Ok, I seriously need help getting this to work. I've now installed Mcpatcher 1.1.5, put it into my .minecraft folder. I'm basically just using it to patch Doku's texture pack in, with a few modifications to that texture pack. It is re-zipped. I'm running windows 7 is that makes a difference. And this is what happens:
And then it stops. It's quite fast up until that point but just... freezes. It's at the 18% mark. No matter what I try... not creating a backup, changing the output, re-downloading the original bin folders... nothing works. Anyone know what I could possibly do to fix this? If you need additional info, lemme know, I'll happily provide it.
Can be a bit of a pain in the ass getting it to work. I had to make my own backup/original copies and such, as it was bugging out. Can't patch to the same original, meaning you end up having to have 3 copies of the .jar just to patch(one for the original, one for the desired patched version, and one with the texture pack)... and backup still doesn't seem to work. Is there any reason why all that needs to be done, instead of just patching directly to an already textured jar? Does it really need an original and output? My ideal setup would be picking an already textured .jar and patching directly to it. No original or output needed.
Still, awesome! :biggrin.gif: However, will it be possible to have static water(leveled water, no flowing) move slowly diagonally, to give it a little life? And alternatively like I mentioned, maybe some way to use .gif for custom animations?
Very nice, it's great to be able to see the water/lava textures some people have worked on the way they were intended. I've only just tried it to be sure it worked, but the only problem I had was with the sound. It seems like some sounds are being delayed? Fighting a creeper, thought I heard "ssss" but he wasn't flashing or anything, kept fighting and he blew up with no explosion sound. Is there any way possible this has something to do with the mod?
Anyway, this is great, thanks a lot :biggrin.gif:

Ok, in response to dustyshouri's response, I tried some things out. I made a copy of the minecraft.jar file and put it somewhere else to test on it, changed the output to a new name, and left out the backup.
It still didn't work.
However, I then tried it with Doku's original texture pack, and it worked! I then took my modified Doku's files and placed them in the newly patched minecraft.jar and... presto! My modified Doku's texture pack works great! I don't know why it wouldn't accept my zipped folder, containing everything that Doku's does but the png's are modified. Oh well, at least it works. It'll be a pain tho whenever Minecraft gets updated. I hope this discovery helps someone out there.

You can patch to an already textured jar (original/output/texture pack all the same file), *IF* you have making a backup enabled. This is what it does by default as long as it finds your minecraft.jar. Afterward, if you use the default names, it will use the backup as the original/input, and won't create another backup. The main reason for this is that the patcher can't re-patch an already patched version, so if you want to switch texture packs or change options later you need the original.

Using a .gif is extremely unlikely. However I might make it use a row of tiles on terrain.png for custom animations, if some (good) texture artists are interested and make sample files.

It's possible but unlikely. None of the files the patcher changes have anything to do with sound. I ran up and punched a bunch of creepers on my test saves and they all behaved and sounded normal. You might try holding F3 and pressing S while playing to reload the sounds.

Should we even bother backing anything up since if you delete the VERSION file it just auto redownloads all the files you need anyways?
See other response above. There's no reason not to, but feel free to uncheck the backup box. The patcher reads and writes at the same time though so you won't be able to patch in-place. I may change it in a future version.

Well, it seems the Java version I'm using is 1.6.0_21. As for posting the zip, I honestly don't know how. Do I have to host it somewhere? Is there a simple free site I can use? Sorry for the n00b questions.

I am interested, but the reason I recommended gif is because using a template is not that simple. Different types of water will have different types of animation, and would require a different amount of frames.
OP, if you can make this mod work for hd items as well (maybe a second tab with item options), then i will love you forever.
What is not working about HD items?
the compass has no needle, and i dont know, but i think its because the needle goes in the bottom right corner, and when the items get resized, it probably ends up in the middle.
Exactly HOW are the water and lava textures used, there are five after all.
The five tiles are not for animation, which I originally thought when I saw them... nor are they used for different faces. They're actually used for the textures of various flows. The first one is static water with no flow, and the rest are for flowing water, like waterfalls.
Well, I think I know why my sound is messing up. For some reason the version keeps reverting to 1.1.0, when that sound bug was happening. Takes away the music/sound sliders and no sneaking! Not really sure what the reason is though.

Maybe its your backup file. Erase it then erase the Version file in the Bin folder. Start up minecraft let it download everything again then exit and install your texture set then patch it again and see if that works.
You are missing water.png. Put it back.
Thanks for the quick reply.

Please post the zip you were trying to use, and what version of Java you are running (http://www.javatester.org/version.html might help).

Try http://www.megaupload.com/ or http://www.mediafire.com/
Please be sure to post the actual .zip you were trying to use, and not the individual images or a .7z or anything else.
I can't really do any better than the how to in the first post.
