I just downloaded this tool because I had been wanting to see and explore at least one Stronghold. And so far the program is 0 for 2.
I put in my seed and went to the coordinates listed as the first two strongholds. I dug straight down to bedrock and then every other layer of blocks I dug out around me and didn't find a single thing. Well, nothing stronghold-related, that is.
I even got the suggested texture pack in the hopes that it would let me see something that at least had the general shape of a stronghold. No dice. During daytime while looking down through the layers I haven't found a single stronghold-related anything.

The mine ahead is dark, the spoils hard to see,
The torchlight growing weak and I feel the need for trees,
Back once more for coal, but the walls of stone are clean,
Something in the blackness stirs, sprinting after me.

Please provide your seed, what version of minecraft you were using, and what version of the finder you were using.

My seed is "Exploration" (which translates to 216667651 both in the Finder tool and the F3 screen). I'm using v1.0-beta, the one I'd downloaded from the download link at the head of this topic, and Minecraft is the latest full release (not 1.9 or 1.9-2).
Both the one listed at X -992 and Y -316 and the one listed at X 860 and Y -456 weren't there. The first I dug down to bedrock and then dug out around me on the way back up, nothing. The second I did the same, but then started placing TNT to blow bigger sections of ground away. In neither instance did I find anything Strongholdy.
Sorry if I'm coming off as angry.. I just don't know what's going wrong.

Ah, see the latest release is 1.8.1, which means you should use version 0.4.2 of this! Problem solved :smile.gif:
Skidoodle, you should combine a version dropdown box to the current version. That way, people don't get confused, use the wrong version of the program, and then say it's your fault.

If only... The way things are currently set up, I'm not able to do something like that. Although I'll obviously keep looking into, I'm just not sure how I'd go about it.
On a side note, some new features I WILL be adding:
-Different marker for strongholds
-Saved preferences (So it'll just remember whatever you had it set to last time)
And probably a bit later in the future:
-Using your save to move your character there.
-Biome searching
-Zoom for the map.
I was using the current .jar version on my Beta 1.9 Pre-release 2. It got my the coordinates, but the Show Map doesn't seem to be working and it didn't show any Villages, while the .exe version did.
On a mostly unrelated note, about the Stronghold I went to:
The seed was "Skidoodle," but try the number just in case I did it wrong. My point is it is the smallest Stronghold ever. Seriously, go there and check it. It's just a room and a staircase. I ran around the caves and Abandoned Mine trying to find more, but it seems there's nothing else.

Hm-- I know if you don't click "find" before clicking the map, there won't be any markers.
The way this actually works:
1.) The find button populates the list with objects containing the text you see and the actually coordinates, along with what type of thing it is ("Stronghold, "Village", ect)
2.) When you click Show map it just sends that list over with it. While the biome data is fresh, the coordinates are not.
However, if that isn't the case, it could be that the .jar file has it's memory limit too low, while the EXE lets the jar file use a bit more.
I just opened the .jar version and bashed numbers, then tried Find and the Show Map, and it worked. Weird... Also, seriously check out that Stronghold. I've been dynamiting the area trying to find more parts, but it seems it literally is only a room and a staircase. How is this even possible?

I have no idea. I know I've found a village that was literally two buildings. I know a great deal of the generation is random. Reading obfuscated code and actually making sense of it is hard >_<
The older version seems to work now, though the first of the three Strongholds is listed as "Invalid Biome."
I'm curious as to why the version of the Finder that works with the current Minecraft release would be hidden with a spoiler tag in a "previous versions" section, though. Not everyone is playing the 1.9 or 1.9-2 prereleases.

Why thank you.
I'm hoping my village/mineshaft finder should be done today, too!
Stupid mineshafts are giving me some trouble though ):<
THAT I can do.
What I'm thinking:
You input the start x,z, and range, and it outputs all the Strongholds and Villages in that area... along with providing a "biome map"
Unfortunately my seed has 2 invalid Biomes :sad.gif:
But the other coordinates have me on top of water. does that mean that the stronghold is underground?
Seed: -7567027649842796252
Stronghold 2.) X= -456, Z = -236
Also running v0.4.2 with Minecraft 1.8.1
Thanks for the help.

They currently are slightly slightly different colors. But I can change the shape too :tongue.gif:
Yes, I'm afraid so. D:

Edit:
There seems to be no changes that would effect this program.... Looks like it's already 1.9pre-2 ready! :biggrin.gif:
