Post Part 2:
@ Xanthia: Many thanks for your enthusiastic comments and compliments. Great for encouragement when things get busy and you feel like you're falling behind.
Yep, just putting the finishing touches to both the standard art file and the 'extreme' art file and mostly all the goodies are in place. Finished up on editing the terrain.png file last night (new lava folks! fir tree log and foliage, silver birch log, redstone, sponge, dispenser, furnace top now has a little chimney for when used as powered minecart, sand, wooden door, sandstone block, cake machine, etc,).
Found out this morning that EJHopkins 'Wild Grass' mod has changed, but no time to edit now. I'll release a seperate update for this as the graphics are no longer a part of the terrain.png file and I need to update my grass and add in lily pad and flower textures too!
Really glad you enjoy visiting the thread and your cheshire cat grins are always welcome! :biggrin.gif:
@ Harpspiel: Those skin edits are marvellous. May I add them to the top of the thread and the pack as alternatives?
As regards the subject of females and minecraft, I got into trouble on 'Girlcraft' for loving the idea of a texture pack for young girls, expressing the opinion that it was about time that Minecraft became more 'girl' friendly, rather than the usual assumption that epic building and Minecraft is the preserve of young males. My youngest, a girl, loves Minecraft to bits and loves chasing her brother around and at the moment helping him on his projects. Good clean fun, very creative and sociable...what more could you want in a computer activity for kids!
Anyway, as regards women and Minecraft, my wife (who's a teacher) isn't interested at all, though she approves of the creative aspect) even though she loves Civilisation and farming games on the PC, and the rest of the household just can't get her to see how much fun farming in Minecraft would be! Lol.
I'm not really sure what it is that makes Minecraft appeal to one and not the other. Is it that more men still value their worth by what they build around themselves? I haven't a clue really, but I don't really like folk using statistics etc. to generalise that one thing appeals more to boys than girls, it proves nothing down at the individual level and I dislike male exclusiveness as much as the alternative. I like to think we're all the same generally, different as individuals and stuck sometimes in how we think society perceives us.
Steampunk breaks through it all though! Lol! Phew! Glad I chose to have a go at this particular theme! :biggrin.gif:
Glad to have you aboard, Harpspiel. I love your builds in the pics you uploaded! :smile.gif:
@ Tiger and Harpspiel: Yes, I'd be interested in how the higher resolution character skins work and are seen by others?
@ nmdrkangl: Well, I'm looking forward to what you come up with in your next project. :smile.gif:
I'm currently mindlessly building an epic wall round my island with my son. We take it in turns to mine and make supplies back at my huge station depot, while the other builds on the wall, sending full railcarts back and forth.
Multi-player is a new experience for me, and although it's only a limited Lan setup, we're both getting a kick out of it. Particularly me I think, because with working on textures almost none-stop since last october, I've been getting increasingly frustrated with the progress of my own Minecraft world. Feels like it's going somewhere again and keeps me enthusiastic about the creating new textures.
@ Gestankfaust: Lol! You'll be filming me wearing your skin. Kind of sounds weirdly science fictiony (dare I mention, avatar? No, I didn't think so!). Well, I await the call to see the next epic creation in Pipeworld and then I'll try and give notice of when I can visit! Or should I come unanounced in case of Steampunk assassins wanting their revenge for my terrible Steampunk texture pack!
@ Arrg: Wow! That's a nice painting collection you've put together there. I'll include it as another alternative art pack and bump it to the top, after I get the next update out.
You've also done some nice edits to my terrain textures there in the pics. Any chance you could upload any of them for use at the top and in an 'alternative textures' file I'm putting together? Your terrain.png alternative is an interesting selection! :smile.gif:
@ Moopy: Wasn't aware of that problem with Wild Grass. Although I will still be supporting the WIld Grass mod with my texture pack, it won't be edited in time for my next update. The grass will still be on the terrain.png sheet and folks will have to cut and snip themselves. I'd rather not delay my update any longer than necessary, and it will give me a chance to do justice to the Grass mod when EJ fixes it to work with xau's patcher properly.
@klawz: Yeah sorry had to check the OP, but here you go:
You will only see the reg paintings in SMP. The server needs to be modded with the xtreme paintings to see those, but both client and server will need the mod or the client will crash when a painting loads.
Last time I checked I didn't see them.
Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for the compliments Glimmar.
I would be honored if you included my art work in your next update.
As you mention, the terrain.png file is mostly a compileation, not my work.
I only did the glass, diamond, lapis, some of the marble, and increased transparency of ice and water.
The previous link was to the image only (my mistake).
This one should allow folks to download the actual file: http://www.mediafire.com/i/?i61oryuq8xxo1gh
Triskelli,
The cactus is still there, but with flower on top now.
The iron block uses some of Glimmar's clockworks options for iron now.
However, that texture has been moved to the half-step, because is really works well with the 'Half-Step Insanity' mod.
The pumkin is a pumkin again (because the 'Underwater Breathing Aparatus' mod hasn't been updated yet).
The Nether blocks are from one of CreeperDaReeper's files; the skulls and blood seemed more "Netherly" to me.
@ nmdrkangl: Well, I'm looking forward to what you come up with in your next project. :smile.gif:

that looks amazing. and gives me quite a few ideas myself. :biggrin.gif:
Yes.
Just edit the terrain.png file with something like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.
Window's Paint will not work because it doesn't handle transparent.
Oh ok. I have neither so I will have to live with it.
You can use Paint.Net or Gimp. They are both free programs you can find online that support transparency for image editing. I personally use Paint.Net because its user interface seems easier. http://www.getpaint.net/ http://www.gimp.org/
This pack needs a steampunk clan to go with it... I WANT TO MAKE ONE. But I have a hamachi server and it would destroy my computer with too many people... CRAP! Someone else make one!
Is it just me or is it REALLY dark at night? Torches only light up 1 square. I have filled one of my cabins with torches and it stays the same. It's a little annoying.
@ BigCrush, great job on your first post! Whenever a lurker stops lurking a lolcat gets its' caption.
As for the darkness problem... Well, Glimmar has made a very atmospheric pack, with alot of dark colors on the blocks. Also, while incredibly pretty the green torches seem to give off less light... It's just the nature of the beast I suppose.
Last taster pic of paintings before I wrap up the v1.8 update, including:
1. Alchemical stained glass window (probably other uses too).
2. Large and small chains - horizontal and vertical.
3. Pipes or prop shafts - horizontal and vertical.
4. Large Steampunk propeller/waterwheel
Half the work has been polishing stuff and deciding on what would be most practical and flexible for multiple uses. Hence some things at first might not seem so exciting, as in the case of chains and large pipe/prop shafts, but think of the uses you should be able to put them to, either inset or on the surface of your constructions.

Curse PremiumWhich version of wildgrass. Currently up to 8.5.1 and the grass textures are back in the terrain.png file.

Thank you kind sir Glimmar, for gracing us with your pack of textures crafted of the finest quality. Do pardon my excitement.

(Or am I?)
Sorry, just a funny history-related webcomic I've found, Hark! A Vagrant.
As for the darkness problem... Well, Glimmar has made a very atmospheric pack, with alot of dark colors on the blocks. Also, while incredibly pretty the green torches seem to give off less light... It's just the nature of the beast I suppose.
man, I love Hark! A Vagrant to death. just sayin'.
EDIT: so I've been working on a set of items for my own personal use. after it's done I'll go ahead and make it available to everyone if they want.
