Fix?
Make sure you are using the latest version, which should be called mcpatcher-1.1.4.exe
It seems to hang patching the AnimTexture(z.class)... whatever that means.. I left it for a few minutes, but eventually just did as you asked and tried to run it...
Do you have a texture pack installed? If so which one? If not, use the Texture Pack option to install one.

What pops up the error message? Does anything happen before that? How are you running the file? Is it named mcpatcher-1.1.4.exe? Did you rename it? Can you try the .jar version?

I double clicked the exe file
How are you running the file?
As admin and in these locations:
C:\User\<USERNAME REDACTED>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin\mcpatcher.exe.
C:\User\<USERNAME REDACTED>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\mcpatcher.exe.
I downloaded it 20 minutes ago. Said 1.1.4. Did not rename it. Did move it from download folder to the above directories.
The program runs and patches properly with a custom skin set. My question is about the compass. Is the compass included with this patch, or is that something that I need to install externally to this patch?

The compass fix is part of this patch, but the needle is still the original size. So the bigger your textures are, the smaller the needle will be, and you may need to pull it out to see it. I'll fix it soon probably.
HOW TO USE
1. Download and run the latest .exe file (mac/linux: use the .jar file)
2. If the file fields are not automatically filled in, hit the top browse button and find your minecraft.jar
3. If you don't have an HD texture pack installed, go download one, then hit the browse button next to "Texture Pack" and find the file for it.
4. Click patch.
5. When it's done, click Run Minecraft.

Are there any side effects? You should let Notch know about this.
Fuzzy edges on equipped items sometimes. Compass needle is still 16x16 size. Can't use custom textures for animations. Animations are too cpu intensive in 128x128+. Don't see why Notch would be interested.
You've done an amazing thing with this coding of yours, xau. The interest in HD textures sky rocketed after what you did and you effectively gave a lot of options for building, with those missing glitched blocks, back to those who use them... and more besides. So I am very grateful for what you did, as are obviously many others. So very well done again! You deserve more. :biggrin.gif:
Is it possible that we could specify an external. gif to use for animated water/lava and so on, instead of using default animations or static textures?

Interesting, I don't believe I had a compass last night after patching. I'll give it a more thorough look once I'm home this evening though. Does it just show up in the inventory, or is there another method of accessing it?
If the patcher doesn't work, post what you did and what happened as descriptively as possible. If the patcher worked but Minecraft stops working, click the Run Minecraft button on the patcher, and after it stops/crashes/whatever, use the Copy to Clipboard button in the Log window and paste it here.
Well i click to open/run the file and nothing happens at all... thats about as descriptive i can get.
i am also using google chrome if that helps any.
Still waiting... no seriously when i double click/ right click -> open nothing comes up

Maybe we're talking about different things. The compass this patch fixes is a normal, craftable item that stops working when you use an HD texture pack.

HAH! I feel retarded. I had no idea that the compass was a craftable item.

Make sure you are using the latest version, which should be called mcpatcher-1.1.4.exe
Assuming you have a texture pack installed already and the latest version of Minecraft with no other mods:
1. download and run https://s3.amazonaws.com/minehax/mcpatcher-1.1.4.exe
2. click patch
Do you have a texture pack installed? If so which one? If not, use the Texture Pack option to install one.
It is latest version.

Can you try running it from Terminal.app? If the .jar file is in your Downloads folder, you would type something like this:
If it doesn't work please post the error message.
