Ah, I completely missed those posts; my apologies.
I did muck around a whole bunch, but none of the config options I tried seemed to matter. Then, out of sheer annoyance, I put everything back as it was in my first post and ran minecraft as an administrator and it worked. (erm, WTF?)
Sorry, I know that's almost completely useless, but it sure made me twitch when it worked.
I have a problem. I am using win7 and the .exe file won't even launch. When I double click it or just run it in any other way, nothing happens, except in the process menu on the task manager a java application comes up but nothing else happens.. I have tried running it as admin or using compatibility with win xp, still no hope. I also tried the previous versions and the .jar and that still didn't work. Help please.
I thought -Xms512m -Xmx1024m was what the launcher sets already - what'd they change it to?

You will need to run the .jar file from the command prompt (java -jar mcpatcher-1.1.5.jar) to see what's wrong.
Starting up SoundSystem...
Initializing LWJGL OpenAL

OpenAL initialized.
########## GL ERROR ##########

1285: Out of memory
This is using the same texture pack as you in your post, the one by nickhimself.
Possibly add an option to set Xmx?
EDIT: Just tried launching manually, but I continually get:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Could not create the Java virtual machine.
Trying to let it use 2G, Have about 4G spare when trying to run.
Any ideas?
So I download the patcher "mcpatcher-1.1.5.exe"
Download SMP's_Texture_Pack
run the patcher, it pulls up my info perfectly.
Click "Texture Pack" choose SMP's_Texture_Pack.zip
then I get this in the the log window.

I have check the zip file it is good, and sound. can access the files just fine.
So I choose a different map pack "Mixcraft v11 Pack" and get the error "Couldn't create backup
" after it loaded and click patch.
So i move the location to my G: drive and still same error.
Really nice, but at first I thought the coal was mossy cobblestone, and I don't like all of the ores in general (Coal, Gold, Diamond and Iron) since it looks like plants or something.
Here's the error I get when launching the .jar from CMD. I've gotten this error with most .jars lately, I have the lastest java version out, and reinstalling java completely has never fixed it. I had hey0 fix persistor.jar for me somehow a while back, so it should be fixable somehow.
Let me know what you make of it. MUCH appreciated!

Google says messing with your cleartype settings using ClearType Tuner might fix it for you.

Windows 7 users should use the built-in ClearType tuner found in the Windows Control Panel under Appearance and Personalization to adjust their ClearType settings.
However, will it be possible to have static water(leveled water, no flowing) move slowly diagonally, to give it a little life? And alternatively like I mentioned, maybe some way to use .gif for custom animations?
Using a .gif is extremely unlikely. However I might make it use a row of tiles on terrain.png for custom animations, if some (good) texture artists are interested and make sample files.
I kind of threw it together, as I don't want to work on a "good" animation if it's not possible. Should be enough to test with, no?
So I have the Brown and Bloom texture working on my minecraft. I also have the weapons and armor from the last texture i dled still on there, think itwas the standard HD one or whatever.
I dled the patcher and it filled the fields in right as i can tell but I cannot get it to work. When i click patch it just says "couldn't create backup" it is kind of annoying having a flaming brick tower... these are the fields i have filled in.

This works great for waterfalls and lavafalls, but makes everything else look really ugly. First, any block that's completely filled with water is not animated at all. If you're standing on a beach, or something, this looks very unnatural. All water should have a little animation, kind of like the original textures do.
Second, it will take twice as much lava to fill any moat, or anything else, since only the "source" lava blocks are animated. Most people use the method of placing one block of lava, then skipping one block, then placing another, as it will naturally fill in the space between. With this patch installed, it'll appear as one block of lava animated, one still, the next animated, etc. Looks terrible.
Even if you took to time and resources needed to fill every single block with it's own lava, there's still the problem of each block flowing a different way. This problem is for both lava, and any non-infinite water block (the only water blocks that have animation). No matter how many times I pick up and replace the water/lava, I can't get all of it to be flowing in the same direction.
Nice try. The waterfalls look really nice with this patch, but it's not worth making everything else look so bad.

no seriously, this is mod/fix i have been wanting the most
[edit] my god, this building used be to covered in 'flaming' blocks, now i can look at it without my eyes exploding.
But IMO, the speed of the lava flow w/ a custom texture is way too fast. I'm not certain if this was intentional, or if it can be slowed a bit.
Amazing work, thanks.

We had an issue with 2 players on our server crashing when using this and fixed it our selves by allocating MORE ram at startup to the client.
Launch Minecraft Client with more ram
Hope it helps a few player who have the same issue.
It sounds like it's working for other people. I haven't tried it.
I'll add an option in the next version maybe. You can make it look slower by choosing a higher texture res, but water will go the same speed.

I couldn't find the exact cleartype contrast setting as in that picture, but I just disabled it and it worked! Bravo!
Excited to see my custom colored water/lava again and work on making a texture for its current.
Thanks!
