Hey Vexx (and anyone else who cares), what do you think of this sandstone?

Another thing I wanted to ask for a while now: Why isn't the grass biome compatible in this pack? I started a new world last week, and It doesn't look to good in the desert.
I took out grass biomes because I hate that the sides of the grass aren't affected by the color change.
When Notch adds some sort of support for biomes on the sides of grass, I will add them back in.
To me it looks way much better than the current one. A little bit lighter perhaps?
As for the grass biomes, no way to include them in an "extras" folder or something? The side grass bug is stupid and I don't know why it hasn't been fixed yet. It looks strange, but I don't think it ruins the different grass textures completely.
If you take the file misc/grasscolor.png out of a vanilla minecraft.jar and put it in the mixcraft HD.zip, it will enable biomes. Also, if it isn't looking like it works well enough, you'll have to edit the terrain.png with photoshop, GIMP, or Paint.NET so that the grass texture (top left) is grayscaled. Once you've done that, increase it's brightness a little bit. (Photoshop is easiest for me - I can do it if you are having trou ble, I already do it to every version of Mixcraft because I prefer biomes to unnaturally green grass).
I could send you my edited files, if you want :smile.gif:
@Koolwitak:
there should be an alternate terrain.png with a grayscaled grass texture and an alternate grasscolor.png with some good biome support :wink.gif:
The GIF is actually pretty good, except for the somewhat poor quality... Wish we could do animated PNGs... Your sandstone is a bit too yellow, but otherwise good - just lighten it a bit. Trust me... Lighten it up and it'll match the current sand perfectly... Unless you want to change the current sand to be an ugly yellow to match that sandstone :wink.gif:
I made a gif comparing the original to this one, what do you think? Is the transition too slow? Too fast?
The gif looks fine to me, and it showcases your work compared to the original texture pack; however, I think having the static pictures side by side would be best. I was getting a headache with them flashing back and forth between the two photos as I was trying to see what all had changed. (It may be due to them not being exactly centered on top of each other, which of course is a pain to do.)
Also, my friends and I enjoy using your texture pack. It has made us enjoy the game a whole lot more and we can't wait till the next updated pack is released.

(Ignore the outline on the middle block, that's just because my crosshair was on it)
I like it a lot. If I were going to get rid of the squarish bricks for the sandstone texture (while pointing out that actual sandstone used to build things is almost always cut into regular squarish bricks, but whatever LOL), that's the way I'd do it. Looks good.

Yes, I'd like that. I suck at photoshop, GIMP or any other image editing program anyway. I'm keeping your instructions for practice purposes :smile.gif:
@Koolwitak: - Your latest sandstone looks really good to me.
I'll upload it as soon as I get home :smile.gif:
That is... IF I can get my stupid computer's boot sector patched up :/ it keeps screwing up... My money's on rootkit...
@Koolwitak, try it at about 20% lighter. It'll match your lighter sand, as it should. Try and remove a little bit of your yellowish tinge as well, if you can.
Oh... And also... Knowing that Sandstone has three textures, may I recommend making a second version to go on top and bottom? Make a smooth one for those :wink.gif:
It's simpply because koolwitak decided to disable biome compatibility by making a blank grasscolor.png and then make grayscaled wild grass because it uses biomes. Koolwitak... Just enable biomes... Please. It's so much easier. For people who don't like biomes, they can always disable it themselves. It's not difficult.

Until this happens, can you suggest a fix for me? I'm comfortable editing textures.
You'll need to replace koolwitak's grasscolor.png file with a standard one. It's in the misc folder. If you find the normal grass texture goes weird after this, go ahead and grayscale the grass texture in terrain.png. It's the one in the top-left. Good luck :smile.gif:
I have to do this every time Koolwitak releases an update :sleep.gif:
EDIT:
For the person who wanted my terrain.png file and the normal grasscolor.png files, they're below (I'm still using my own sandstone texture cuz I'm not 100% happy with Koolwitak's version.
Grasscolor.png
terrain.png
(right-click -> "save image as", then save to somewhere as grasscolor.png or terrain.png -- doublecheck the names -- and put them in your minecraft.jar. The Grasscolor.png goes in the Misc folder of the jar.)

Thanks a lot. I ddin't see much difference just replacing the grasscolor.png so I had to grayscale the grass like you suggested and it looks way much better now.
The side grass bug is annoying, but I can live with that until it gets fixed.
Or... you could just make it less vibrant green if you wanted. I think the most common color of grass in the biomes is the color you can see in your picture, so if you made the side grass that color, you'd hardly ever notice it.
To me it's almost perfect the way it is now. The only thing missing is the side grass fix. I've just tested in a non-desert biome. The green is less vibrant than the original Mixcraft texture, but greener than the desert one. I really like details like that :smile.gif:
I really love this texture pack, the only problem I found is that it seems that light (torches, fire, lava, etc.) arn't as bright as vanilla minecraft was. I had to put twice as many torches up in my house to make it bright enough for my taste. Anyone else seem to notice this or is it just me?
The textures are a bit darker than the vanilla minecraft ones, but it's just a side effect of having better detail. It's not easily avoidable. If you don't like it, just increase your brightness or gamma values until you like it. You may find that this is unsatisfactory, due to the fact that many things become hard to see on occasion. Using Betterlight does increase the dimness a bit, but also makes the lighting more even...

I think your gif is good as is. :smile.gif:
Maybe... I will look into it when I get back after this weekend
Quick! I need two more people to post so I can post the new terrain file on the top of the next page!
