@ Vondell: Fabulous collection of mobs there and a great title screen too! Am I free to use any of those for the next pack update, with due credit of course? :smile.gif:
The chicken is pure classic fun. I'd always wanted the domesticated mobs to be natural, but after seeing that hen, I've just been smiling over my breakfast. I Love the cow and sheep and alternative creeper.
I must admit, when I started this texture pack I never realized how much interest and generosity it would inspire. It's very pleasing to see all this creative talent on show and has definately made Glimmar's Steampunk unique in more ways than just it's theme. Every contribution made by users, seems to inspire more. Somehow this kind of fits the theme very well in my thinking. Steampunk is very much a collective of wild imaginative machinery, creatures and industrial epicness!
I hope everyone is happy for me to pick and choose what goes up front in the next pack, so long as I also include all the alternatives of course and do my best to credit accordingly.
NekoSteamBoy, has very kindly offered to try and put together a separate website for 'Glimmar's Steampunk'. Initially as a repository for everyone's pics of their fabulous builds and as a gallery to inpire others, but ultimately (so long as it doesn't involve too much housekeeping input from 'yours truly'...me!) a place for alternative textures, mobs, etc. so that this already overwhelming thread doesn't bust at the seams! I don't want to put any pressure on Neko, or make any wild promises, but as I've said before, I'd like a little more freedom to work on textures and artwork rather than housekeeping and this might be a way forward.
However, many thanks to all you guys producing and sharing marvellous stuff for all to enjoy, helping to make this pack better and our enjoyment of Minecraft richer.
I'm a bit busy today, but hopefully I might still have an updated terrain file for everyone before the weekend is out. A cake surprise is in the great brass oven as I type.
of course, feel free to use them for whatever you wish. :smile.gif: that's what they're here for.
I'm always down with helping with this pack, because so far as I'm concerned it's simply the nicest-looking texture pack I've seen. Nice enough that I play it, and nice enough that if I see something that could be added or improved I'm not just going to wait around until someone else does it. :biggrin.gif:

Excellent, mate, many thanks!
Different theme I know, but that chicken reminds me of 'K9' from 'Dr Who'. You've imbued it with a distinctive blocky robotic personality that far exceeds it's original purpose and I can't wait to try it out (no wonder you've got it as your avatar)! The first time I saw d95's creeper and Gestankfaust's mechanised squid ingame flopping around on the surface of a lake, I've come to realise how well Steampunk can work with Minecraft's 'blocky' limitations.
In less than a week, I've probably got enough now to make it worthwhile putting another version of the pack together! Thanks to you and others...and I've had the time to enjoy a bit of building and texturing too!
I may even feel up to sorting the top of the thread out next week to show off everyone's goodies, YAY!
affirmative! it does remind me of K-9. and yes, it's lovely ingame.
how do you feel about the other enemy mobs being (at least partially) mechanical? I know you were trying to go natural with the passive mobs, but I'm not sure of the direction you're looking for on the enemies.

Maybe the zombie should be a zombie (because there is a lot of zombies in Steampunk, like Christie Priest's Century of Steam) and the skeleton should be a robot (like The Affinity Bridge).

Oh, definately. As, mentioned earlier in the thread, the reason I chose to represent the nether materials as metal and crystaline sludge was to give this impression of some vast underground civilisation bent on the destruction of natural life above. Hence I envisaged mechanical monstrosities made by degenerate creatures (pigmen and zombie/pigmen) streaming out of caves at night to attack those above.
Therefore, please feel free to let your imagination run with the theme, both for animals and monsters. I'm all for folks having choice. My world view of Steampunk is bound to be different than others. I've always wanted things to look as believable as possible, hence my original view of animals, and I personally won't go down the line of making mechanical trees, flowers, etc. as it kind of pushes it too far into the realms of something like 'Robots' ,which is a marvellous film, but not what I see as true Victorian (Jules Verne style) Steampunk.
I'm just about to have a little session with your new mobs and 'Mojang' screen included...lovely!
I'm looking forward to what you come up with, mate!
Yeah got to echo that last statement , those mobs are really well done vondell and fit this pack superbly .
No idea how to include them , I'm so computer illiterate :tongue.gif: , fingers crossed Glimmar includes them in the next zip file :smile.gif:
Any mobs done can go directly into the texture pack, overriding the current ones. Make a folder on your desktop called "mobs". Put all versions of mobs you like in there making sure they are labeled differently from one another. Then pick which realist, robotic, zombie, realbotic or zombotic version you want to go in the zip file's "mobs" folder.

indeed. it's a lot simpler than it sounds like it'd be.
and thanks for the kind words, guys. :biggrin.gif: next!
looks like the pigmen down in Hell aren't so good at making enemy robots afterall. well, at least they're persistent. this one is a rusty-stabby-tron and it seems to have the skin of some human or humanlike creature casually draped across its face.

Cheers for the advice m8 , but it's a no go , still have normal chickens .
Steps I followed , username/appdata /roaming/minecraft/texturepacks/Glimmars/mob
Now putting the chicken robot in there does nothing , cant even see the other animals ?
All I see are
creeper
pig
pigzombie
spider
spider 2
squid
squid 2
Thats all I see except for robot chicken , even tried just dragging it into the zip file and not the mob folder with no luck .
Where are the sheep / cows / chickens that seem to be missing from that folder ?
Where are the sheep / cows / chickens that seem to be missing from that folder ?
Thanks :smile.gif:
Firstly: The mob folder in the pack only overrides the originals. If there isn't a chicken in the pack, the original should be auto placed in game by MC.
Second: I noticed when viewing the robochicken, that it's named "chickenl.ping". Di you rename it without the "l"?
Hope it helps...and I may throw together all of the forms into a zip if there isn't one already.

Here's the mob pack for Steampunk. If there's one I missed, lemme know
*with all spiders, comes a spider eyes file. It's important that you include the eyes files when using customs or the default spider eyes will appear on your custom. In my case, the one submitted here has a blank spider_eyes.png for the purpose of showing no eyes on my version.
**Extract the folder and rename the versions you want. Then add the folder to Glimm's (or any other) pack.

Yup , that was the cause . missed that one , removed it and works fine .
Great to know how to do this now , thanks for the advice guys :smile.gif:
You know what, I just got an idea for Leather Armor. I'm thinking of maybe reskinning it into a napoleonic soldier's uniform. You know, with a shako helmet and that big front flap thing with some brassy bits? Yeah.
I've only been away for a few hours and so many wonderful new things above!
Fear not...I will include all the things I see above in the next pack along with any new things I do. Here's a...
Cake Machine
It's a replacement for the cake of course and for those who like their gadgets, gives us another prop to use, other than just eating it of course. Rather than eating, you are using it to replace parts in your mechanical prosthetic attachments.
I may not get a complete updated texture pack ready this weekend, as I will be busy again tomorrow, but hopefully fairly soon!

Very awesome. It would kind of be nice to get a database (or something more simple) that could show who is working on what, share ideas on various aspects that need work, etc. And in an ideal world (probably a quite a ways off) a texture customizer tool such as Painterly Pack has. Yeah, thats asking a lot, but I dream big. (I'm a trained artist, and literally have no clue what kind of coding it takes to make something like that. In my mind, coders use magic to make things happen)
also, has anyone set up a MP server? I'm not really familiar with how MP works, but it could be cool to have a world set up dedicated to Steampunk. Working on a Victorian mansion in my own world, but it would be fun to walk around with some other people in their creations.
