As for inventory, the biggest problem is between cloth/gravel/sand. Rock/cobble is only a problem at lower resolutions. I increase contrast and add a yellow hue on the sand, to compensate.
Several of the textures are lighter and should actually be easier to see in the dark. Overall, there was a ~ 5% change in value on a few textures to make them sit better with the plethora of grass colors they encounter with the new grass-biome-situation. It's a trade off. I sacrificed a little bit of color to make sure the tiles didn't clash. I'm tweaking this further.
I actually ended up using a lot of your old textures for their contrast and simply increased the contrast in the grayscale tree and grayscale dirt. Here's how they compare:
Left side is your current one and right one is your old one.
It's a slight difference but a noticeable difference, nonetheless. The grass texture look 'muddy' and not as distinguishable, while your old ones felt more colorful. You can particularly see that in the trees.

The FrendenTPV4 file still has the same problem, except it happens while I'm loading a world now.

Hello fellow minecrafters,
I am poor and unable to buy a minecraft account!
Someone, anyone please help me out!
I have no money and all i do is play on my computer, so please, someone help me out !
If anyone knows of an easy way to batch-strip color profile information, I'm all ears. This only happens to a small fraction of users, so I wish I knew why some crash and some don't. I'm guessing your monitors may have custom color profiles and the game hard crashes when loading a second. I dunno.

oooooo, what is that program your using to edit textures?? and where can I get it?? :biggrin.gif: I've been trying to work on a texture pack of my own, but having trouble with the program I have..
Each biome is individually colored. This provides for a lot of terrain variation. Saturation levels should match what they were pre-Halloween update. Here are a few screens:
I'm curious to see if y'all would rather have more defined biomes (seasonal biome is orange, tundra is blue green, forest is hunter green, plains are the original green, etc) or the catch-all gradient akin to what it was before. I'm not sure myself, yet.
Ha! Gratz on entering the contest. Your pack, while in my opinion the most pleasant one to use, is still somewhat of an acquired taste (for the awesome people =) so I doubt it will convince everybody - I'd love to see it being included as perhaps a bundled alternative?
I just hope the Painterly one doesn't win. It's good and customizable, don't get me wrong, but I hate how the too-detailed textures look at greater distances. It's also very, very brown.
P.S. I'll check out your newest variation. You're updating like mad now. :-D

Yeah, it's not for everyone. That's okay, though!
Painterly is fine -- a lot of people lurv it. Not my cup of tea either, though. Detail can be great (see: Eld).

Awesome! I messed around with your original v4 and used some gaussian blur on the foliagecolor and grasscolor files and I got essentially the same effect you got on those screenshots. Now, is there any way to know which section of the files is reserved for which season or biome?

Based on the information found in this thread viewtopic.php?f=25&t=71923
I reversed the code and generated an image that should show exactly how the biomes map to the two colors.png files.
* RAINFOREST (rainforest)
* SEASONAL FOREST (seasonal forest)
* PLAINS (plains)
* DESERT (desert)
* FOREST (forest)
* SHRUBLAND (shrubland)
* SAVANNA (savanna)
* SWAMPLAND (swampland)
* TAIGA (taiga)
* TUNDRA (tundra)
