lol I still need to test ya pumpkin blur... :wink.gif:
HAha! I bet it is! I haven't even looked at the complexities of armour, etc. yet! That suit's looking nice though, and those items. Thank you contributors! :smile.gif:
Awesome texpack Glimmar.
But i do have a small request, will you add support for TheFancyPack ?
Would be nice to see some real furnitures in minecraft no?

I would also like to second this request, you know if its not to much trouble. Awesome pack btw

I'd also like to request support for The Fancy Pack.
I love the look of that mod too. Those guys are very ingenius, but I think it's early days to be supporting such a big mod, as over the coming months I think Notch will be using a lot of the block ref no's that have been used. I already find it a struggle just to keep up with all the notifications, etc. that are necessary when Notch does an update!!
As I've still a lot to do yet with what we've already got, I want to be my usual over-cautious self and wait a little bit to see how established the mod becomes. For any HD texture pack, it's a big investment of time to complete even just a few extra blocks! :sad.gif: Just like you though, I am very keen to have more to work with in the game. most definately better to have more choice.
I'm pretty busy, out and about all this week, but if you're interested I'm currently trying to finish off the foliage and grass biome triangles for the next update. :smile.gif:
I'm really sorry guys, I've been busy with school work recently and didn't get a chance to work on the tools. I should be able to work on them again Wednesday.
Whatever you do, Tlos it will be eagerly anticipated and a bonus. :smile.gif:
Well, I'm still busy, but I managed to through together one tool, the wooden sword. I included two versions, one bent up and dented, and the other brand new.
Clean sword/Cane
Banged up Sword/Cane
They didn't turn out quite like I wanted, I'll take another crack at them when I get the chance.
Edit:Woah, they look really jagged here, they look a lot better in game (save for the inventory screen, they seem jagged there too, I'll fix it once I'm free).
Glimmar (and everyone who's helped so far), I must say that this is by far my favorite texture pack and is the only one I've been using since the day I got the game. This texture pack has actually gotten me back into steampunk and I've found many things online that are steampunk related. I never get tired of how great it looks and I'm really looking forward to the item textures you'll have out eventually. I fully support this texture pack and I wish I could help in some way, but sadly I'm not good at the artistic stuff :sad.gif: Great work and keep it up :biggrin.gif:
The diving helm HUD looks really neat but I don't think the smooth style fits in with the current textures, in my opinion you should reduce the size of it by half and try not to use to much transparency to make it fit in better with the 32x32 textures.
The default size of the pumpkinblur is 256x if I remember right, so it should be expected to be a much higher quality then the other textures. I think it looks great, and has a great effect on the atmosphere (even above water). To each their own, but I think it looks great as-is.
It's only that large because the original blur was very blurry and notch probably thought it looked bad at a lower resolution.
This isn't a blur though, so naturally it should be adjusted to fit better with the actual graphics.
I mean, if you stand really close in front of the actual block it just becomes large squares, but when you put it on your head it suddenly becomes a vivid and detailed image, that's just strange consistency-wise.
It's not supposed to be a HD-pack.
Ha ha! I take your point about consistency, Seiseki, but I always view the hud as kind of part of my space (like I'm putting on a helmet in the real world) so I have tried to make it look as real as possible. As soon as I put the helmet on, even though the pumpkin helmet in minecraft is only a blocky 32x32, the Minecraft world becomes that space depicted in the restricted viewing glass plate ...all the space around inside of the helmet is 'my' world.
Now I suppose I could achieve the same effect by making myself an actual steampunk helmet, but then you lot wouldn't have any fun. I also think that to make it lower res. would eventually annoy the heck out of me, in the same way that standing up close to a typical minecraft block would break the illusion of a real world. One of the pleasures for me in Minecraft, despite it's blockiness, is stepping back in awe at some of the scenes and how beautiful they can be at a distance (especially with the 'ambient occlusion' mod installed!), but close up sometimes it can look a bit meh!
I think that's also why a lot of my landscape textures are plain and less vibrant than most other texture packs. I mostly view my world at a distance and the worse thing for me is to see repeating texture patterns in stone and grass. With something like cobble, which is man made and set in ordered rows on the ground and in walls, it seems to me it is quite acceptable to see pattern - so long as it's not unintentional. I don't think it's possible to have natural random looking cobble blocks (like the arrangement in a dry stone wall) without a repeating pattern appearing where it shouldn't...especially over distance, reminding me that it's just the same block repeating ad-infinitum.
Anyway, back on topic, I think because the diving helm is literally 'in your face', it's acceptable to make the resolution as close to reality as possible! Only my opinion of course, and it would be no trouble to make a lower 256x256 alternate version for the top of the thread if folks wanted that.
I'm glad folk generally seem to like the design of the pumpkinblur. I was worried the restricted view might put people off, but I think there has got to be some trade off for the advantage of being able to stay underwater indefinately (with the 'breathing apparatus' mod).
Awesome news! Want to further add to the atmosphere of your epic steampunk worlds? 'Vernian Process' a musical collective of talented artists who create music themed around Victorian scientific romance and the modern equivalent of steampunk, has given us free use of instrumental music from their latest album 'Behold the Machine'. A full 11 tracks are available for download here for free:
Josh, the lead singer in 'Vernian Process' is a Minecraftian too, it's due to his interest in our favourite game and Glimmar's Steampunk, that he has kindly made it possible for us to have free use of their music...and it really is fantastic to listen to, whilst wandering around your steampunk builds. Many thanks to Josh and Vernian Process for being so generous.
Hey Glimmar, this may be a bit off topic, but how did you decide on the architecture for your base(s). They look so nice. Mine all end up looking rather boring from the outside, any tips?
I've always loved looking at architecture, both modern and ancient and I build from time to time using wood, brick and stone on my own land, so I guess I have a feel for some building materials. I also love history and have a degree in fine art and art history and a passion for science fiction, fantasy the outdoors and photography. Put all those things together and I suppose it might explain why I like Minecraft so much and tend to want to build on an epic scale rather than just survival/mob killing. Minecraft allows me to indulge in all my interests at once from the comfort of my swivel chair! :biggrin.gif:
I've only really worked on one world (my world 3) since I purchased Minecraft in June this year (2010) and that started with me swimming across the sea from a boring little island to discover an amazing series of mountains - as one does in Minecraft - and I think my aim from the start was to create something that seemed like it had naturally grown up out of the mountain. I naively thought I wanted to build some great citadel and bit by bit spread out into the landscape. I've always tried to think along the lines of being in the landscape and doing what I'd have to do when taking into consideration the lay of the land and what I needed to make my work easier there. So harbours and railway stations aren't just cosmetic, but actually built with the idea that I can get in and out of my expanding kingdom more efficiently.
Building in my world and putting together the textures I wanted there, both kind of fed off each other ideas wise, but everything is very hap-hazard and half finished. When i get an idea for something I start to build, even though I haven't the time to finish it, just so that i won't forget and some time down the line I know I can always carry on. I do like to make things look like there's a reason for them being there. The main thing for me though is just sticking with my original world so that it gets bigger and bigger! :biggrin.gif:
Great work there Reaper. I like how you've used the steampunk materials, it looks very luxurious and epic. Is this still a work in progress, 'cos I can't see a distance shot of the airship? Will you upload some of the best pics to the thread here for inspiration?

