MorePaintings-Extreme Art
Besides new and improved terrain textures, mobs and gui's, here are a few more things to look forward to in Glimmer's Steampunk Update 1.8 most of these 'art' (paintings) textures will only work with the 'MorePaintings-Extreme Art' mod, but it is currently working fine with Minecraft Beta 1.2_02 on my system.
Small and Large Propellers
Various Steam Engines and Another Statue
Control Panels
New Stained Glass Windows
More Wheels
Lots more besides! Sorry it's taking longer than expected, but I've had lots to do in RL. I'll do my best after the update to catch up with everyone's posts, as you all seem to be doing some very exciting things.
PipeWorld is looking very splendid indeed, shown off to great effect in another blockbuster from Genstankfaust! Love your Half Life chickens, mate! Haha! :biggrin.gif: I think you definately have a flair for producing unexpected mobs!
@ TimewornDoctor: Many thanks for that fantastic video and the dedication...I am very honoured and pleased you've been enjoying the texture pack. :smile.gif: There's so much going on in that video, I've got to have to have another look through now, especially at everything in the subway train network and I'm looking forward to your next video. Thanks mate your comments in video are much appreciated! :smile.gif:
@ bottyonminecraft: Ha ha! Cheers mate! :biggrin.gif: Love that beer bottle and the Tiger4Ruler edit. It just looks a very sociable kind of item to wander around with, especially with clan mates! It kind of explains why the eyes on your character are looking slightly cross-eyed though! Lol! Put those beers down, mate, your going to fall down those stairs. :0
What about re-texturing the cow to have some brewery link or other? :biggrin.gif:
I hope you folks will be able to make good use of the above paintings. A lot of these new textures need to be displayed in particular ways to get the best from them. The more 3d objects like steam engines and statues look far more believable set back into alcoves as that restricts the onlooker's viewpoint. The new stained glass windows, look far more believable at night when fixed over Nether GlowStones as the light shines out through the paintings (place the glowstone in different arrangements to vary the way the light shines through the glass painting, making each panel different from the next!). Wheels and propellers can be used on the surface of blocks (as in the above pic), but again inset can look better, as you don't get to see that infinitely thin edge!
I'm really looking forward to seeing what you guys cook up with things like the wheels (if you're brave enough to use the MorePaintings and Punch-a-Pic mods). It should be possible to make some awesome looking land-based steampunk vehicles now. Even if they can't move...they'll look like they can. Golioth tanks...Land Leviathans...Captain Nemo eat your heart out, wait 'till the guys here start building!!
Does anyone know if the 'Breathing Apparatus' mod, for use with the pumpkin helm, has been updated yet? If not, could folk ask on the forum so that it doesn't get overlooked. Surely I'm not the only one who likes to explore and build under the sea?
Well, back to work. It'll be ready just as soon as I can make it so. Thanks for your patience! :smile.gif:
Okay, I NEED to get my hands on those paint-files. Dear god, my engines will look even better than before.
Glimmar, why don't you try taking a walk around Pipeworld? The Grand Railway will be going up sometime by next week, I'd be honored if you were the first passenger.
Heh, need to find the half-way point, so I can put in a golden stake. I'm sure you can expect how well that'll go considering the company I'm in:
Here's what I worked on today...It's my SP test world. I use it for testing packs such as this marvelous pack
I did a ton of work on it to add new blocks and make it more of a tour of a texture pack for videos (you guys do know...I like to do those...right?). Well, something crafty and steamy hit me while I was building. This would be my first official Steamcraft structure.
When the blocks are all added and I'm done, I will do video tours of my pack and Glimmar's. If some one knows how to just take this area I've done for the tours and make a smaller map out of it, I might post it for use.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to...."
@ Triskeli: It'd be an honour to come and visit PipeWorld...it looked awesome in Gestankfaust's vid! You'd need to give me the IP (is that what it's called? Lol!) as you know I'm not very familiar with servers and Minecraft. I'll get my youngest son to point me in the right direction. Will there be anywhere to park my 'Collosarachno' vehicle?
The atlantic time difference might cause a problem too, but I'd love to have a walk around what's been built so far. It'll give me the opportunity to be critical of my textures, as walking around the same areas in my own world gets a bit predictable.
@ Gestankfaust: That looks like some kind of drilling rig you've got there! :biggrin.gif: You are fast becoming Minecraft's own Hollywood...the Orson Welles of all things blocky blocky! Seriously, mate I don't know how you find the time to come out with so many quality vids and still do artwork too! I'm still waiting for someone (I bet your already doing it) to make a proper minecraft machinima movie story using Minecraft. I bet PipeWorld would make for an amazingly atmospheric location for some dark adventure!
@ Everyone: Glad you like the artwork to be included in the next update, many thanks for the enthusiasm! :smile.gif:
I think after the next update I may start on a good few textures that could potentially be used to replace some or all of the coloured wool blocks. I really enjoy looking for new architectural/industrial possibilities for building in Minecraft. I don't intend actually replacing the blocks myself for my standard pack, but there's no reason I couldn't bring out a range of alternate terrain.png files for folks to just swap around in the zip. I'm sure many of you will already be doing it and I love the idea of having lots of alternate textures for folk to choose from.
greatest texture pack ever!!1 only needs a little bit of fixing up like the outside pumpkin and jack o lantern skins. they show little squares of water and lava on the outsides a bit. other than that its perfect im building my house and i must say its coming quite awesomely.

