Hmmm all I did was move around some key files that were changed, Dirt.png was renamed and moved to background.png in the misc folder I'm assuming this is what is maybe breaking packs. Few other things moved as well

This isn't true. Dirt.png is still in the same location and my dirt.png has no problem replacing the background.

Not only that, but the misc folder doesn't even have a background.png in it.
Delete your bin folder and try again dude I just did, again for the 3rd time and still I have background.png and Unknownpack.png in my jar in the gui directory trust me I'm using the HD pack with AO right now And it is working
I'm sorry not the misc folder the GUI folder and yes it moved, he moved a few pngs outta the main jar directory
Here is a screenshot of the gui folder in minecraft.jar
I've compared all texture locations to the old ones and everything is in the same place. And yes, I'm using 1.2.2.
I'm going to delete my bin folder to redownload everything, I'll get to the bottom of this.
It's true Advize, Notch finally cleaned up the top level of the .jar. There's an environment folder now with rain and clouds and snow in it etc. Sounds liek you haven't gotten the update correctly.
Okay found the Black Screen Fix, You can patch any texture pack: Deselect Custom Water and Custom Lava, Then it works!
But still I'm not releasing my pack again without the lush water and lava ^^

Damn those computer anomalies! My version said 1.2.2, and I'd been using it all day. Forcing a fresh redownload relocated the images yet changed nothing else.

Sorry to say this doesn't fix it for me.
Actually, it does work if you first transfer/rename the appropriate files inside the new 32 texture pack.
Not sure if you can switch back to resolutions besides the one you're using.....
I used it, but now whenever I run Minecraft, (through the Downloaded application). The screen is black. There's no error. It just... won't show anything. I'm sure this happened before and I'm too lazy to look through all the replies. But I didn't see it in the list of problems on the OP. Thanks if you can help.
Gay... it wont let me play.AT ALL.this shows up:C:\Users\BRIAN\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin/minecraft.jar;C:\Users\BRIAN\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin/lwjgl.jar;C:\Users\BRIAN\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin/lwjgl_util.jar;C:\Users\BRIAN\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin/jinput.jar, -Djava.library.path=C:\Users\BRIAN\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin/natives, -Xmx1024M, -Xms512M, net.minecraft.client.Minecraft]

You can get the texture pack to work without using this. The only thing is that the water and lava aren't animated. Thats why I'm waiting to see if anyone can find a way to fix this.
