I may just go back to the original sand but I wanted to see if there was a way to differentiate sand and planks without having to change the relative brightness of either too much.

Have you considered just changing the wood entirely?
I changed the hue of the default / and simplified them quite a bit, made it all uniform to match the rest of the pack. could use an adjustment to fit the color of the top, though.

It's been darkened already. The whole game is dark aside from the wood and sand. They are practically the only two building blocks that add a light value to the set. I encourage anyone to change the pack to their liking. I'd like to provide options for people in a customizer, but I lack the funds or programming experience. In the meantime, I continue to make small changes to try and keep everyone happy, but that's a razor's edge. :biggrin.gif:
Is there any difference between my normal zip and the new ones I need to make for pack compatibility? I have been stupid-busy and unable to check. I just downloaded a few other peoples, but I'm not seeing any obvious differences. I'd like to fix the ice texture (too transparent atm), zip it, and get it uploaded...

You could take a look at mine, I think I got everything right. Basically, you need to have your images and folders in the root of the zip, move the char.png to mobs, and make a new environment folder and move your rain and snow images into it. And then ofcourse, the pack image and description.
I changed the sand and wood a bit. Wood's a hair darker, sand a hair lighter. It's a small change, but it's probably better than it was. And I dare say, the wood started out aaages lighter if you go back and look at the first few posts. It's been a gradual, if stubborn on my part, evolution.
Notch's official texture pack solution does not actually use custom grass and foliage gradients; it's a bug he said he'd fix. The first image is using the default grass gradient that ships with the game. The second is using Frenden's and it's that color because you're in a colder climate.

Anyways, I love your pack :3

OFF TOPIC-
Wow, love the house! Can I have the save (or map)? I'd love to venture through it!
I haven't installed v5 yet, making sure everything is how I want it before I put it on.
