Spider legs also works, assuming they have padded or rubberized tips to keep them silent. Alternatively, small ball rollers or something similar. As for zombies, I think someone else here hit it on the head by saying to make it a Frankensteinian monster. When we get Dragons (I think that's in one of the upcoming updates), I can't wait to see them steampunk'd. And before I forget, what will be done with Slimes? I can't really think of a good way to steampunk a slime. Maybe they could be the same shade as the water, making them into some kind of terrible pollution creature?
Is there an ETA on this, or a list of the textures that still need to be done?
Can't wait to use it, looks great so far.
For those hankering for a completion date - not long now! I don't want this running on any longer than necessary (I've also got other things in the real world I need to be working on with Halloween coming up), but I don't want to be filling in the gaps with other peeps's artwork (namely Doku's) as I respect their work too much to confuse the issue.
list of things still to do:
Tnt
2 x plants
Mushrooms
Sapling
Mob cage
Snow
Ice
Reeds
Jukebox
Crops
Redstone torch
Redstone wire
Sponge (will just do something quick for this and worry later!)
Water
Lava
Things I'm not happy with, but will continue to release variations after release:
Grass
Stone
Cobblestone
Mossy Cobblestone
Half Block
Gold
Tree Foliage
Railtrack
...well probably most things actually - I suffer from 'Fiddlyitis' and 'Tinkering's Syndrome'!

I've been watching this, and I'd like to make a suggestion with my first post, if I could - Creepers could look something like a hot water tank on tank treads. Steam gauge where the frown is, a couple of valves over the eyes, etc. etc. Skeletons could be brass automatons. That are susceptible to overheating in the sunlight.
...
I didn't say the plan was perfect. Also, what block is that that has what appears to be a large fan on it?
Great ideas there! Like the brass'ssss automaton idea, hehe! :biggrin.gif: both ideas work perfectly with the theme and the mechanics of the game! The large fan thing is a valve wheel on one side of the multi-faceted iron block.
Please remember, initially I'm only releasing the terrain.png file with some png's from the item file and also the necessary particles for green water bubbles and gas lamps. When the dust settles and I can pop my head back up from the flames of hate, I'll try my hand at the Art file and the mobs - I've lots of ideas for things to try out there. Probably now after Halloween, both from what I have coming up in my own work and with Notch's big update which is sure to change things drastically. Please keep the ideas coming though, lovin' reading 'em. Don't forget to try out John Smith's mobs, his Zombie, Creeper and Skeleton are awesome!

my suggestion would be to make the cobble closer to the sandstone you have, maybe a dark brown/black?
I'll look into that now after release - worth doing, but my reason for choosing grey is to have that Victorian cobblestone look (which is grey/blue where I live), and also to better contrast with the sandstone block. This cobblestone is fast becoming my nemesis

I am in love with your hangar, Glimmar. Would love to see a cartograph of your whole map
Thanks, Triskelli. Herewith, one cartograph of my world. Lots of ambitious ideas for it, but nothing completed, except my Collosus to the east (if my orientation is correct).
I just wished I'd learned how to copy my save files when I started this world, as the landscape was fantastic with floating islands and huge fortress like mountains, but I'd already spoiled it's virgin qualities by the time I started keeping a save record. One day I'll start a thread in the Survival forum and show how it progresses. If anyone's likely to be interested! :biggrin.gif: No hacking whatsoever - I believe in the Steampunkian 'work ethic'.
Also, if you want to have the same world in it's original state - without any of your own constructions, you could use an editor (Such as LolEditor) to copy the world's seed, then create a new world and use LolEditor to paste the seed and you would get the exact same map, without all the awesome hangars and whatnots. :smile.gif:
You, my man, are a saviour. I'm getting quite nostalgic about my world 3 map (yep, I know Notch told us not to, but these worlds are so pwitty, it's hard not too) and when Notch created a compass I was able to return to my spawn point for the first time since I left it in July - that was quite a moving experience! Now you've given me the secret of time travel and I can go back to pre-historic times in Glimmar's World! Awesome! I better work on these textures first before I get lost in time.
Thanks, Lareh. I'm going to design a time machine in my base to celebrate this and re-enact H G Wells 'The Time Machine'. I've got just the right texture pack in mind for it! :wink.gif:

Be sure to snap some pics before you leave... May your temporal expedition be most fruitful... Just watch out for the Morlocks!
*EDIT*
Maybe that's what you could turn Zombies and Skeletons into... just a thought
Weird Mushrooms!
Happy enough with the Red Cap. Not sure how appetising the blue luminous funghi is! Trying to find an alternative to the common edible mushroom that also has a nice sinister glow in a dark cave. Perhaps better for another theme, but I'll stick with this for now and motor on!

Ha ha! I'm only going 'back' in time for now, the future is far too scary!

I think they'd look a bit better if they were smaller, and instead of just one mushroom (red) you could have something like (couldn't find a good example :P)
Also, there's too many pages to look through, so I'm just gonna ask you. Did you make some sort metal block if we wanted to make metal walls? Like maybe the cobblestone could be metal, and the mossy cobble could be rusting metal? That would be really cool. And then bricks could replace cobble stone?

Apologies for all the pages! :sad.gif: I'd edit all the pics up to the top, if it wasn't such a big job to do, and I really want to just get these textures finished!
I take your point about the funghi. Scale is a difficult one with the plants and mushrooms, and I'm finding they have to be fairly central so that whichever angle they're viewed from doesn't cause weird distortions. However, just a first attempt and will almost certainly be doing a few variations in time when I get the Terrain file completed. You've got me thinking already about doing something different about the red cap though...as in some kind of tenticled thing, that's also definately funghi but also slightly oceanic...
At the moment the iron block is a multi-faceted cog, hatch come valve wheel thingy - should be able to see it on the first page and subsequent pics of my 'skyship'.
I do like the idea of two types of antique type metal though - I just wish there were more block types to mess with. When the first draft of these textures is out I'll look into that idea...me like.:smile.gif: I just cant afford to lose the grey cobble in a Steampunk theme, but then again, thinking of things like the Nautilus from Jules Verne and it would be nice to have metal panels. I think I'll revisit the use of the 'clay' block - at present it's seconding as a sort of blue marble or possibly exotic looking alluminium. perhaps it might be better as rusty metal, and would still pass for clay in the ground! Mmm...possibilities...
You know, considering how excited we've been waiting for this, giving MORE ideas atm would be a HORRIBLE idea, Save them for after release so we can enjoy while its being worked on. k? :3

If I can ever figure out where I put my sketchbook, I'll draw up specifically what I'm thinking of. Also, what are you thinking of for the armor? Steam vents on the shoulders, gears and whatchits all over? Uniforms with sections of the relevant materials? Hang on, I can link to a fair reference.
The uniforms the soldiers wear are a good example of the second option.
Edit: Couldn't find my sketch book, but I figured I could put together an adequate Steam Creeper with my tablet (still practicing with it, so no Brass Automaton this time :tongue.gif:)
I'm much better with a pencil and paper, so if/when I can find my sketchbook, I'll draw up the skeleton and maybe some suits of armor.
man I can not wait until you release this, It'll go great with my steampunk engineer skin. now i must go and design myself a dirigible to make ready for your release (if only it could really fly ingame).

I can offer $4.98..(all I have left on paypal) But I'd rather see you take your time to perfect the Texture Pack so we get a perfect release. Keep up the good work Glimmar!

Curse PremiumStevo, that's the best offer I've had all day! Lol. :biggrin.gif:

You wouldn't want that on your concience, would you?
