If Notch wanted Minecraft to be a high resolution, appearance detailed game, he would have made it as such. the 16x16 textures and graphics add something to the experience for many folks; asking him to provide support for something that stands in stark contrast to this would be akin to demanding Microsoft add the Macintosh OS X Dock to Windows 7.
There are a lot of presumed entitlement issues in that thread.
Please this patch 1.3 could really be what pushes him to add it if people are vocal enough.

God, that is such a ridiculous oversimplification! Makes me want to scream! Basic capitalist and economic theory would tell you that if Notch ignores the 60-70% of his customer base that DO use HD TEXTURES, some other entrepreneur/programmer/etc. will come along and do Minecraft better, and give the audience what they're asking for. People can make all the intellectual property arguments they like (and this and that about Notch intends the game to be), but the bottomline is that if people want it bad enough, the market will find a way to give to him. So you can sit on your high horse saying "Notch didn't intend the game to be that way, so stop whining", but first I think you'd better realize you're the one in the minority, and many people who play Minecraft are using some sort of HD Texture pack.
Is there any way to monitor the progress of a MCPatcher update? Like maybe follow Xau in Twitter or something? Dying to get my HD Textures working again!
HD doesn't mean realistic, why my PokeCraft 32x (viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=145867) is far from it. Im sure many of my users are waiting for the next update, as am I.

First, to say that those that prefer the simplistic graphics are the minority is purely opinionated and unrealized. No where is there proof to support that claim. Or vice versa for that matter. And 60-70% use HD textures for this game? That's another over-rationalization. I see way more Live Streams and Youtube videos from users that use basic graphics over the high-res ones. I alternate between the two just for a change of pace every now and then, but primarily it's the default set I use. Second, assuming somebody else comes along and does decide to make Minecraft better and release there own version of it, I believe that would be copyright infringement unless Notch has given them the ok to do so. And I don't really see a "better" version of Minecraft being produced by somebody else until Notch makes the game open source which is going to be a long while from now I suspect. If you prefer using an HD texture set, then by all means go ahead, but don't go around demanding that developers cater to your demands. Every developer, designer, artist, etc., has their own vision of what they want the product, item, artwork, etc., to be. We have no right to say that it should be otherwise. Imagine what some of the greatest artwork, products, and designs throughout history would have turned into had the original artist or designer actually listened to outside feedback and not their own. Not so great for the most part.
Without quoting the quote in a quote.. in a quote?
I must say, I switch between packs all the time, to text stuff out, but they all need the HD fix. Almost all texture packs that are actually a step up for minecraft graphics need HD. It would be great if Notch added an HD thing into the game, but realistically, many people can't even use texture packs due to lag, and some just don't like to. it would be amazing for many of us, but there a large number of people that wouldn't benefit due to extra lag, etc.
And I don't really see a "better" version of Minecraft being produced by somebody else until Notch makes the game open source which is going to be a long while from now I suspect.

New update comes out and I lose my pretty textures!
I had been using the LB Photo Realism pack, and it went away after Beta 1.3 was applied. And now I can't get it back installed. The patcher tells me that something is wrong with the .jar file.
Please this patch 1.3 could really be what pushes him to add it if people are vocal enough.
I was expecting to go there and see a bunch of the usual "fix it nao or I'll ragequit posts", but there is actually a very intelligent debate going on on that thread. The quality of the players of this community give me a little hope back after so many years of the W.o.W. forums.

Umm...like I said...you can say whatever you want about copyright infringement, intellectual property, whatever; that won't stop the masses from getting what they truly want. Case in point: Apple products and the massive and growing hacking community that provides their apps that make the Apple products better and profit off of it.
I'm not saying it's right or wrong, because honestly, I'd hate to be an artist in today's environment; but the reality is that basic copyright infringement legislation is ineffective.
Also, as evidenced by the over 700,000 hits to the HD Texture threads, I'd say many of the Minecraft players are using HD Textures or trying them. Also, I know the ever-popular Simon and Lewis (who you undoubtedly referred to in your videos reference) have dabbled with some different textures and Mods that can only be done via the patcher.
Oh, and when you start charging people for your product, the consumer has EVERY RIGHT to demand things of the developers. EVERY RIGHT.
Even if he is, I agree with him.
