Alright, I did everything that your post says to do, I deleted the META-INF folder, and I renamed the correct files. I put my mods in externalmods folder, and when I open op minecraft, the mods show up, and then I click start minecraft. When I am playing the game, I can't get the mods to do anything. Why?

Thanks guys. You didn't click my egg, and now it's dead.
Hey, that rhymes.
I just need to know how to install a mod with folders inside the ZIP file
So, for instance, if this certain mod has class files and a "mods" folder, containing textures, make a folder and put the class files in the new folder? And what do i do with the folder, "mods", inside the ZIP?(it has .png files for textures)
Just tried, didn't work :sad.gif:
does it have a readme telling you where to put that folder and what mod is it
does it have a readme telling you where to put that folder and what mod is it
How to install?
You need Modloader
Go to start, Run, type %appdata% then go to folder bin and open minecraft.jar with winrar or 7zip. then put all the files from modloader inside and then all my files inside minecraft.jar INCLUDING MODS FOLDER! Don't forget to delete meta-inf folder as well!

those are the installation instructions
It is BlockyCreatures
and the mod folder is only the textures try puting it in the game.jar and see if that makes it work it wont afect game play since its only png files
I have a question, when "Resolve conflicts" is implemented, what will it do?, will it merge .class files together so the mods that are incompatible work with each other?, or will it just choose the .class file that works better?

In this case, you can just drop the entire .zip into the externalmods folder. What I was talking about is only if there are files that need to go somewhere else (like if you need to put something into the resources folder). If everything normally should go in the jar, then it should go into your mods folder. Putting it into game.jar works too, though, as you have found out.
Hey there I made a windows app which is a companion to Mod Manager, It lets you keep all your mods in a folder of your choice rather than having to manually place then in the C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming.minecraft\externalmods folder all the time.
You can edit the config file (modmanager.txt) to change which folder mods are loaded from. It's very easy to load mods from a folder on your desktop instead of the externalmods folder.

I made pistons. You might be interested in my mod manager.
So I'm still on 1.8 and I just tried this with a minor tweak to install: I patched game.jar (original vanilla minecraft.jar) with modloader. I figured since every mod and their uncle needs modloader having it always on wouldn't really affect anything, and it might get around the issue modloader was having. Haven't tried with it outside yet but I can confirm that it's loading everything with this setup. This is gonna make keeping my mods updated so much easier.
The bit about it loading in order but you needing to put prerequisite mods in reverse order still confuses me, but if it works it works.

So there I was, knee deep in cobblestone for the fifth time that day...
for some reason i get i crash when i put millenaire in the externalmods folder
EDIT:i am a dumb d***, i forgot to remove meta-inf
EDIT:that didn't help
Ur not the only one. I installed zeppelin mod and I get a black screen. Even checked to make sure I am not missing something. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/488434-100-zeppelin-019-wip/ I tried everything i could think of to make it work, but all im getting is a black screen. Gonna remove the mod and see if I can get the game running again.
Had to reinstall the game. It seems to me this mod has more bugs and complications at the moment than its worth, will just have to go without for a while. Its a great Idea tho, but Ill try my hand at the old method for a while. I figure I might as well learn how to do this. Might want to mod some other game, and Im told Minecraft has the best modding community in the world, so It ought to be a great place to start learning.
Before installing the manager, rename the existing minecraft.jar to game.jar. If you have overwritten the original minecraft.jar then you'll need to force update to get it back.
I had changed minecraft.jar to game.jar, after two unsuccessful installs, I'm worried this won't work.
do I install modloader the old way (puting all the .class files into the minecraft .jar) or do I install it your way (make a file inside the externalmods folder named modloader and put all the .class files in there)?

As I currently understand it, 1.0 can have it installed in the externalmods if you patch it with the patched file available in the first post. No such patch is available for b1.8 but I've got modloader installed the old way (make sure you put it in the actual minecraft jar that you rename game.jar, of course) and I've got all my other mods working installed in the externalmods folder, including forge.

cool! got it working. how about audio mod? I gotta say, this is the most helpful minecraft mod ever. thanks like crazy!!!
I made a more useful app for mod loader, It lets you install it with a single click, no need to rename minecraft or anything. It also has a few more options which may be useful.

What happens if you press "Rename minecraft.jar to game.jar" twice?
Give a man a fish, and he'll be fed for a day.