Thanks Glimmar! We're really honored to be featured with your fantastic pack. When I first stumbled across this thread, I knew our work would accompany yours perfectly. We hope your users enjoy the music as much as we enjoyed making it. =)
And if anyone is interested in hearing the full album (with my vocals lol), it can be found at http://www.vernianprocess.com
Hey Josh, your vocals are amazing (just want to make that very clear to everyone looking in!) and perfectly match the style of music.
I've been listening to all the tracks over and over today, while building deep underwater, and the track 'Into the Depths' was perfect for setting and raising the atmosphere. A great fan of the first track, but really enjoying 'Queen of the Delta' immensely, all the while exploring new territory. It just illustrates to me how important it is to have music that fits the theme, and this does in brass bucket loads!! Many thanks again. :smile.gif:

Oh yeah, I think the vocals came out well, but I have to admit, it is more fitting having instrumental tracks playing in game. I imagined The Exile being perfect for some deep cave exploration (with the end of the song being particularly appropriate for running away from the creepy crawlies that will chase you out of their caves). =)

Tlos, fantastic little cane tools. I put them at the top straight away this time, before I let it have chance to slip my mind. Looking forward to your next little gem! :biggrin.gif:
Hey Glimmar. Big fan and love your pack so much. Have always been a steampunk kinda guy but I noticed today when I made a brick block it was all messed up. LIke it had a fourth of portal texture and fire texture and some brick. Is there something I can do to fix this?
Does anyone have an idea that I can use for the stone sword? I made a small dagger for it, but it just doesn't feel right.
Edit: Here it is, just in case you want to know what's wrong.
It just doesn't feel steampunky (is that the correct syntax?) enough.
Proper term is "Steampunkish".
Anyway, I personally like the stone dagger, mainly because unlike many other packs it actually looks like it's made of stone. Besides, it fits well with the "realistic" themes of the pack instead of the more "fantastic" versions of steampunk you sometimes see.

The problem is that steampunk doesn't really use stone. The best thing I can think up (and this is really stretching steampunk) is an Aztec Maquahuitl. (Image) My reasoning is that steampunk is also big on exploration, right? So shouldn't we have a few trinkets from journeys, like weapons of indigenous people? Though, like I said, this is REALLY weakly related to steampunk.
Also, for diamond weaponry, I think we need something really ridiculous to match the high damage. I think something like Fallout 3's power fist (image ) would fit perfectly. (I'm thinking having the front being made of diamonds and having the fist being steam-powered.) I think would be really make sense to have a giant steam fist thing to be the top melee weapon.
