Okay, I am extremely disappoint. With the patcher, and with Notch. MCPatcher 1.1.8, when applied to Minecraft Alpha 1.2.2, downgrades the client to 1.2.0_02. Meaning I can't play SMP with anything other than default textures. And when I try putting an HD texture pack in the "official" way (%appdata%/.minecraft/texturepacks), or the pre-MCPatcher way of WinRAR, Minecraft crashes at the Mojang screen, even with an un-codemodded client.
I've tried it so far with both versions of OkamiCraft (x128 and x64). If Notch put in code specifically to bork HD packs (or nerf MCPatcher), I will have fury. If you accidentally a line of code in the Patcher that resets the version number, I will have disappoint. If the entire /texturepacks folder goes kaboom even with a native-resolution pack like Painterly and not modifying the client code, I will have fury squared.
Also, I know it's not just me. Several other people in the OkamiCraft thread have had the same problem ever since Wednesday's client update.
I am extremely disappointed with you, and your inability to work out a simple problem by following instructions. And when you try to put a texture pack in the "official" way, it needs to be 16x16 not HD... HD is not "officially" supported by notch. Notch didn't "put in" code to break anything he moved files out of the top level of the Minecraft.jar into subfolders. This needed to happen at some point. Please do research and learn how to upgrade software by removing the old one first.... I'm disappointed at you for not knowing this, as it causes problems with most software especially drivers. Oh yah and did I mention how disappointing the word disappointing is to a person working for free..... you might want to find a new word like "respect" in your vocabulary.
Sounds like your just removing the exe you need to remove the minecraft.jar file in c:\users\yourname\appData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin folder and then the game will download the default jar file and you can still play, then try the patcher again you'll eventually get it right and it's worth it.
I haven't tried installing a texture pack since the latest update, so can somebody clear the situation up for me? From what I've gathered, we can only install 16x16 textures the officially way and anything higher has to be done the old way? And the patch breaks watches, compasses, and portals?
will this fix a glitch on the brown and bloom texture pack in which the blocks in the nether are running water, however they do ignite with and i can mine and stand on them

You have an outdated minecraft.original.jar in your .bin/minecraft/ directory.
Okay, I deleted minecraft.jar, minecraft.original.jar, and version, and redownloaded the whole thing from scratch. Then I ran MCPatcher. Now it's not downgrading the client to 1.2.0_02, it's making it blackscreen at the Mojang splash like before. Tried various combinations of animations toggled on/off, texture pack set to either OkamiCraft or minecraft.original.jar (preserve existing textures, just resized), etc., always at 128x128, crashed every time. The only combination I've tried that hasn't crashed Minecraft was no texture pack and textures = 16x16. And I just tested simply WinRAR-deleting META-INF from a non-patched minecraft.jar, no crash. With or without MCPatcher, it seems that x64 and x128 texture sizes will just plain crash Minecraft.

Notch could replace Minecraft.net with goatse tomorrow and never publish an update again; the only legal recourse I have is to shake my fist at the screen.
1. I now can't run Minecraft without first, running the patcher, then pressing "Run Minecraft".
2. When I do Minecraft this way, the saves I had previous to downloading this patch are gone, and I can only play this random save on world 1.
INSTRUCTIONS: (for Windows, but still similar for Macs)
Make sure Minecraft is NOT running while trying to install this pack!!
Go into: Drive C > Documents and Settings > Users > Master Account > Appdata > Roaming > .minecraft > bin
IF YOU CANT FIND APPDATA:
-Appdata is a hidden folder
-To see it, go to: Control Panel > folder options > view > show hidden files and folders (check the box)
-Then click "apply"
-Then check the Master Account folder again, it should be there
In the "bin" folder, open "Minecraft.jar" with the program "winRAR" http://www.win-rar.com/download.html
Now open "Mixcraft HD"
Highlight everything in the Mixcraft HD folder and drag it all into Minecraft.jar
A message will come up when you try to replace the files, just click OK
Next, make sure to RUN THE HD TEXTURE PATCH if you are using Mixcraft HD
Follow the instructions for running the HD Patch (included in the Mixcraft HD folder)
When you are finished, start Minecraft
(If you want to use Mixcraft Basic, just copy those files after copying the HD ones)

Here's what I did. copy your save files and put them somewhere else on your computer.
1) Delete .minecraft
2) reinstall
3) Open mincraft.jar by RIGHT CLICKING AND OPENING WITH WINRAR. (I opened by double clicking last time and I think it screwed around with the file associations).
4) replace the files with the new fancy HD ones.
5) run the patch FROM THIS PATCHER!!! http://github.com/downloads/pclewis/mcp ... -1.1.8.jar
There is something wrong with the patcher that comes with the download at the beginning of this thread I think.
6) enjoy!

I got the patcher from the first post and had issues. Then I deleted the BIN folder. Did not have issues, everything works. I think it has to do with minecraft not REALLY updating everything when you delete version? Or having a left over .jar hanging around? I dunno why, but getting rid of BIN worked. If that didn't, then I'd go for the whole 'reinstall minecraft'. Also, running the patcher using the texture pack option works for me, so I only need to open minecraft.jar to drag in a custom_water_still.
One more thing, I activated the texture pack through the 'offical' GUI. Even though it's 32x32, I figured it'd still be a good idea to do that, jsut in case. Might want to try that before running the patcher if you're still having issues. Good luck all.
I keep trying to use it but it never works. it now just reverts whatever is in minecraft.jar to what was originally in it.
Maybe i forgot how to do it properly, but it used to do it right.
Alright. I downloaded 1.1.8 hoping that it would work on my mac. I turned it on and loaded my 32x32 terrain.png. But it gave me an error:

Run it again and set it to 16x16? Or just delete your "Version" file in your .minecraft/bin folder and redownload the game.
