How about something that is fulled carved from diamond ? and i still don't get how diamond = cyan . but yeah, for example, a sword made of pure diamond i.e. someone carved a sword out of a huge block of diamond would be cool . i think >.>
one more question, if you wanted to make a diamond sword resemble the master sword, i'm guessing you got the designs for the other swords from something as well ?
Also, i don't see what's wrong with a diamond pick / shovel that looks SIMILAR to the other picks / shovels . because thats pretty much what you did with stone, iron and gold and of course, change the texture abit . then you could use your master sword . then find/create some nice looking design for the axe and the hoe .
and besides, diamond shovels / picks / axes / hoes are abit unrealistic . even gold for that matter . but this is minecraft and everything is possible (:
The designs up there I came up with as I was working on them. The only reason I wanted the diamond sword as a Master sword was for Easter egg purposes, and because I couldn't come up with anything for a diamond sword, and thought it'd be cool to throw in easter eggs for each item. Colorwise they'd probably be more white than anything, and most likely very blue(like the diamond item itself).
Also, it's not that it's unrealistic that's the problem, but that I'm having a hard time coming up with any sort of design involving diamond. The sword would probably be easy enough, but when it comes down to shovels and pick axes and such is when things get a little complicated.
If I'm going to do diamond items, I'm going to make them worth it. There's nothing worse than going through the trouble of getting a 'rare' item and finding out it looks ugly. I remember the last sword in Dark Cloud 2 was an ugly ass tribal circular saw or something:
It pretty much ruined the sword for me, even though it had the top stats in the game. I went and got the second-best sword.
I get what you mean . Well i'm not helping you in anyway whatsoever so i think i'll stop contributing to your burden (: i'll see if i can come up with something to help you .
I actually created / registered an account on the forums *just* so that I could thank Dusty for the hard work. I just discovered this pack, and I'm a true believer. It's got serious legs, and I'm switching over to it right now.
Thanks, seriously. It's hard to do pixel art, especially when you're not limited in your color pallet. There's constant temptation to reach for photorealism, but that destroys the synesthetic audiovisual language of the game. Dusty, your work here carefully treads that line, and borders on "pure rock".
As an aside, BoingBoing ran a FANTASTIC article this spring on the synesthetic language of video games, and it's totally worth reading, especially if you're interested in pixel art. http://boingboing.net/features/morerock.html
Some nice additions on the items.png Dusty. Any plans to do your own armor skins later on?
It was one of the first things I had attempted and it didn't turn out well, and I haven't attempted yet. I want to soon though, and hopefully it doesn't get the best of me. I still need to figure out the sequence before I start though as to the different types of armor.
Again, I feel obligated to always thank you guys for your criticism, kind words and support :smile.gif:
Okay, I've revisited the paintings, and the concept is the same. All pixel art by some amazing artists. Sadly I had to drop some of my favorites because of the size limitations(much smaller than the last size I had that didn't work), but the replacements are just as great, in my opinion. There's really way too many awesome pixel pieces out there, and it's not a matter of one being better than the other but what I can remember and what I can find in a reasonable amount of time(it takes a surprising amount of time to find the art and copy/paste it). Of course a lot of the actual piece is missing due to cropping, but now it comes down to hopefully people being interested in the paintings and visiting the artists page to see the full piece.
As for iron vs. diamond, I'm sorry. I have tweaked and tweaked the colors of those ores over and over and now the diamond is nearly all solid white. I don't know how to adjust it anymore. Maybe I'll darken iron, but then it may be hard to see against the stone background.
You should make diamond a light bluish color, and remove those 2 excess wooden planks from the curved railroad.
As for the paintings I think the Curiosity one looked better as 3x4 :c
They are blue, though I remember making them bluer than they currently are. Maybe I lost the color change somehow. However it doesn't help that much. One, because caves are low-light even with torches things tend to get washed out. Secondly, blue and gray are very close visually. No matter how much blue I add they might still give you the same impression at first glance.
Okay, added my own frames and replaced the back texture of the paintings with some filler. I've also updated the original post with the new zip and a screenshot of the paintings:
Ah... pixely goodness.
Also, don't think I'm ignoring comments about some things. Color edits and such will most likely come last as I'm pretty comfortable with the palette/colors I'm using and I don't want to start switching anything up until I'm done with the actual pixelling.
wouldnt it be logical that iron ore is slightly orange
since iron rusts and its moist underground so
it would solve the color problem quite easly
making iron look all silvery looks sorta strange... cuz iron aint silver...
or atleast not when its a piece of ore in a mountain
it would be more in tune with the original its color setup aswell
tbh u should try to keep the colors of most blocks in the game as close as to the original as possible since future added blocks might force u to recolor them then anyways
who knows maybe notch will deside to add silver ore soon and then ur fcked :tongue.gif:
same reason being i wasnt to funned or ur normal rock
next to that im quite in love with ur textures
so keep up the good work ^^
Iron ore can range anywhere from a metallic silver colour to a dark reddish brown. Sometimes it's very obviously a metal, and other times iron ore can look simply like a rock. Depends on the location around the globe among other variables. Dusty is correct in his depiction of iron, and yours is too.
Well not the rusting part...but it can be orange in colour.
I like the idea of making iron more reddish, though I have to be careful to not have it blend too easily with the brown rocks. I'll see what I can do, thanks for the suggestion :smile.gif: Though I'll admit when I see red/brown I don't think of iron, but at this point there are priorities, and readability is at the top.

How's this work? IMAGE
I think it looks good. It's faithful to the original texture, while being radically different. Good work (:

and that sword is ugly . lol .

It wasn't just you, I went and recolored them entirely. Now I have no problems telling them apart.
Anyways, again, from left to right(and then downwards), credits!

It's not really dark and gloomy haha. It's actually quite bright compared to most texture packs.
