Will the texture rotator be updated in someway to work with the official update?
As bonemouse reported, the rotator will continue to work after the official update. You just need to update your file structure as kamiawolf explains in the post above.
EDIT: I learned more about what this update has changed. You can now alter the line:
skin:default
in your options.txt file in your .minecraft directory, to switch between installed texture packs. No guarantees, but I could release an "update" that switches the method to just altering that text file, instead of using the old more complex method, which requires installing texture packs to your /bin folder. Does anyone want that? Or are we past needing it to be automated, with our new found easy selector?
EDIT: This was wrong. Disregard please. Jonathanbloom, the file structure changed in the last patch. You're seeing minecraft's default grasscolor.png overlaid on Quandary. To fix it, move the Quandary grasscolor.png and foliagecolor.png files from /misc to /environment .

The position of grasscolor.png and foliagecolor.png hasn't changed. Those two files are just broken right now along with the one for the watch. You have to manually apply them by hand to the minecraft.jar if you want the biome colors to stick.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
Quandary 3.0.1 is out, so it's easier to use with the new update. Just download, open, and drop the seasonal zips that you want into your Textures folder, then load them in the game.
I'll be getting the thumbnails and descriptions fixed soon (maybe today?)!
Dont forget to move the clouds and snow to the new environment folder and the char to the mobs folder. not sure it they will work otherwise.
How do we do this?
Is there some way all this, quandary/rotator could be automatic? I hate messing with the file structures.

I prefer the automation, really. A rewrite to work with the selector would be a faster solution, but you should know that in addition to the grass and foliage colors being broken, the menu also only shows a maximum of four packs, so this would also be an ineffective solution for those of us who prefer a monthly system.
Additionally, in experimenting, I noticed that rotator natively inherits the 365 day calendar year if you place 365 entries in your config file. I'm not sure if this is intentional, but it's interesting. However, it would need to be modified for leap years, which got me thinking about a possible annual release where the month could be checked rather than the date and the corresponding month could be applied. You could even expand the idea to include holiday exceptions where only specific dates could override the month where the logic would look like if today=Oct31, halloween.zip, else if today=Dec25, xmakwanzucca.zip, else month.
EDIT: Also, are you sure...
I just figured out what the problem was. There was a file that wasn't injecting right. Not sure what was wrong with it, but I took it back in to Photoshop and pasted it in to a new document, saved it fresh, and it works fine. It wasn't a problem before, so I'm not sure why it was a problem now, but it's fixed, so I won't worry about it.

I had built a handy tool that automates the process, running Rotator and then automatically loading Minecraft, but since the last update broke Rotator, at least for me, I can't distribute anything until I know it's safe to use.
From my above edit, I figured out where the problem was, so you can feel safe using this now. It comes with a handy splash screen so you know when Rotator is working and roughly when it's finished. I've got an SATA drive, so I'm not sure if the timing on an ATA drive will impact load time, but it shouldn't break anything. This comes preloaded for a 365 day calendar year and my own custom compilation of textures including some quandary textures, some painterly textures, and some original work. These are included for reference, so feel free to use or not use them at your own discretion. The nether textures I've modified are particularly scary. Enjoy! http://www.mediafire.com/?dfz9oz56fb6qus2

So, upon running launcher.exe, how can i tell it's loading a [random?] month? When I go look around, it looks like August, which I had been using last night when I played. Also, the grass tops are still bright green, instead of faded.

This is correct. It is November, so it's showing November. The next change will be December 1st and things will start to look much more bleak. At that point, you might want to relocate to a snowy area for a while just so you don't have to look at brown grass all the time. It definitely adds a sincerely unique atmosphere and will be even better when we get weather. It's worth mentioning that there is one exception and this is the reason we can't incorporate holiday packs as of yet. Every four years, a leap year will cut February short by one day. Since I haven't looked at the code for rotator, I'm not sure if it's locked to a 365 calendar or if it has coding logic to account for leap years, but since it was intended for general texture rotation purposes, I'm going to assume it's locked to 365. When this happens, I'm guessing the calendar will lag behind one day after the end of February. I haven't tested this yet, so don't quote me, but based on a basic assumption, I would bet that would be the case. If I ever find out otherwise, I'll be sure to put together some holiday packs and redistribute.
On a side note, I tweaked the seasons to match my region, which is south-eastern US, so September has green leaves, October has yellow, November orange, and everything until march is brown. Also, I don't know where on earth you find gray clay, but this region was once volcanic, so we have large iron deposits in our soil giving the clay a rusty red color, so my texture pack has been updated to reflect this. Also, that's the reason red bricks are red, so it fits the game a little better.
Hello
This is a report for the creator of this texture pack.
It seems that some of the pixels in the stone shovel and stone sword (maybe even the stone axe) are out of place.
Also, is it possible to get some customization for your skin (like the painterly pack)?
The way Quandary is now packaged, it can still be used with the rotator. You just need to move some files around. If you're already using the rotator, and it already works fine, there's no need to make any changes. If you're installing the new version of Quandary, you can do the following:
3. Highlight all 12 season zip files in bin, right click, and select "Extract each archive to separate folder". This tells winrar to extract each zip file into a folder named after the zip file. When you are done you should have 12 folders in /.minecraft/bin named Quandary01January through Quandary12December, inside of which are the texture files. If you don't have winrar, you can do this manually with any zip utility. Once this step is complete, you can remove the zip files from /bin.
4. Enjoy! Just use the rotator as normally described in the readme.
Sadly, I have been busy. If/when I have time, I plan to update the rotator so that it can use the files found in your texture folder, instead of requiring you to install the files to /bin as well.

