My only comment is that I think needing to select and edit individual regions is an unnecessary restriction. I think it would be quite reasonable to stitch everything into a continuous virtual canvas and lazy-load chunks as needed.
This is great! But question: can I edit the noise of biomes?
How do you mean? Probably not. This program lets you edit which biomes are where in your world. Beyond that, it's up to how Minecraft handles forst, desert, taiga, etc. I don't know if a mod exists that lets you change sound effects based on biome, but that's outside what this program can do, sorry.

Thanks! I agree. It's far from ideal. It was a design decision from when I started developing it and wasn't sure if it would work at all. Now I have much less free time than I did before. And thinking of how to implement that while handling undo/redo, all the memory those bitmap layers take up, and how slow (or, well, not fast enough) my code is at reading and rendering a region makes my brain hurt. :/
So, you're abolutely right. Maybe eventually, but not soon unfortunately.
I love this program! I was trying to make an ocean block / adventure map for my server, but I hated the big square biomes I ended up with in MCEdit. Now my artsy side is making pretty pictures and swirly swamps
I've just discovered this and at first try it worked excellently and resolved a huge problem for me.
Now, is there any way I can get it working to cover ExtrabiomesXL and BiomeOPlenty biomes?
You should be able to add entries to the file Biomes.user.txt, wherever BiomePainter.exe is. For examples check out Biomes.default.txt. Also check out this post:
And I can restructure to match the formatting of the previous list to paste into the Biome.user, but where do I find the corresponding numbers at the end of each line?
By the way, if I can work out the BiomesOPlenty list I will post it here. Might be an idea if both were then posted in the OP to save people time?
Those are color codes, used for the biome highlight layer on the map, they can be whatever you want. You can try using, for example, this tool: http://www.colorpicker.com/. Then it's the 6 digit code in the box at the top.
I have to say, I'm in love with this mod. There is one problem, though easily fixed; would make it allot easier. When trying to make a mushroom biome and repopulating it, the grass persists and is not replaced with mycelium. But other then that, you did a swell job! <3

I understand, I'd recommend MC Edit for that though. So far it's designed to not touch blocks.
Though it doesnt touch blocks, it does repopulate ores etc - but does this mod repopulate custom mod ores? Would be useful if it did.
Good question. It doesn't actually add any blocks. All it does is flag chunks as not having been filled with ores or plant life yet. Then the next time that chunk is loading in Minecraft, the game populates those chunks, taking into acount whatever biomes they happen to be in. So, depending on how whichever mod works, it should add its ores too.
Is there a way to regenerate a whole chunk with this tool or not ?
No, it will only set it to repopulate, which will just create ores, trees (I think), and things like water and lava pools. It won't regenerate the landscape. For that, you need to actually delete the chunk in MC Edit and let the game re-create it and then you can use biome painter, but that will create the chunk in the current version of Minecraft you have running, which might not (probably won't) match the version that the surrounding chunks were created in, and you'll get a boundary around the chunk where the terrain doesn't match. If you're still running the same version of Minecraft, then it should work, but you need to delete the chunk in MC Edit first.

Hi,
Please forgive me if I've overlooked some crucial detail. When using the selection tool (the one that draws red lines) I can't seem to change the biome inside the selection. So far I've gotten around this by using select all and then gradually taking out biomes that I don't want to change, then mass-changing the rest.
I do actually want to change biomes within the confines of the red-line-bounded area though (mainly for OCD purposes haha)
Any help is appreciated
This is the best 3rd party tool I've ever used. it's easy, simple, and you can have minecraft open (not the world, of course.) You need more recognition! I love you.

This is just what i was looking for, however it wont work and says I need the .net framework thing but I dont have it, dont know what it is and dont know where to find it. why does it need this? was really hoping to use this mod today
Why do so many people think that things like this are mods? They are separate programs, not mods...
Anyway, nice program!
