First off, forgive me if this has been covered in the previous 17-18 pages. I would use the Search function but have no clue what to even type in as I'm not getting a code error or anything, just personal ignorance I suppose.
I have no problem running the game by selecting which texture pack to use, 32x32, and checking off the appropriate boxes. No errors, everything runs smoothly, and all the textures work.
However, I used the .zip folder on my Desktop for the Texture Pack field (it's Glimmar's new Steampunk HD texture pack). The cart and sign images (.png files) do not load in when doing this. I then placed them in the .jar file as instructed with the texture pack, and while nothing glitches, the Patcher seems to want to default back to 16x16, and uses the "minecraft.original.jar" file. When I replaced it with the "minecraft.jar" file, I get either a constant 0% on the progress bar (ie: nothing happens), or this message:
The compression used in this zip file is not supported. Please install the texture pack manually, or repackage it as a .jar or .rar file.
While writing this I tried to simply open Minecraft as-is (with the textures copied in, but without patching). My game now refuses to load all the way. It says "Updating Minecraft -- Done Loading", but the bar isn't full loaded and the screen freezes there.
I'm certainly not blaming anyone (the patcher nor the pack), though I did notice that my Minecraft.jar file is only 43 bytes, while the .original.jar file (and the Copy) are around 1.7 MB.
Basically I'm looking to see if I've done something wrong with a simple fix, or if because the pack is new there might possibly be something off. Or, if as I'll be doing, I should just not worry about the cart and sign textures, as Halloween is coming soon and everything will glitch anyway :S
If you're using the Patcher, I'm pretty sure you're going to need to forgo the instructions in the texture archive (the .zip/.rar). The patcher will do all the work for you. Redownload a clean .jar file and let the patcher do the work for you.
Sounds good :smile.gif: I'll probably forgo the redownload until Sunday, since I can get it to run fine if I patch first. Thanks again.
Update: Just redownloaded the entire thing (after saving my Saves folder) and manually added the Cart and Sign textures, and they work properly now. I'm still unable to get the fire to show up as Glimmar's fire. It's the default fire... whatever it is/wherever it's saved.

The stack trace is helpful though, so I will double check to see if there's anything I can fix. Do you have animations disabled? Or custom? Please try with normal animations (i.e. top row of boxes checked, bottom row unchecked) and see if it works.
I, too am receiving the same error, only running as administrator hasn't worked for me. I've tried enabling Adaptive Anti-Aliasing as well as OpenGL Triple Buffer in Catalyst 10.9, however I get the same result. Patching 128x128 works fine... I'm running a Radeon 5870 and the patcher spits the following, even if not using a texture pack, when selecting 256x256, and with or without any/all optional water/lava boxes ticked:

ok i was seeing if the patcher was cool, it was , okay this is what happened. Once i downloaded or installed whatever its called, i patched the game then checked it out and every time i hit fire my screen turned purple, i couldnt die, and wen i went back into the game after i exited, every block of fire/lava said fire texture, hollowed out with a purple inside. i tried to take it off and patch it, but it never works so im about to give up with minecraft forever untill it is fixed please help me.
Thanks for the update, but when I run the jar version in OS X 10.5.8, MCPatcher shows up as an icon on the dock, but it seems to do nothing after that point (though it does create minecraft.original.jar in my bin folder). The previous version worked for me.
worked for me mostly... having issues with the watch. it is the graphic of the boots i think... its kinda glitched

Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity.
Which brings me to my final question: how do I make lava 'animate' (not scroll, but change color while still)
This is actually explained in the first post...

New custom water/lava animation options for artists: if there are files called custom_water_still.png, custom_water_flowing.png, custom_lava_still.png, or custom_lava_flowing.png, each square going downwards will be used as a frame in the animation. For example, a 32x128 image would have 4 frames.
Tell me if you have trouble understanding this, and I will explain
Thank you much!!! Exactly what I as looking for. Now I jsut gotta redo all my custom grass/leaves b/c of the update.. :/.

Here is an experimental update that should work with the latest minecraft update:
THIS MAY BREAK MINECRAFT IN HORRIBLE AND UNPREDICTABLE WAYS, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
http://github.com/downloads/pclewis/mcp ... -1.1.7.exe
http://github.com/downloads/pclewis/mcp ... -1.1.7.jar
You MUST delete your old minecraft.original.jar for the patcher to load the new version. I'll make it smarter about it later.
BetterGrass behaves weird, probably because of biome grass coloring.
Bracing for impact.
Edit: Wahey! It worked. No more water-hell.
Edit2: Well, the sound is REALLY choppy. But it's all the new sounds, mostly. Portal etc.
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!
THANKS!
I couldn't stand reverting back to original texture after the update but now I can use my texture pack again! Wooooot.
I agree as well. Mostly because I love having a texture pack that only ~5 people have anyway.

Curse PremiumNot really a pack, just something I made. It's a 32x32 version of standard textures.
What does Better Grass do, anyway? I didn't notice any changes.
Also, I learned the choppy sound is how default Minecraft sounds anyway.
Oh boy.
Does animate the fire/lava textures included in packs that don't work, or does it just override them with animated vanilla fire/lava?
Also, if I use the new update with old Doku's, will I be screwing up my game? I want to play but vanilla makes me sad.
same problem
everything else is fine though
Thank you much!!! Exactly what I as looking for. Now I jsut gotta redo all my custom grass/leaves b/c of the update.. :/.

Select the grass, and leaves.
Click Adjustments.
Click "Black and White."
Done.
Aye. Better grass is necessary now that I've grown used to it. Especially for Snow Biomes.
heres a pic of how the watch is showing up (in red)
