Any possible chance you could add a feature for me? The ability to toggle spreading out the netherfortress icons by 8, since the icons are on the overworld map? The way I don't keep having to do math back and forth to determine if a stronghold is right next to a location I like or not.
This looks like a great program, but this forum page is hampered with a couple of problems. First off, I am having the same problem as QuipCloud and TimeNoise. I am using snapshot 21b, and the maps I've tried to load are for snapshots 21a and b. I can start the .exe file, but trying to load a map does nothing. Additionally, plugging in any seed instead of loading a map also does nothing. I attempted using the .exe and .jar zipped file, but the problems I mentioned have left me uncertain whether I'm doing this right. I had no idea where to put your "java -noverify -jar amidst.jar" line. Hunting around on the internet suggested to me that I tried putting that into the "Run" command prompt, and a window quickly opened and closed when I attempted to run that line. Nothing else happened. As you have no directions as to where that line goes, I don't know if I did that right or not. Additionally, you have NO installation information. I can only assume the lack of information means that it can be run anywhere, but since it didn't run like it was supposed to, my first assumption was that maybe it needed to be in my .minecraft folder, or some other specific location to run. Your video tutorials don't address that at all, and attempting to run it different locations did not change the complete lack of any activity by the program.
I hate to be down on any modder/program creator in this community as it's probably the most awesome community I've ever had the good fortune to participate in, so I would simply suggest that you cover some of these simple bases, like if it matters where the .exe goes, so that no one has to come back, and like me, say that it doesn't work, and not be able to give much of a reason as to why it isn't. Keep up the good work, and hopefully in the near future I'll be able to make use of what seems like a really awesome program.
UPDATE: If it helps you know what the issue might be, I just found the following: when I went to load said worlds that AMIDST failed to show anything for, the 21a map (which was run at least once with 21b) is nothing but black screen. No items bar, no nothing. The 21b map was total black, but the item bar was there, and I could see my sword in my hand, but it was very dark. I did see a few dark gray particles, so I'm assuming I was in the void. I'm glad I was smart enough to back up my maps. Hope you can get it sorted so less wary users don't run into similar problems. Good luck.

As is said on the OP, only works with 21a atm, not b. So loading a world into AMIDST that was created in a, but loaded up again in b, causes it to not show it, as is done normally when AMIDST isnt updated for the jar. In addition, for your void problem, I have founf that altering the .dat file by any means in these snapshots breaks it and puts you in that same scenario described. So either you tried using MCEDIT or something similar, or possibly by using AMIDST even though it failed, because it reads to see if the two are up to par.

I figured that was most likely the problem, but the fact that just using a seed, instead of loading from the world, didn't work either left me confused as to what the cause of AMIDST not working was. On a side note, the void problem I described popped up again later for no apparent reason, as I had neither used AMIDST or MCEdit on the save, so it might have not have even been a related issue, I don't know. I'm off to try the 21b update. Hopefully that will work!
UPDATE: Well, color me impressed. AMIDST works, and I'm about to set out to see if the given village and pyramid locations are good. There seems to be quite an impressive desert a couple of kilometers north of me, supposedly full of pyramids and villages.
This is amazing work Skidoodle. Be proud of your accomplishments.

You wouldn't be saying that if you had access to the source code.
I don't even want to talk about how ugly the code is for finding the correct classes for your version of Minecraft....
Gah, I hate not having time to finish the rewrite of AMIDST.
Wow. I'm really impressed with the accuracy that is maintained, I haven't had a false positive with anything yet (although there were several false negatives where villages near the edges of desert biomes failed to show up). Anyways, I just wanted to ask if abandoned mineshafts could be easily detected or not, since they seem more like caves than villages in terms of generation, although this might have changed when they started placing planks over ravines (I'm not really familiar with the technicalities of minecraft terrain generation). If it is easily feasible, that's one feature I'd really love to see implemented.
I love this program for previewing seeds. Outstanding. Also, no bugs to report so far with 12w21b. One small suggestion, though: In the Mac version, it'd be nice if the keyboard shortcuts used Command instead of Control. Control is the Windows standard; Command is Mac standard. Not a big deal, though (and it says a lot that that's the biggest complaint I can muster).

I believe last time I tried to check for mineshafts it ended up telling me 90% of the map was one... I never did figure out how to get that working.

There's a few other Mac bugs I need to fix too. While I generally use my desktop computer (Which runs Windows), I actually own a Macbook Pro, so I know where you're coming from.
Can you add on a function that searches for high percentages of a specific biome or combination of biomes?
Like...
I want jungle-ocean, so I check the boxes (jungle and ocean) and it searches through seeds with high percentages of jungle and ocean biomes until I find a specific one I like.
Maybe it could even have other functions like (find) stronghold in desert, or mushroom biome near 0,0
With this program that certainly seems possible and it would become extraordinarily useful for people who are looking for specific world types.
If this is possible you could even make it more sophisticated, like finding specifically "jungle island" which would look for a sufficiently high percentage of jungle within certain coordinates and a high percentage of ocean outside those same coordinates
Maybe you have it, but there should be a button for "random seed" so manual input isn't necessary when looking through worlds to find a good one, like CTRL - R being a button to generate a random seed.
ALSO, it should remember the decision between "default" "superflat" and "large biomes" instead of prompting you each time. Maybe there can be a little check box in the corner or something between the three options.

I can reliable reproduce crash after zooming out twice from the start.
Also it seems like render wrongly detecting viewport boundaries and spending half of the time generating regions that can't be displayed.
Ok, it REALLY running out of memory. Starting it manually with some 1.5Gb RAM helped just a bit. But it surely can be improved.
You generated a region tile? Store it as bitmap and discard generator data.
You need to zoom around? Zoom bitmap, not worth running generator over and over again.

I play Slave Hack, give it a try!
Saving is still disabled, but I should be able to change that soon enough.
so it become error~
good program btw~
If I was given a dollar every time someone downloads this, I'd be rich.
No... they give me about $0.001 (Tenth of a penny or so)

/\ THIS IS EPIC /\
If you're using 12w21a and higher, I've disabled moving/saving because of a change in how player data is stored.
