Update 11/09/15: Fixed a couple bugs and stability issues. Thanks for the reports!
NEW (10/28/15): We're officially out of beta! Version 1.0.1 is available. Make sure you uninstall any older versions you're using (Old Name: MCP) before installing the latest. Any files saved in the old version will be converted automatically when you open them.
Minecraft Building Planner is a planning tool that allows you to design and plan out your buildings layer-by-layer, then view it in 3D!
Noteable Features
- Using a dual-view system, the program lets you plan out your buildings and view them in 3D at the same time.
-You can import your own textures and models for the program to use, letting you see your buildings exactly as they would be in-game!
- Import .schematic files for a quick building solution.
- View the materials list to get an exact block count for your project!
Important Notes:
- Only for Windows right now. Sorry Mac and Linux!
-The program will attempt to connect to the website to check for the most recent version number, to let you know if there is an update. No information is ever sent, only received, and this can be turned off in the program settings.
Features I plan to add:
- Import pictures to convert to pixel art
- Export as .schematic
- Linux/Mac Versions
If
there's anything you like or dislike about the program, you can message
me here, email me at [email protected], or
annonmously use the contact form on the website.
Just wanted to say thanks for this. It's quite convenient to finally find a replacement for MSP 3 days after I start looking for one! It seems like you put a lot of effort into it as well, and it definitely hasn't gotten the recognition it deserves yet.
My only real suggestion is regarding the hotkeys, in particular the layer swap keys and picker key. Both of these are rather inconvenient to use, considering all of the other hot keys can be hit without moving my left hand from the standard home row position. I understand it's probably for clarity (using the letter for the tool), but personally I'd prefer everything available on one hand. Tab/Shift Tab for layer cycling and D for picker (duplicate?) might be better, but ultimately all of these hotkeys are up to you. Also, Ctrl-S for quick save and Ctrl-Z for undo would both be wonderful additions.
Thanks a lot for this program! I don't mean to come off as super critical or anything, I really like it.

I'm glad you like it! Maybe I'll throw in a way for you to select your own hotkeys, so everyone could set it up how they wish. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm just getting back into Minecraft after a few years. I used to use a program called minecraft structure planner that had stopped working due to Java issues. Is this similar to that? Thx :-D

I spent about an hour trying to find software where I can design structure plans and look at every layer. I tried a few different things and this one is the best out of all of them. It runs smoothly, easy to control, and easy to learn how to use. all in all u should get it because it will save time when you are trying to build some complex structure in minecraft. I do lots of terraforming and this helped me design a floating island. I was able to easily follow the plans I created and build it in a world. Thank you for creating a really great software and I hope you keep updating it for later versions of minecraft.

Oh wow, I don't know what to say, that's so kind! And your island is epic! I am still developing the program, though my real job has taken over the past few months, so I've not had the time to add anything new (though I did release an update to add 1.9 blocks). Just haven't posted over here as it didn't seem to gather much interest, but the planet minecraft and website links are still active! I'm so glad you like it! Most of the time us developers only ever hear from users when there are problems, haha! Thank you for giving my little tool a chance

Haha, because the level of interest on this site was quite low, and I didn't want to be accused of "bumping" the thread (again). Both the website and planet minecraft page are up to date, and I can be contacted through either

Cool, I'll keep that in mind. While you're still here, I have a small feature request: It'd be real nifty to have an option to export to text the resource list. Not hard to type it up myself, but it'd be mighty convenient.

When i try to create a new file with 30 rows, 30 columns, and 30 layers , the program stops working and basically crashes. windows tells me that the program has stopped working. Am i doing something to make it crash or is it a bug of some sort?
I was building a little mini Hospital, that I had planned in MagicaVoxel already, to see how much better it would look - and using the MBP, I built it out of Stained Clay, and again in Quartz blocks, However, as I built the layers, due to the brightness in the 3D area, it was hard to see it in detail with either material. Is there a way to adjust the brightness? If it's not, would you be able to add this option?
Other than this, it's a great program, and you did a great job on it! I'll continue to use it for all my plans

Now that is awesome, I'd love to see it here, and I'm sure msbggem would too. Love this program.

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!
I'll definitely try it out when you have the Linux client out. Looks really useful and it would be nice to be able to plan out my Skyblock builds a little better.

I see that the website says blocks are updated for 1.10. Any reason the forum thread isn't maintained?
