QQ I went through all 8 pages and read every single one hoping for a release. :sad.gif: Please release soon! It is probably /THE/ best texture out there. I seriously cannot wait for it to be released!
Haven't decided what to do with red torches yet, wanna do something different than the plain red torch.
The bookshelves look great singly, but I'm not sure how much I like the gap between them when they're stacked, which is what most people are going to want to do, I think...
I have to second some of the early complaints about the plank texture; right now, they look more like popsicle sticks to me due to the rounded edges, which also keep them from repeating properly for other things, like, say, a ship. An alternative with straight planks would be fantastic!
Since you went ahead and made the torches lanterns, why not do something like that for redstone torches? Since they use redstone, which is a higher-class mineral, you could do red mercury in a tube or something steampunk like that.

Looking forward to this!
I love hearing new ideas and positive criticism, thank you for that. I was kinda thinking something like a black stick with a glass ball on the end for red torches, but I think you are right, another style lantern would probably be best. Maybe an ordain fancy style with a small center that glows red.
The border on the bookshelf Is currently 2 pixels wide, meaning if I made it thinner It would be a plain one pixel border with less detail. Ive thought about doing something with the glass border to retain detail but make them slimmer which I haven't tested yet, which would be to remove 1/2 of a 1 pixel outline like so _| so that when stacked it completes the border, keeping the detail but making it slimmer. Just haven't tried it yet because I'm not sure how they will like when placed single. I will keep that comment in mind and try that idea on both glass and bookshelf.
As for the wood I've gotten several comments about people not really liking it and the more I play the game the more I feel they should be squared off. I want to keep the same off centered misaligned look but square the edges more. Almost got into that yesterday. I know some people like the wood how it is and it will be included in the texture pack probably as an extra un-used block, so people can go in and pick and choose which ones they wanna use.
I have always planned on having multiple designs for several blocks added in on the bottom to make my texture pack customizable.
That said I will officially say my pack will be out before October 31st.
Notch has made the statement that he will be making current torches extinguish over time and also will be adding in proper lamps. I want to have everyone experience my custom lamps before that happens. Once the October 31st update is released I will be hard at work making sure my texture pack is 100% up to date ASAP, before playing and enjoy it.
I look forward to have a proper hanging lamp to retexture!!
Worked on a bunch of blocks tonight, squared off the plank edges so they aren't round anymore, Here's a grass texture I played around with tonight, don't mind the tiling issues, haven't bothered to fix it yet because I'm gonna try a few more first. *ROUGH PICTURE*
Here's the planks, needs touching up but they look cleaner already.
If all goes well I might be able to release it this weekend. Keep your eye on the thread for daily updates.
The planks look much better now. But I would recommend making a small change to the bookshelves. I think you should remove the borders on the sides, but leave the top and bottom. That way when you have several next to each other they tile nicer.

That would look awesome for bookcases that are enclosed like the ones in that pic, but if you put a single stack of bookcases with no side borders it might look strange. I'm gonna play around with the borders a bit tho and see what works.

Of course placing bookshelves out on their own will always look strange because the books on the side seem to go into the ones on the left. If you really think about it, it doesn't make sense, the book on the side would be in the same space as the ones on the front. Because of this I try to avoid placing them standalone, or on corners.

I also agree that the planks look much better squared off. The only issue I see with the new design is that they repeat a bit too much when lined up, giving you regular lines of large planks and two lines of small planks, but they're not in any particular pattern. If they alternated regularly or something like that, I think it might look a little better.
I'm absolutely loving your bricks, but when put together with the wood like that, the orange/brownish tones seem to blend together a bit much for me. Maybe a hint more yellow in the wood would help differentiate them a little more?
The grass looks fine to me, honestly -- almost like a windswept field. If you wanted it to repeat better, I'd just put a little arc on one side so that you get that serpentine pattern across blocks in any orientation. It feels more alive than most grass tiles I've seen!
Yeah atgm, I think I mighta kept going back to that grass texture because it has a lot of character, something that monotonous clean tiling textures seem to lack. The thought has crossed my mind to make it more of an intentional patterned tiling texture. I'll do what I can to retain its vibe.
And the bricks and wood sharing similar hues will be kept in mind next time I tweak the color balance.
On tonight's plate: Play with grass a little to clean it up/instill a pleasant pattern. Bring dirt hues up to snuff. Get the mine cart tracks done and decently presentable. Maybe work on red torches.
This makes me happy...this thread was once dead and many had lost hope (even me) that this would even get done..but you sir Have instilled hope in me and many others that this will get done :biggrin.gif:

This guy looks wise. Listen to him, Emperorr.

Rather than:
big
small
small
I'm suggesting:
big
small
big
Additionally, for the planking pattern, it's entirely possible to alternate in one block:
break in the middle
break on ends
break in the middle
etc.
And the bricks and wood sharing similar hues will be kept in mind next time I tweak the color balance.

Yes someone has (not trying to be rude), if you read a few posts ago someone mentions this and Emperorr replies about this
