anyway, i have a couple nub questions:
i've been trying to find the block that looks like a steel block with gears for innards. is/was this the iron block? has it been replaced and if so is there any way i can get it back? i'm craving that block like a madman for some of my projects D:
i'm also looking for that fan i see in some screenshots on p.1, but i cant tell if its a block or something else since it looks like a part of the iron block (based on the texture key pic Glimmar posted a few pages back) but one screenshot also shows it on some "netherplate" blocks? (i'm frothing at the mouth for this one too Dx )
a lot of the fancy extra blocks (like that one) are one-tile paintings. :ohmy.gif: it took me a while to figure out too.

Hey Glimmar. downloaded your pack a few days ago and tbh this is the first pack i've tried that actually has me saying "wow" without fail every single time i log in to my city. this is amazing incredible stuff, keep up the great work! (to the contributors too ;] )

Many thanks for the compliment, mate. :smile.gif:
I've put both of those textures back in place for the next update. Although they're still redundant in the iron block position, you may be able to cut and paste them on to one of the coloured wool blocks. I'm also working on a separate file of alternate textures that had to be chopped to make room for Notch's new materials, etc. These hopefully will be in the next update and at the top, hence one of the reasons for the delay in updating. I also wasted a lot of time on trying to improve the water and just went round in circles and that's added to the delay. I hope it's not just me who struggles sometimes and ends up wasting time! Lol :sad.gif:
Vondell and Gestankfaust are indeed correct, I didn't delete them from the terrain.png file until I'd added them to the art file. Hopefully I have some new things on the art file too, when I get the next update finished. With everyone else's contributions too there's an awful lot of nice things for folk to play with.
@ Vondell: Your skeleton mob is gorgeous...if one can describe a skeletal robotic monstrosity in such affectionate terms! :biggrin.gif:
Played around with the Punch-a-Pic mod last night and apart from one lock-up in a couple of hours, it made for a much easier use of paintings. However, I'm sadly going to stick with updating just the 'standard' art file for the foreseeable future. Notch's updates have a way of making some aspects of work a bit futile. I would love for Notch to officially increase the size, quantity and positioning of paintings. We could do so much more to make our worlds look unique. Paintings are definately the ultimate props, we just need more of 'em! So no 5x5 clock faces just yet...it's ruined a couple of my clock towers! :sad.gif:
Over on Pipehead's server we've just started a new world (So we can get at that delicious Lapis ). 'Course, it wouldn't be PipeWorld without some huge castle in the middle. The current project has us making a sea fort out of sandstone, with cobble crenelations. It looks pretty sweet so far, despite being very much under construction.
I'd show some screen shots, but two things are holding me back: One, I have the texture pack removed for performance reasons, and I'm totally lost on the server
Anyway, have a look at the forums here: We'd be glad to have you... PipeWorld Forums
thx guys. here i was running through every block in the damn game and paintings had totally slipped my mind. /facedesk

if its that easy then im definitely gonna try it out when i get home tonight. cuz iirc i think paintings can only go on the sides of a block, and i'd been lookin to put that fan on the floors and ceilings around my factory.

NekoSteamBoy, has very kindly offered to try and put together a separate website for 'Glimmar's Steampunk'. Initially as a repository for everyone's pics of their fabulous builds and as a gallery to inpire others, but ultimately (so long as it doesn't involve too much housekeeping input from 'yours truly'...me!) a place for alternative textures, mobs, etc. so that this already overwhelming thread doesn't bust at the seams! I don't want to put any pressure on Neko, or make any wild promises, but as I've said before, I'd like a little more freedom to work on textures and artwork rather than housekeeping and this might be a way forward.
Very awesome. It would kind of be nice to get a database (or something more simple) that could show who is working on what, share ideas on various aspects that need work, etc. And in an ideal world (probably a quite a ways off) a texture customizer tool such as Painterly Pack has. Yeah, thats asking a lot, but I dream big. (I'm a trained artist, and literally have no clue what kind of coding it takes to make something like that. In my mind, coders use magic to make things happen)
also, has anyone set up a MP server? I'm not really familiar with how MP works, but it could be cool to have a world set up dedicated to Steampunk. Working on a Victorian mansion in my own world, but it would be fun to walk around with some other people in their creations.
Well, I host my own private server of which a few here build on. PM me your MC name and I'll add you to the whitelist.

well, I'd really like a concerted effort to build a dark steampunk city, but I NEED HELP!
Go to http://pipeworld.servegame.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=13 to submit application. I have a very small server so space is limited. Plus with the death of hMod and Bukkit not fully release the server tends to go up and down...please be patient?
I was thinking, maybe now that I've hit over 64 items, maybe I should try making a 16x16 version of the crossbow and the harpoon cannon, for anyone who may want it.
Also, I'm extremely flattered. I'm glad that I could be of help, and please don't hesitate if there's anything you would like to request, I'll take my best shot at it.

