Yeah, it was Java being retarded. I'm sorry xau, I didn't meant to call you a sloppy coder. I'm so used to modders being sloppy as ****.
There used to be a day when you could feasibly know how a computer works really well, and could troubleshoot almost any problem quickly, because you knew pretty much everything the machine was doing. That was back in the days of DOS, and those days are long gone, I'm afraid.
Today, computers and OSes and everything else is just very complex, and even a brilliant mind is gonna have troubles figuring out the entire thing. There's literally more code in Windows than anybody could type in a single lifetime, thanks to the large numbers of programmers developing it, and other OSes aren't much better. Things like automatic updates happen, as you have just experienced.
Troubleshooting just isn't as easy as it used to be :sad.gif:.
Yeah, I still can't figure out how to get steam to work. All non-steam games work fine, but every game that I have through steam crashes on startup. I have completely removed all files. Even registry stuff. EVERYTHING. I have completely wiped steam from my system and all steam files, yet still all the games crash on startup if they're run through steam.
It had the same weird problem too. It happened as soon as my sega emulator glitched out and crashed my game.
The saddest part of the matter is, Steam kept me from pirating, now I have to pirate, because I can't buy things through steam now. The steam tech support guys can't figure it out either, and they've given up.
How do you install the texture fix *without* the bettergrass mod? I don't like it to begin with, and this issue makes it unbearably ugly.
Uncheck its box in the patcher?
Hell, it's not even checked by default...
Yeah, after being told that by several people, I've figured out why I was confused.
Today when I looked at the current features list for 1.1.7, I looked at the screenshot in that first post, which does NOT show a checkbox for BetterGrass, and - having forgotten what it looked like the one other time I ran it - assumed that the screenshot reflected the current version. And we all know what happens when you assume.
This worked amazingly well, but I have one question,
I'm on OSX 10.6 (snow leopard). I just tried it for Nickhimself's HD pack, and it worked like a charm, but it turned the original minecraft app to the HD texture. For low res textures, you just have to copy and paste the minecraft app, and put it into the texture folder, so you can have many texture packs at once, at your fingertips, as well as the original texture. Is there a way for me to have the original, and multiple patched HD packs at the same time? (ie. i want the original texture, nickhimself's patched, and Dokus RPG patched, on my computer at the same time). This would be REALLY helpful. Thanks!
Here's the deal. I can get the HD Texture Fix & Simple Map to work with a 64x texture pack & like 20+ mods. The only problem is the HD Texture Fix makes it so that the tops of my grass blocks, and every side of my leaf blocks are all pitch freaking black. Better Grass even works right and the grass appears the correct color on the side of the blocks, but the top is still black.
Help me out please. I'm going to take a nap for a few hours, see if you can come up with a solution by then. Laterz.

Check minecraft.jar\misc\ and see if foliagecolor.png and grasscolor.png have gradients in them.
My leaves and grass turned completely black when I tried to make those transparent, turns out, the way to make them transparent is to make them all white.
I'm getting stuck on 81% for the Brown and Bloom pack with "Reading terrain.png":
????
The applet is running out of allocated memory. You can get around this by running it via command line, with extra memory assigned. To do this, open a command line interface (Command Prompt on a PC, terminal on Mac or Linux), change your directory to whatever directory you've put mcpatcher-1.1.7.jar in, and then run it by typing:
java -jar -Xmx256m mcpatcher-1.1.7.jar
And then use the program normally; this time, it should complete. If you are working with a very large texture pack, and it gets further but still stops on reading the terrain file with the above command, substitute 512m for 256m.

If you run Xau's HD texture fix patcher and 'Patch' with NO texture pack chosen, it will restore the original game textures from the backup it made of the original install (assuming you started with a clean install with no textures applied). Note that the patcher handles 'low-res' 16x16 texture packs just fine, they don't need to be HD. I keep a directory containing all my texture pack archives, both low-res and HD, so I can easily switch between them, and if I want to check the looks of a build in the original game textures, I patch with no texture selected.
First time posting and sorry to pester but i was wondering if there is an issue with the new clock showing up when using any res. larger then the 16x16. I lose site of it when i use the HD texture fix.
Seems its either a strange shape or invisible all together.
Thank you for your time. If it has already been talked about sorry, i haven't had much luck finding info on it.
Always read the opening post, Xau updates it every time he does something, and at least the last week or so of the thread - 90% of the questions people ask have been answered within the last few days.
Portal anim is a known bug, as is clock not showing correctly, BOTH are listed as issues in the OP. They are being worked on, and will be finished when they are finished. Faster, if Xau doesn't have to stop to read and answer questions that have already been answered every fifteen or twenty posts. Believe me, I want them every bit as badly as you do - and none of us probably as badly as Xau does. :smile.gif:
mcpatcher DOES work with 1.2.1_01, and does NOT revert you back to an older version UNLESS you had an old version as the mcpatcher backup jar in your bin subdirectory. If you failed to clear the old data from your directory and are now stuck with an older version of the executable, you can fix this by deleting your %APPDATA%/.minecraft/bin subdirectory (~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/bin in OSX) to completely get rid of any traces of the old code, run the Minecraft executable at least once to update the core files to the latest version (this will require an internet connection), and then repatch. Yes, you will have to reinstall any mods, but if you're stuck with out of date core files, you'd have to do this anyway, even if you updated by hand.
Redwuff , wow thanks for the amazing answer and the time you took to do it.
As i said, i had looked but sadly i only looked at the last five pages of the topic. should i have looked at the first page more, yes.
As for slowing down Xau to get an answer, i didn't expect Xau to answer me, i asked a group of people who frequent this topic.

Sorry if it came out sounding harsher than I intended, it wasn't directed solely or even mostly at you, it was just seeing a entire string of questions and comments of things that were mostly covered in the opening post or which had been answered over and over and over made me a touch acerbic. :smile.gif:
Also, Xau actually seems to track this thread quite closely, and personally answers a LOT of questions, so anything some of the rest of us can take off of him will hopefully get us another patch that much sooner. So, I'm not a modder, and it's not my mod, but if there's anything I or others /can/ help you with, please, feel free to ask.

I mean precisely what I said, that's why I chose the words.

I can't even run Half-Life.

Perhaps the screenshot could be updated?

So this effectively gets rid of all the bug fixes that came with the 1.2.1_01 patch.
Seems its either a strange shape or invisible all together.

This does nothing to the game version.
You are applying the patch to an old JAR.
