I have just started using MultiMC and have noticed something that's kind of frustrating in comparison to other launchers i have used. Perhaps i don't understand how MultiMC fully works so if i'm doing something wrong, please let me know.
I would like to be able to remove a mod from an instance w/o it deleting the mod entirely. Launchers i have used in the past simply disable the mod by changing the extension from jar or zip to something arbitrary. Alternatively, you could copy the mod to the main mod folder and provide a means inside of MultiMC to copy the mod back when you want to put it back in.

Mod disabling will be in multiMC 5. probably similar to the FTB launcher, where the launcher will just add a dummy extension to the zip file (ModName.zip.disabled) but i don't know.
Ok, can someone tell me how much RAM I should be able to allocate through MultiMC with this setup?:

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!
Sorry to be a bother. I've been using MultiMC for a while now and have loved it! About a week ago i had to update my Mac OS from 10.6.8 to 10.8.3 I also ended up shuffling around files, so I ended up moving MultiMC to the applications folder instead of its previous desktop home. When I tried to use it today to create a new instance, it failed. I figured that was my fault for moving it and figured hey, let's start clean.
I downloaded a fresh copy from the OP and unzipped it to the desktop like before (since that worked before). Opened it up, created the first instance and named it Super Hostile (because I'm going to use it to try out some of Vechs' maps). Because of the errors I got previously I tried just running the instance as is, with 1.5 selected as the version. Got the cannot remove jar error, tried again so it would at least load - which it did, and crashed - and here is the crash report:

I'm having a very weird problem with MultiMC. Most of the time, I'm able to install mods just fine. But I've discovered recently that there are certain mods, such as pixelmon, that don't work. It's not that there's an error, or the game doesn't run properly. It runs the game, but that mod won't appear in the game. Again, I can use plenty of mods with no problem, but with a few very specific ones, it completely fails to appear in game. Is this a known issue at all?

I believe Pixelmon is one of the mods that you have to unzip some things for it to work. There are a few like that, that take a little extra love and care to get going.

I would sugggest only allocating what you need. No more. Too much memory allocation makes everything terrible, so only increase it if you get an error that says minecraft ran out of memory.

Oh, really? I didn't know that. Can you tell me what exactly I need to do?
I'm running Slackware Linux and am using the 64-bit Linux version of MultiMC, and MultiMC frequently terminates with the following error. Just now it terminated and I didn't even have an instance of Minecraft running. If an instance of Minecraft is up and running, I can continue playing, but MultiMC will still terminate.

Ok, so I've been away from Minecraft for quite some time (maybe even 2 years) and I've never used MultiMC before. There's something that's confusing me so I was wondering if anyone could explain it (either I'm misunderstanding something about how MultiMC is supposed to work or something strange is going on).
I've added my Minecraft instance to MultiMC and it's all fine and good, then for nostalgia's sake I decided to create a new instance of a1.0.4 using the built in MCnostalgia thing. This downloaded and runs fine, but it seems to be loading saves from the main .minecraft folder instead of the saves folder in the instance folder... I got the impression that each instance was supposed to be independent of each other and also independent of the original .minecraft folder.
Can someone explain what I'm doing wrong/misunderstanding?
I get what's wrong. Minecraft used to be coded in such a way that it specifically looks for appData/roaming/.minecraft/saves and saves all worlds there. Nowadays, It simply makes one in the .minecraft folder that minecraft.jar is in. Not much you can do about it, unfortunately. I think it has something to do with the limited saves thing, but IDK.
Can we get some redstone icons I have a test world instance that would love a fancy redstone torch.
redstone lamp:
redstone torch:
They may be small, but they're from the minecraft.jar, and they work just fine as icons. Simply drag/drop the image, right click save as, etc., and in the icon selection menu click add icon, and select whatever images you want.
P.S. I know you meant a custom, fancy looking torch, but this should still do. I only included the redstone lamp because the torch looked odd as an icon.

Minecraft has crashed!
I saw a post a few pages back about using MC Forge 611 as the stable version, so I re-created the instance using 1.5 instead of the newest MC and added forge (note: previous attempt had NOTHING - no mods, no forge, nothing -- this attempt had ONLY forge, haven't added any maps or mods yet) and still crashed:

Okay weird, while typing this MultiMC quit unexpectedly twice.... > _ > I've never had that happen with any program, even since the upgrade to OS 10.8.3 *sigh* Any suggestions? :-/
If you want me to respond to you, reply to me with the "Quote" button under my post.
I believe Pixelmon is one of the mods that you have to unzip some things for it to work. There are a few like that, that take a little extra love and care to get going.
update your LWJGL
I would sugggest only allocating what you need. No more. Too much memory allocation makes everything terrible, so only increase it if you get an error that says minecraft ran out of memory.
in the multiMC console, click generate crash report and post the pastebin link here. Also check system sounds and game sounds.

Oh, really? I didn't know that. Can you tell me what exactly I need to do?
Edit: I figured it out on my own. Thanks, though!

I would suggest right clicking on your instance icon and choosing "rebuild JAR."
go ahead and patronize him, but at least try to be helpful in some way instead of just yelling at him.

redstone lamp:
redstone torch:
They may be small, but they're from the minecraft.jar, and they work just fine as icons. Simply drag/drop the image, right click save as, etc., and in the icon selection menu click add icon, and select whatever images you want.
P.S. I know you meant a custom, fancy looking torch, but this should still do. I only included the redstone lamp because the torch looked odd as an icon.