There's something called Xau's HD patcher, which fixes all those graphical glitches for 32-packs and up. Glimmar's provided a link to it on the first page. Sorry for the language, but that's one of the most common comments we get here. This IS a long thread, but always try to read the first three paragraphs at the very least.
Oh, and a note about the pumpkins: They've gone and flipped on us! When we put on our diving helmets, it seems we catch an epidemic case of the stupids and jam it on backwards! Could you give us a quick fix Glimmar? Maybe you could switch the face and side textures so the "face" wraps around the front sides, while the "sides" become the back of the helmet?

edit:herp derp didn't see the part of the first post that had the xau hd fixer thingo.
and yeah apparently we do catch an epic case of the stupid and jam it on backwards yet we can see fine...
Excellent skin! Perfect example of Fantasy-style Steampunk. I was actually thinking of making a custom skin.
(Okay, it'd be a fraken-skin, but it should pull together nicely. )
Thanks GypsyReborn for the compliments. Yes, the faults you describe are common to all texture packs that are greater than 16x16 pixels and just need xau's patcher to fix.
@ Triskeli: I wasn't aware of that back-to-front problem with the helmet. Notch must have done something with the code, etc. as I've just done a search and others have reported it also. I'll see what can be done before uploading my latest update. It seems having given us the pumpkin as the best opportunity for a diving helmet, everything conspires against it to make it pointless! Role on proper mod support is all I can say.
I've been using texture for a while, and I have to say it is amazing. I'm a long time lurker, and I just recently made an account. I love the artwork that's up and coming, and I have one suggestion; get rid of the bright yellow drills and axes? They may be nice, but they really don't mesh with the rest of the texture. i am glad you included alternatives, but for photoshop retarded people such as myself, that doesn't do much good. Also, whenever I unzip and rezip a texture file, it stops working.
@ssaint: Well Glimmar has not yet had time to do the items, so the alternatives are all user-content and yes the yellow bright does not excactly fit the theme, I was quick to put the whole item sheet together so I tried to include every contribution of users made. A slight color corrected version I posted on page 81 only Glimmar compiles the ZIP so at the moment either use the standard or live with the too bright yellow.

Want to make a few workers, then mercenaries, nobles, etc...
In the end, I will add mine and the other two I saw in the OP to a pack?

Thank you very much for the information
