Edit: Can you change planks? They dont look very "woody"
No.

Hey bro I really like the idea, do you mind if I work on an alternative version of gloomcraft? I will mention you for having the original idea :3
If you mean "Start my own texture pack from scratch taking inspiration from this one" then yes.
If you mean "I'm going to copy your textures and edit them and pass it off as my own" then No.
Just so you know, I'm what my friends call a Techno-listening-Goth-Wanna be. I have shunned many a texture pack because I was displeased with the selection and wanted something a little more Charles Addams.
You, sir, have filled that need. I enjoy this pack very much and thank you for your work.
9_9 If it matters, I do Let's Plays, like hundreds of others, and am planning on using your texture for them from now on.
Thanks you, sir. Here's three diamonds for your efforts.
Overall, I really like this texture pack. Theres a sort of Soul Reaver 1 feel to it with how bleak it is. The mobs look quite good as well. Overall my best bit of advice is to keep doing what you're doing with this mod. It'd really like to see you finish adding the rest of the textures.
As far as criticism, there seems to be a few technical issues with items not being held correctly. Minor but kind of annoying. I also have to say I really dislike netherrack. Its really bland looking I'm afraid. It doesn't jell with the rest of the mod.
The sound pack is quite good as well. I kind of with that it just used the default sounds for sounds that are absent because I assume there isn't a relateable sound from the game you took the sound files from, like chickens, getting out of water, ect. ect.
You are the ultimate MSPA fanboy. It's you.
Anyway, this texture pack looks..
uhh...
Awesome.
But I won't use it >_>. I'm not really into scary things.

Interesting considering I've never played any of the Soul Reaver games, or even heard of them much. Maybe I should give it a try sometime.

If you mean shovels and knives and plows then it's between holding them incorrectly or slicing your enemies in an incredibly silly manner. To be honest I haven't given much attention to the nether textures. I really find the whole place to be rather boring. Got some new ideas recently though.

If I understand what you're doing here correctly then I must inform you that you are to merge the soundpack with the existing sounds, not replace it. For win7 users like myself, this simply involves dragging the sound pack folders into the same place where all the sound folders are for minecraft and clicking some "yes" buttons. I feel sorry for anyone who has to make do with less.

Please kind sir, what did you use to change the name of all items? (Not sure if i posted this b4)
1. went into the minecraft.jar file
2. went into the lang directory inside
3. retrieved "en_US.lang" file
4. edit with Notepad++
I hope that answers your question. If not then please be more specific.
Interesting considering I've never played any of the Soul Reaver games, or even heard of them much. Maybe I should give it a try sometime.
Its an interesting game series. Soul Reaver 1 for the original Playstation is particularly ahead of its time. Its essentially a 3D 3rd person Metroid based on consuming souls and gaining new powers and abilities to assist you in exploring the bleak, Gothic landscape. The games as a whole are fun and surprisingly well written and well acted, though the plot gets hilariously convoluted by the end of the second game. I though recommend ignoring Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 1&2. They're canon, but they don't have the same mark of quality. If you ever feel like trying them, the order goes Soul Reaver 1 (The best in the series), Soul Reaver 2, and finally Legacy of Kain: Defiance.
If you mean shovels and knives and plows then it's between holding them incorrectly or slicing your enemies in an incredibly silly manner.
Understandable. I just think its probably better to have them used as they are originally intended to.
To be honest I haven't given much attention to the nether textures. I really find the whole place to be rather boring. Got some new ideas recently though.
I agree the nether is pretty boring. I do use Netherrack for various things, which is why I'm kind of disappointed by it in the mod. Generally, if I want to build something to look evil, I replace the surrounding area's grass with netherrack, to give a kind of corrupted feel to it.

Oh, duh! This is me doing something kind of dumb and not reading properly. Yeah I just deleted and replaced the files before. Now I've got it working properly.
You haven't met my girlfriend then.
Out of curiosity, what is MSPA? I've never heard of it and have no clue what you and that Knux guy are referring to.
Really seems like my kind of game, but I'm afraid I won't be able to get my hands on without some, shall we say, help.

In my opinion it looks corrupted, but in a Silent Hill-esque sort of way. With the natural tessellating terrain changing to stark red grids giving it a feel of being unnatural, and in some ways, like a prison. But I will be making a new netherack texture along with new textures for all nether-related things, the question is what color? I personally think the nether is a little too red and it makes the atmosphere feel a bit forced.

I agree that natural netherrack is a bit too colorful and pinky. I think the reddish brown color you used are a better choice, but I'm not a fan of the grid look. Netherrack should look more natural looking Imho. Are you going to be changing the Ghasts much? I actually like the way they look.
Most refreshing. While I prefer my packs in 32x32 (and would just squee if you'd convert this to a higher resolution), I love seeing original packs like this. And the fact that you took the time to add a soundpack speaks volumes. I adore it. Will follow.

I will be changing them completely, but the old texture will be kept in the pack as an extra for those who liked it along with some palette swaps.

Maybe in the distant future I will make something 32x32. Thank you for the compliments, as I know this is a rather niche interest pack I value every follower I can get.

Hrm. That actually gives me an idea. Cetus, you should totally add a texture for signs that make them look like Tombstone esc. stone tablets.
Not that I'm all against it but what kind of tombstone is supported on a post?

No clue. I'm rather ignorant on programming related stuff, including textures, and just figured that you could do what you did with things like mushrooms and make them radically different, ignoring the original shape.
Edit: Good news. You will soon be able to say goodbye to the ugly default water and lava textures.
Also my ANGER at the shittiness of so many other people's texture packs is propelling me to explore modding opportunities, including easier installation and custom recipes.
I'd love to see this in 32x but I'm not complaining either as this is easily my favorite 16x texture and probably the most original and creative pack I have seen in any resolution. Thanks for the great work so far and I can't wait to see what else you do with it.
Also bump for art that deserves more followers and views!
No.

Oh and wonderful sand stone!
Update 2/26/2011
-updated .lang file.
-clarified that .lang file requires META-INF directory to be deleted to work.
You, sir, have filled that need. I enjoy this pack very much and thank you for your work.

Also new release.
It has weird items.
You have been warned.

-New Netherack+SoulSand textures
-Ghast+Manzombiepig
-Sounds for Ghast+Manzombiepig
-New mushroom textures
-Lever+Redstone Torch
-New bowl/soup textures
-Pork+CookedPork
-TNT+Gunpowder

Things left to do before next release:
-Presentation (Screenshots and stuff)
The next release will also feature all alternate textures for both creatures and terrain, all contained in a neat little extras folder in the zip.
Unfortunately I will not be doing water and lava for a very long time, due to the sheer difficulty of the matter.
