are Victorian stained glass - based on your stained glass art. Perhaps once I'm done you could include a link at the top.
@ anyone who knows: what's up with the waterlily? It looks lovely, but I had no clue there were waterlilies in game.

Love the new update thanks for all the hard work and everyone's submissions.
Just wish it there was an easier way to modify the items.png. Took a while to cut and paste some of the higher resolution items from Gastankfaust's items.png.
Are there any plans to update the crafting table and container the same way the furnace and inventory were done?
Here are a few teaser screenshots. I'm not too happy with most of the stained glass textures yet, I think they need to be simpler, but at least you can get an idea.
Gestankfaust - recognize the glowstone? I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.
Anyone know why, as you can see in the back of the screenshots, Stained Glass turned all my flowers and grass into the glass textures? Unfortunately, another bug is that you still cannot see clouds or water through stained glass. I've contacted ChocolateySyrup about it, and hopefully will hear back about a fix.
@ Tombones - where did you get that gorgeous world map painting?
Does anybody have the old terrain.png for this? I used some of the alternate textures, but I can't get to my old files.

That's one of my next tasks! To update the OP with files of alternate terrain, item, and other textures. Then they''re all easily 'get-at-able', who knows, even alternate collections of paintings, etc.
In the meantime, this is an old terrain.png file you might find useful for some of your old favourites:
@ CuZnDragon: I take it you mean the crafting and container gui's? Oh yes. I'd hoped BloodJack might have had time to upgrade the rez. for those two. However, bit by slow bit I'll be working through everything to have a finished pack. As I've said before, my priority will always tend towards making the world 'material' textures look the best they can. As important and atmospheric as the items and guis are, if something in the world doesn't look right to me, or can be vastly improved (as with the painting textures), then my attention will always focus there. I suppose it's because the thing that spurs me on is showing off construction ideas and vast building projects...not seeing what's in folks containers. Lol!
Having said that, in the run up to the release of pack version 1.8, I worked on a number of the items and found I really enjoyed doing them...so expect more over the next few days folks. Once I've had a little rest (still only had 5hrs sleep last night) and after sorting the OP out, I can then keep a working items.png sheet up there. Please read my note in the release blurb above and on page 1. I don't have the luxury the rest of you enjoy where you can pick your favourite items from other packs. I have to make it slightly more above board and remain true to being original...if you see what I mean. :smile.gif:
@ tombones: Haha! I like what you've done with the stained glass in your pic.
Yep, using glowstone behind ordinary paintings of stained glass has that extraordinary effect of making it look like 'real' stained glass.
Loving that map too! Oh, I wish we could have hundreds of painting slots. I'd love to have an 'mcmap' version of my world I could place at important locations for reference purposes. Would be even better if some one modded the possibilty of writing/drawing on objects...I could then place 'you are here' symbols on each map. :biggrin.gif:
@ Harpspiel: Lol! You've been busy already! As regards the strange goings on when you look through glass, I suspect it's somewhat the same as the effect you get when looking up through water at the sky. It does very strange things to the sun, etc.
So I take it the stained glass mod works ok? There's so much potential for variety!
