I usually stick to lurking, but I have to take the opportunity to say thank you for this amazing texture pack. It has changed the way I play minecraft.
If I had any requests they would be:
An alternative "Iron Door" texture that looked more like a saferoom/panic-room type solid door.
Glass alternative with less obvious tiling for use with Better Glass Mod. (I make large window-wall structures and large skylights)
I am also very interested in the shaders, and eagerly await their release!
Good call on the alternative door. I don't use better glass, so it's hard for me to imagine your use case. Care to post a screen so I can get a better idea?
Hi, I just tried out your latest version, I'm really diggin' the new doors and chests. The sides of the boat remind me of cheese. I noticed the skull at the bottom of the boats, it's pretty neat. It might be my game, but from the looks of it the skull at the bottom doesn't seem to be centered however.
I LOVE this pack, I love all the changes you're making. I had an idea for a wolf alternative texture you could make. Instead of having a red collar when you tame them how about a red eyepatch??
Again, great work!
EDIT: Also you should maybe think about a different door. This modern glass door is great but it doesn't really fit in with the new look you're going for. Cheers.
I am currently using the Better Glass texture's labelled as "Frenden's 16x16" in the thread here. (This might have been a previous glass alternative you used?)
A quick peak at the files included will tell you everything you need to know about how the mod works. It's pretty straightforward. Here's some quick shot's I did using that texture, to give you an idea of the tiling for these types of projects:
You'll note the sandstone complaint no fewer than three times in as many pages. It's been addressed in the latest beta packs.
The glass texture no longer has the highlights, too, so the fella with the better glass mod's request was fixed in the beta packs too, a while ago, unless I'm missing something. You just wanted less obvious tessellation, no? The lack of highlights ought to fix that.
I'm happy that you are looking to take the texture pack in a new direction. You're a great artist and I'm happy to have more of your packs to choose from. However, I'm sure a lot of us that have been with you since the beginning have grown accustomed to the wonderful style you started with and would like you to continue with that as well. Is it possible that you could have two different packs going concurrently? I'm not really a fan of mixing and matching packs or sorting through alternate textures... I want the pack the way the artisted intended. If you don't want to continue updating a pack in the previous style, then could you at least give us a way of downloading your favorite version of the previous look?
All that said, personally, I think your 1.4 pack was your best yet (outside of the gravel, didn't like the highlight on the rocks). I don't really care for the look of the grass in this beta update. It doesn't look appealing from far away or close up. And the sand stone's diagonal slant is pretty distracting, though it was a really great idea.
I appreciate your opinion, jehbeh. My goal with the pack is for it to continually grow and change. I don't wish to alienate older users by any means, but there may be changes here and there that some people disagree with. That's inevitable. If you look through this thread, there are as many people arguing for darker wood as there are lighter. There are many more examples where I do try and listen to the vocal minority for a compromise of sorts.
The old dirt and grass tiles are in the terrain png file. I encourage anyone to swap them out for the new ones if the new tiles bum them out. Those tiles in the refined version of the pack are still undergoing major changes. They were the last things for me to iterate on, and they are yet unfinished in my eyes. So, if you're using the beta texture pack, remember - it's not final. This thing has changed a heap since my first release. Come along for the ride; I think you'll like where it's going!
I hope you do not mind, I took your current glass texture from 7.10 and cut it up in Pixelmator to replace the old Better Glass glass texture. I will try to keep it updated with your frequent texture changes (This is such a great thing about the pack! Always fresh!)

Also, I'm glad to hear about the shader!

Those are gorgeous screens my friend.

Better Glass glass texture for Frenden's
Some pictures with the updated texture (Please note, the structures themselves are no where near complete and the shaders are a bit extreme)
P.s. i love the pig texture
Tweek, paintings are in the works.
Okay, rad. I want to take screens for the new pack, but the old water drives me nuts.