Speaking of sandstone and lapis, I've modified both of them for the next update. Ever such a slight edit on the lapis (because I eventually found enough to make a block and I was quite please at how it looked, considering it was complete guesswork and made in a rush to get it out as quickly as poss.) Found an annoying repetitive aprt to it though and smoothed that out. Little things can be very annoying when scaled up to many on the side of a wall! The sandstone has been heavily edited and I've changed the sand again to bring it more in line with the new sandstone and it's possibilities as a secondary sandstone building material, obviously the sand has to be supported by other materials where appropriate.
As I mentioned previously, I wasted a day on the water texture without much to show at the end, but have tried to iron out some annoying lines that were showing up over large areas.
The cake 'machine' you've seen above, but I struggled with that one for a couple of days, wasting time on a design that didn't work because Notch has coded the side of the cake to be reversed on each side, so had to come up with a different design and redo the item icon for it a couple of times too!
I've had time to properly edit the silver birch from my rush job last update and new fir tree foliage (though there is a bug I'm sure you are all aware of ingame, where the two types of foliage get mixed up on the same tree! Looks very strange.) I've edited many other things including redstone ore, coal, deciduous foliage, wooden door, dispenser, etc.
Sorry the update is taking a little longer than expected. I'm currently still trying to finish off the standard art file with useful gadgets and architectural features I had planned for the last update, and a file of alternative textures that could be used on any of the coloured wool blocks, but you'll have to do the cutting and pasting as I think the current cloth textures, can stand as they are for a while longer while I consider their fate!
As previously mentioned, I will include all the lovely gui's and mobs you guys have been submitting, with due credit of course.
@ Tlos: I have to apologise for not putting recent edits of your works and others at the top, but I'm just having to concentrate on finishing stuff now for this next update. Sorry, mate! Is there any chance I could ask you to arrange the items to fit along the width of the page to save space at the top when I put them on display? Also you remind me of me, when you talk of a crippling fear of online play! I'm a bit of a sad case really and both my lads laugh their heads off at me, but then again I am a sad old timer who'd rather work alone in the desert. I like seeing what the rest of you do from afar though!
I would have no trouble arranging them lengthwise, but can you give me an opinion? Should I make it straight forward:
W: S: I: D: G:
Picks: WWWW SS II DD GG
Shovels:WWW SS I DD GG
etc, or would you rather like it like:
Picks: Shovels: Axes:
W XXXX XXX XXX
S XX XX XX
I XX X X
D XX XX XX
G XX XX XX
?
Sorry, the autoformat messed it up a bit.
Sorry, mate! I realized after my post above, that I'd probably asked a difficult task considering your key of standard tools has to go alongside, though you seem to have thought of a good way here to solve that problem. Personally I think the second format might look better, but I'm happy for you to decide what looks best for your items.
For display purposes, I will do the same for all the alternative textures, after this next update. In the end I'd like a system at the top where it was easy to add newly submitted stuff, without it looking ragged and stretched and properly organised into textures, items, mobs, gui's, sundry, etc.
It will still probably mean I'll have to keep a png file for display purposes and a separate file for download...so that in the case of mobs and gui's they'll still be useable without editing after download, but textures and items being based on a 32x32 pixel size will need to be cut and pasted as required.
It's going to take a bit of work, but will mean that at the end it will look a lot nicer at the top and a copy of each up-to-date file could be placed in the extra's folder of every subsequent pack update. What am I letting myself in for? Aaaagh!
[edit] I certainly haven't got my head around how I'd display everyone's 'item' submissions on a sheet, other than to cram them all in to 32x32 boxes as an when they came in and let folks decide themselves what they want the item for! I don't want to get bogged down reformatting a layout for every new item!! Then there's the question of properly ascribing credit to different contributers! Any suggestions? There probably isn't an easy solution. Lol!
If you want me to do some dirty work (not creative...just stuff you "have to do" like arranging old stuff/new stuff) I am willing to help. Just PM me with what you need.

That's a very kind offer mate.
I'm not even sure where to start, other than as I confusingly outlined above. I guess when I've got this next update rounded up and out, then I just have to get stuck in and cut and paste things myself, because I'm the only one on the spot who can edit the top, but any suggestions would be gratefully received, or thoughts on how to easily credit folk, without it all becoming an editor's nightmare. Sorry to be whinging so much!

I've kinda already got that stuff done on my PC for use with your pack anyway (even already have an items.ping started for Tlos a bit ago that I can include with his updates)
