Here's my experience with Magic Launcher: It doesn't work. Period.
No matter how much I flog the paths and options, when I try to launch Minecraft the window pops up for a split second, then vanishes. Looking in Process Explorer, javaw.exe launches as a child process of the Magic Launcher process for a moment, then is killed. There's no errors in the log. Nothing odd, other than not damn working.
Here's what log I have when I start Magic Launcher, then press the "test" button in the setup window:
MagicLauncher 0.9.7
java.home: C:\Program Files\Java\jre6
java.runtime.name: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment
java.runtime.version: 1.6.0_31-b05
os.name: Windows XP
os.version: 5.1
os.arch: x86
sun.arch.data.model: 32
Very much compatible with Minecraft 1.2.3. This is a launcher for Minecraft, so the version of Minecraft isn't that much of an issue but rather the version of the launcher itself. Regardless, even if the default launcher for Minecraft is updated, Magic Launcher should still work fine at that time too. But, yes, it works fine with Minecraft 1.2.3. However, some people on Macs have run into certain issues that sp614x is working on.
Minecraft version: (modified!) 1.2.3 LauncherPath: /C:/Documents and Settings/mechwarr/Application Data/.minecraft/MagicLauncher_0.9.7.exe Error: Unable to access jarfile magic.launcher.Launcher
Use a clean(un-modified) version of the minecraft.jar file. Magic Launcher should work fine for you then. Specify any mods you want to use in Magic Launcher instead of modifying the minecraft.jar file. Magic Launcher doesn't like to work with modified minecraft.jar files like yours.
Also, Magic Launcher does not have to be in the same folder that the minecraft.jar file is in. Try placing it where you have the normal default Minecraft launcher placed (not the "/.minecraft" installation folder).
You might also be having a permissions issue. Are you sure you have full administrative privileges on your Windows User Account and that folder? If you place Magic Launcher in a different folder, I bet it will work for you.
If that doesn't work, also try using the ".jar" version of Magic Launcher instead of the ".exe" version.
This might be a bug but why is it that all my achievements reset every time I close and open MagicLauncher? \:
As far as I can tell, every time you use "test" you are given a semi-random new name, which will appear to have not played; so, no achievements so far.
Yes, I'd like to have my name kept for me even when testing.
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
I have not gotten Magic to work with 1.2.3? others having the issues or have fixes for this? I have not installed any 1.2.3 mods yet. I just get a black screen
SOTMead
Is that a question or a statement? I've got a 1.2.3 vanilla profile on my launcher right now. Chances are good it's not looking in the right directories for stuff. Double check paths and versions.
+1 to this
I recently had problems with a few MOD's ['SOTMead' know the one's I'm on about] & ML - although NOT with a white screen problem (Mainly graphic glitches or 'No Mod's Found' message etc)
I re-checked the appropriate MOD's thread(s) & found that EVEN THOUGH the version number was the same as what I was trying to use - the file had actually been updated/modified & now they work with 'MagicLauncher'
Also, are you on a 'Mac' or Windows/linux system There's been a few problems reported when running this on 'Mac' (I've had no troubles on a Windows system)
@ sp614x: just a suggestion..... Perhaps you should add to original post a 'Possible fixes for MagicLauncher problems [on Mac's] ' section, & add the suggestions that have been made (like update the LWJGL file - or 'JAVA Development' download link). At least people can try these out while you're figuring out what could be causing mac problems
Bravo sp614x !!!
MagicLauncher has become indespensible for me.

Of course, you already tried the ".jar" instead. But, did you use a "clean" minecraft.jar file first like I said? Or, the other stuff?
I am having a small issue. Whenever i put in a certain mod, it will usually say that there are no mods in the zip file. I have Modloader and ModloaderMP installed, and the zip files did contain the base mods as well as all the class files, but no matter what i do i always get (no mods found). Example mods are: Better Than Wolves, ExtraBiomesXL, Computercraft, even Forge. Modloader and ModloaderMP are fine, as well as Toomanyitems and most of Risugami's mods.
Hey?! What about me?! Didn't you see MY reply to your problem?!

I started with a clean jar file still the same error. I have full admin privileges, and tried running the jar file from 5 different directories. Still no luck. Thanks for trying to help iiiHuman. (ps sorry For missing your post. )
I just figured out the problem, I was using a batch file to run the jar file, insted of running it directly.

your problem could be casued by outdated lwjgl files.
do the following.
1. Go to http://lwjgl.org/ and download the latest version ( should be 2.8.3). Extract the files to a seperate directory.
2. There should be 4 directories in the directory you extracted the archive to (doc, jar, native, and res). Go into the jar directory, and copt the jar files there to you.minecraft/bin folder.
3. Next go into the native directory, and then go into the directory for your OS.
Copy those files to your ./minecraft/bin/natives direcory.
Hopfuly this will fix your problem.

If that doesn't work, try the ".exe" version of Magic Launcher instead.
Thank you. I had tried the ".exe" version, and installed the latest LWJGL, but I had not thought of reinstalling Java or my video drivers. I don't know if reinstalling Java build 1.6.0_31-b05 or updating GeForce from 260.99 to 295.10 did it, but Magic Launcher now works.
P.S.: Magic Launcher would be even better if it remembered the Minecraft window position. I have to move it up every time it launches in the middle of the screen.
I am trying to use Redpower. I want to make a change to the ".minecraft/redpower/redposer.cfg" file -- however whenever i change it, it seems that ML overwrites it? alomst like the mod is starting over from scratch again? how do i change this behavior?
No matter how much I flog the paths and options, when I try to launch Minecraft the window pops up for a split second, then vanishes. Looking in Process Explorer, javaw.exe launches as a child process of the Magic Launcher process for a moment, then is killed. There's no errors in the log. Nothing odd, other than not damn working.
