When I add text to a map file and look at the map in-game, the original map function starts up again. Any reason for this?
This can happen if you are standing near the coordinates stored in the map item. Minecraft stores a position on the map item to know what area of the map to draw onto the map item. MapItemEdit uses a default of 10000 for the position on the map item.
MapItemEdit does not change minecraft at all, only the data files, so the map drawing in minecraft still operates just as usual. So if you are anywhere near the position stored on the map item, the drawing function will take over. If you have created a map item in minecraft, and then edited it outside of minecraft using MapItemEdit, the position stored in the map item will be where it was crafted. Be sure to change this position, otherwise minecraft will overwrite the map item when you get near to the position stored on the map item.
You know this is close to a rip-off off my program? If you think this is cool you should check out ImageToMap that was the first program ever (I think) that did something like this. ImageToMap also have many more features e.g. text rendering on maps and transparency.
you know this guy is smart by putting in mac support?
Just have some questions about maps that involves this program.
Since the map scale can be edited with this, what is the default map scale that is used by maps that have been made in-game? Also what does changing width and height do? Could it make rectangular maps?
By the way, I like this, I am only using it to configure maps for a server world I am building though. I am making it so that the 9 maps fit together perfectly.

This is a signature. There should be something here....
Oh wait! There is!
What problems are you having with the program?
Are you having difficulty getting it to run, or are you having difficulty getting the program to do what want it to do?
The program can do a lot of different things, so if I know what area you are having a problem with, I can help you out with it.
Hey there, I was wondering how you "paint over" a map. I can load up any picture or map just fine, but I would like to put an X on it or label where certain things are. Also, when I try to put in text in the map, it asks me to choose a font, but I don't know how. Help is appreciated Thanks.
I saw minecraft changed the data type of the dimension tag. So I made a change in 1.0.4 to MapItemEdit so it would read the new data format correctly. Seems minecraft accepts the dimension tag as Tag_Int or Tag_Byte, but MapItemEdit expected only Tag_Int. I'm going to make a patch to allows MapItemEdit to accept both Tag_Int and Tag_Byte. The map item file spec still says Tag_Byte, so I guess it just hasn't been updated.
MapItemEdit now accepts the dimension to be either TagByte or TagInt. This doesn't change the user experience of the program, just a low level change that should remove problems some people have been having.
