haha, no worries. it sounds like you spent all weekend staring at a bunch of nearly-identical 32x32 tiles... no one could blame you for not wanting to even think about them for a while
if you don't mind, I might try 'chopping in some darker masks over the offending frames to see if that makes things any smoother (or if it just makes the animation too flat). I'll post the results here if they're worth sharing.
I have been perusing through your textures and I think that they are fantastic, I was just wondering how you are coming along with the items? They were looking pretty awesome too.
I kind of jump here and there as I work. The problem with the items is that I haven't decided if I want to stay with double resolution or keep it at the standard resolution. The HD Patch does fix the problem with higher resolution 3D renders, but there are still some white lines and such that show up that are somewhat distracting. Diamond designs are also pretty hard, I may just make the weapons famous ones, like the Master Sword for the Diamond Sword... but that might not be everyones cup of tea.
You could just use existing work and make them high res.
for example,
see how your gold sword and shovel makes the others look blocky? I would love to see the other items made into high resolution...
ok, this is a quick and sloppy edit of dusty's water animation (original post here). I just threw it together to see what would happen

all I did was slightly mute/mask the sharpest highlights that were "popping" a lot, but I think it helps with the most distracting patterning when it's tiled. the peaks kind of pulse in and out more uniformly with the rest of the waves. thoughts?
I absolutely LOVE tis pack and you can bet that as soon as it's done I'll be installing it :biggrin.gif: I even ran the HD texture patch (finally) in order to be ready for it!
All I can ask is PLEASE PLEASE hang in there with the items! the shovels, swords and picks look INCREDIBLE! I can't imagine what the rest of the items would look like :biggrin.gif:
I'm currently using your inventory screen, BTW :wink.gif:

[SSSS].......... MA-BA-SPLOOO!!
terribly impatient, so I made some custom water pngs based on the gif preview dusty posted (not going to post them here) and finally figured out how to get it working ingame with xau's patcher. first impressions:
- it's bloody gorgeous
- animation is smooth, but quite fast... maybe i should have doubled up the frames in the custom_water pngs to give it more delay (i just went with 32, the number of unique frames in the gif)
- waves aren't really too distracting, though some noticable line patterns do emerge when tiled on a large body of water (probably unavoidable)
- needed to set the file to around 50-60% transparency to avoid getting too much of a headache-inducing scrolling moire pattern at a distance
- flowing water doesn't appear to flow in the correct direction (i probably just screwed up inserting the frames in custom_water_flowing.png)
I'll wait for the official release of the animations before actually using them fulltime, but so far, I'm really impressed. dusty owns, minecraft owns, everything owns
It looks bloody dam fine to me . One of the better packs imo . Let's see if you've got what it takes to knock quandary off my list . (: A friendly advice ... it's not gonna be easy :tongue.gif:
could u make a version were the cobblestone doesn't look like bricks... its just a personal dislike of mine (obviosly you have to finish the actual thing first but hey afterward would u be willing?
you can just save the picture as terrain.png and put it in your minecraft.jar .

oh and this too please w/ increasing transparency of water (: like he said, you don't have to do it now but will you do later ?

Indeed, you can do that. If people want the current zip of it I can post it, though it is unfinished.

Maybe. The problem with changing cobblestone is that the natural stone already has a cobblestone-like appearance. Even if it doesn't look like cobblestone, the pattern would be similar in nature, and I want to try to avoid similarities like that as I find it important to tell what things are at a glance.
As for water, which water is being discussed here? The pre-animation water? Because I thought that was too transparent. Either way it can be easily changed if it needs to be.
Currently I am working on the item pack, though I really should finish off the terrain.
Looking good man, I'm psyched to see what it'll look like at 100%
The only thing that gets me is the diamond. Maybe a bit more of a blue hue to it. Thats just me though man. I can always tweak myself when your done.

Firstly, i want to say thank you (:
Secondly, if natural stones have a cobblestone like appearance then shouldnt you change cobblestone's texture then ? because you said you want to avoid similarities .
thirdly, I don't know which water i'm talking about . It's when you try and look in the ocean, you can't see anything at all . when you go into the water and try "Swimming", you can't see anything . well at least not for me . so a lighter alternate terrain would be nice (:

fourthly, yes a zip/rar pack would be nice too .
You're welcome :smile.gif:
Well, the thing is the natural stone doesn't look like cobblestone... it looks like rough rocks. BUT it has a similar pattern to cobblestone, that is a bunch of nearly-round rocks forming one object. So the problem is that I can't exchange the texture, but if I were to add actual cobblestone(much like what is on the front of the furnace) it'd look similar at a glance(or from far away). The only solution would be to make a new natural rock, and to be honest I really like the feeling the current one gives :sad.gif: I mean... I guess I could use the natural rock texture as cobblestone, but then I'd have to replace the natural rock and currently I have no ideas.
Sadly I can't take a screenshot of the water used in the terrain as it's currently running the custom animated water, though I was sure the terrain water was fairly transparent(I had considered making it more opaque). Either way, I will address all problems with the animated water now.
Sure thing, I will pack up a zip and instructions probably tomorrow.

And I love that water, Tombones.
thanks (i want to make clear again though that dustyshouri made the awesome water animation, I just did a quick lazy edit of it)