The texture rotator checks your system calendar to see how many days it has been since Jan. 1. It then applies the appropriate numbered texture based on the day #. So if you have 12 entries in texture list.txt, you'll get your first texture on Januray 1st, 13th, 25th, etc, every 12th day. If you want each calendar day to match up to its Quandary month, and don't want it to be wrong on leap years, you can create an alternate texture list.txt with the extra entry. Just call it "leap year texture list.txt" and only use it on leap years.
I did write the program with a customizable list so that people could do what you're talking about, so kudos for sharing your modded texture list file! But could you distribute your modifications alone and link people to where to find the rotator and Quandary? You've removed my readme, and therefore removed my name from my work, and the part where I thank ExtraNoise.
This is my favorite texture pack hands down, but I was playing with the Brown and Bloom texture pack and love how the different biomes have different seasons in it. So that led me to try to get that same effect in the Quandry pack. I modified the terrain.png a bit, used the colors from the Brown and Bloom pack, and came up with this:
Here's one with more green:
Obviously, the one issue is that the sides of the grass blocks are still the same color as the original Quandry grass. I'm not sure how to get around that, and I don't think Notch has coded the sides to work with biome colors yet (correct me if I'm wrong). Anyway, I think the result looks pretty neat. Here's the terrain.png, in case anyone else is interested. It should work with any gradients you want. (you'll have to rename it to terrain.png, sorry)
Obviously, the one issue is that the sides of the grass blocks are still the same color as the original Quandry grass.
Since you are comfortable using image editing programs, I'd suggest you try raising the grass height on the sides of dirt blocks. It reduces the amount of clashing color that's visible, and until Notch fixes biome coloring, it's a nice workaround, imo.

If you are very sensitive to this, using betterGrass can reduce the eyesore. I believe it is part of MrMessiah's mods along with Ambient occlusion.

True. Brown and Bloom tries to fix this by not having any grass on the sides of blocks, but I think that looks ugly. The default texture pack has a tiny bit of grass, but that looks bad too. I'll see what I can come up with.

Sorry. I didn't even think of that. I'll be sure to be more conscientious in the future. I generally keep my work to myself, so I'm not used to release etiquette, but this is such an interesting modification that any possible improvement on the established concept deserves to be shared.
I wanted to share something interesting I discovered lately. Now that you've told me how your logic works, it makes perfect sense. Since it calculates the number of days since January 1st, in order to get an accurate 365 calendar, you've got to make the first entry the last day in December so that it will count up from zero. I discovered this in testing for holiday compatibility, I realized the days between months were lagging by one, so it occurred to me that the logic must work that way and a zero date would need to be put in place to account for the logic. Since it only impacts this single circumstance, I would not recommend changing the logic as it works fine and it's easy to make the first day of the texture list the last day of the previous year.
I agree with the specific leap year texture list solution, which has inspired the idea of making yearly updates. Since this would make my project somewhat formalized, I'll be sure to include all appropriate readme files and give full credit where due. I'm waiting to see what all changes with the next update, but shortly after, you can look forward to seeing my next release of the 365 rotator texture list w/ included textures for holidays and a 2011 leap year texture list. Per your request, I'll be glad to link to the page for rotator so users can grab the app from the source and then install my pack on top of that. Also, I'll start a new thread since my project has grown enough that I shouldn't be piggy-backing on the quandary thread, although the quandary pack is amazing and was the original source of my project. Of course, as aforementioned, I'll gladly credit and link any and all where due.
Thanks, all. I appreciate everything. This game is freakin great.

Hoping for a new update to get the tools fixed.
(If you'd rather start fresh, you can erase /bin, and download the updated version of the rotator package from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/quandaryrotator/files/ just follow the new readme instructions)
1. Copy your Quandary season zip files from /.minecraft/texturepacks to /.minecraft/bin
2. Modify texture list.txt (found in /.minecraft/bin after installing the rotator) so that it reads as follows:
Quandary01January
Quandary02February
Quandary03March
Quandary04April
Quandary05May
Quandary06June
Quandary07July
Quandary08August
Quandary09September
Quandary10October
Quandary11November
Quandary12December
