You can also see the very early stage tree texture. I'm trying to go for a gnarled look for the trees.

I can't really tell what most of them are supposed to be to be honest.
I like the eye one too, but yeah, some of them are just...
Odd. Like they wouldn't make sense to be made out of wood.
Maybe the above picture will make it clearer.
If not; From top-left to bottom-right:
1. purplish chest with single eye ornament
2. the ornate chest
3. workstation covered with sheets (it will look better in reality)
4. chest covered with sheets (it will look better in reality)
5. chest with tooth-like decoration (it will have more chest-like parts when done)
6. chest with eyes (it will have more chest-like parts when done)
Otherwise, you have to be more clear about what you mean!
I managed to completely miss this post. My post re: using the wooden plank texture as the texture for half blocks exclusively was in reference to your previous post, mr. Amicus.
Also, if you want your trees to look gnarly, consider adding a big ol' knothole to the tree texture. I'm not sure if that would tile well, though.
I agree with snoozlebee; the wood planks in your most recent picture look like old wallpaper. Perhaps a black-brown color would look nice, or perhaps you could make the wood just a little bit reddish-brown in a way that makes it almost seem like the insides of the trees are bloody meat (but only in a way that makes it SEEM like it... not sure if I'm getting my idea across clearly).
Aaaand it seems I took so long typing this that it's practically obsolete :C
EDIT: The logs look a bit too reminiscent of sand blocks, but that may be just because I've used the zelda overhaul texture a couple of times. They still look really good though, and like they're headed in the right direction for old and gnarly wood.
EDIT EDIT:

Wooden planks gone horribly wrong/right.
these were the blocks I thought should be used for half blocks earlier, but I just want to see them used period. They look really good with the other blocks in this picture, and I'd hate to think that this would be the last I see of them (but life goes on regardless).
Re: gunmetal wood - it looks more like creepy old wallpaper to me, honestly.
Creepy was what I was aiming for!

Sorry...
Apology accepted.

And maybe you should make the logs the same color as the wood planks?
The bark and the wood don't have to be the same color, overall the colors are rather tentative at the moment, I will make them more sensible later on.

Ah, okay. I wasn't entirely sure, as they indeed look like they're covered in plastic in the sketch. (Though being covered in plastic would be fairly creepy, honestly. Either way could work!)
Well okay then!

Yeah, that's exactly why I'm not adding a knothole, it would tile horribly.

I tried making them a dark reddish-brown but it just looked too... normal, but we'll see if I can improve them.

I'm definitely making the color darker.

They look more like a metallic texture, maybe I'll make them iron blocks or something. Also, I said "gone horribly wrong/right" because I thought that while the texture looked good, it didn't look wooden, so yeah.

Also: this post is a complete and utter mess.

I should have been more clear; to me, the texture of the wood makes me think of sand blocks. The color looks good, but if you see room for improvement then by all means take action.
I think the last iteration of the log blocks would be better suited to a higher resolution. Would it be possible to streamline the texture so you could see more detail?
Also, do you plan on depicting the heartwood of the logs (like this: )?
First attempt at dirt/grass, looks pretty awful so far.

Streamline how? And I'm not doing high res textures.

Yes.

Neat! and if gun/metal doesn't work? why not black? black is a good scary color..
I agree. A dull color like that (green mixed with a bit of its complementary color red will make the color duller, and the blue will make it look colder) can easily make for a dreary, depressing color.
The temple looks menacing with these textures. I really like the wood texture, though not necessarily for treestumps. I feel they make a great "wall of twisted vines", and making a tunnel with them mixed with the leaves could give a feeling of being lost in a very thick and dark (even menacing) forest. Definantly want to see more of this.
Well, this is just incredible.I haven't used it,but it's still awesome. If only I knew how to play OGG audio files so I could see what the sounds are like.I'm probably not going to use this, since I want to keep my Minecraft how Notch wanted it,but if I ever do skin it,I'll probably use this masterpiece.

Yo dawg I heard you like playing Portal so now you can play Portal while playing Minecraft while going to Hell.

Yes.
Black stands out a lot though.
Try making the grass greenish-purpleish?
Chumhandle: electronicAssassin
Doesn't make much sense.
I do like your ideas for the chests though.
Looks like peanut butter...
In Another thread, you said that you'd be able to finish slimes right? :biggrin.gif:

This project is currently on hold while I work on something for someone else, but when I get back to it slimes will definitely be first.
Okay then :biggrin.gif:
