Well, I'll be the first to admit it's heavily influenced by your pack. But it caters to an entirely different audience, and any similarities are just lack of originality on my part, and not intentional. I'll take the links down if it's offensively bad, but I thought there'd be some folks out there who were interested.
EDIT: I spent hours of work on this pack, and again, the influence was certainly there. But I only posted it because I felt it was significantly different. I'd rather take the fall and have you hate me less, though. So the links have been removed.
I wouldn't be making a big deal of it if most the textures weren't almost exactly the same. These are just a few. The mobs have similarities as well, but I didn't bother to screen-cap them.
Again, not trying to be a jerk. I'm flattered that my pack inspired you. It just seems disingenuous. I think you were headed in your own direction and do encourage you to push a little further from the source material.
I appreciate the half-hearted encouragement, but perhaps more prominent is the total humiliation that you've put me through. I'm quite certain this'll be the last pack I make.
I'm just a young guy who had a desire to share something I found valuable. Not trying to step on toes or tick people off. I'm just not that sort of person.
No, I get that! I'm honestly flattered. I don't want to squash you down. The opposite! I'd love to see things taken just a smidge further. I'm sure you can do it!
I honestly think I lack the originality to branch out. I've struggled with that in all of my art, and at this point I'm just better off sticking to the user-end of things. Keep up what you do, you're truly great at it. I'll continue to use your pack as long as you make it. I'm sorry I did what I did, and I appreciate your understanding.
I honestly think I lack the originality to branch out.
Originality can be hard to learn, especially in certain cultures, but it will come with practice. You just need to train yourself to see the world different. Here's some tips:
Don't ever copy and paste anything from someone else's work into yours. Even if it's just a "template". It makes it too easy to use.
If you must look at someone else's work, rotate it or flip it, but again, don't copy it, just look.
Take the game with you in real life. When you're out and about, think of how you would draw what you see, in your style.
While I see a direct influence from Frendens, there was no copy-paste in any of the comparison pics that I can see. All original work in the same style.
Natek7,
I STRONGLY suggest that you re-release and continue. There are several dozen PROMINENT packs out there that are nothing but copypasta compilations. You work here shows effort, originality and care. Don't be discouraged. This is a harsh forum sometimes, not that I'm saying Frenden was harsh, but the effort put into that comparison was more than I thought necessary. At the same time, to me it illustrated nicely just how you DID NOT steal anything from his pack. Inspiration and influence are hard to come by and you should take them where you find them.
I think you got pinched for not crediting your inspiration for the pack more so than cribbing others work. I think a simple "Inspired by Frenden's work - thanks!" would have avoided this.
Frenden,
I really am not criticizing you either. I think you made the same observations we all do when we see our influence in other packs. But you have enough cred here to crush an aspiring authors spirit with a negative word. Maybe a gentle suggestion to credit you as an obvious influence would have sufficed.
Everybody,
It's all good. Unless you're making a living off donations for your pack ( I am laughing at the very concept ) then who is hurt when your textures are appropriated by another author who contributes back to the community? Who knows how many are out there modifying and sharing them without posting them publicly here for everyone to use? I am a strong proponent for attribution. How anyone finds it acceptable to repost others work without crediting their sources is beyond my comprehension. I always assume it's a very young author who lives in the internet's remix culture and has no experience in higher ed, business or the art community and who has never had their own personal work taken without credit being given.
Pull that **** later in life and you're expelled, fired or shunned.
CREDIT YOUR SOURCES. Credit your influences if they're clearly visible, hell even if they're not. IT"S FREE! Just say it.
Once again, Natek7, Put it back up. Keep working on it. And good luck.
kabonos: I appreciate the advice. I'll keep that in mind.

This is a real shame in my opinion!

Thanks so much for this. I was feeling really defeated today, and this has lifted my spirits. I'm going to rework some stuff to make it my own, but eventually I think I'll put it back up here; with all the necessary credits. Again, thank you.

I also updated the other version, due to a small error I noticed (sandstone block was a bit too tall).
