Idk why but it seems that its not generating the biome map properly for the snapshots... Its not showing the new biomes and the new layout. Im in the world with the same seed (im opneing the map with the file) and it has nothing to do with whhat AMIDST is showing. I made a separate profile for the tool with the proper version of the snapshot (13w37a)... i wonder what is not working. Even if i enter the seed and choose the world type it shows the map like the old world generation.
If you've installed the snapshot in a different directory, copy the /versions directory over to where your snapshot saves are. It's kind of a bass-ackwards way of going about it but it does work, and saves having to think about how to do it right.
Try the debug version of AMIDST; that will tell you what path it's looking in for things, so you can be sure what it needs is where it needs to be.
Awsome work dude, been using this tool for a year now and it's cool to see it working with 1.7 snaphsots.
BTW: When will you add the amplified option for the seeds?
Keep up the good work!
As Freso told you, amplified makes no changes to how the biomes are created. Although, I think AMIDST 3.2 does actually support amplified, it's just not on the drop-down list. Loading from a save should trigger it.
for some reason it' giving me a white screen and not showing anything, i tried loading from file and from seed. Can't give a stack trace because there is no error that shows up. What is going on?
As far as I understand it, "amplified" worlds simply use a different height map - the biomes and structure determination is the same as "unamplified" worlds. And since AMIDST doesn't do anything with the height map, an "amplified" seed X's biome map and an "unamplified" seed X's biome map would be identical (where seed X is the same seed).
Awesome program. Thanks for continuing to support it and the community.
I've wondered for sometime if it would be possible to just browse to the folder\jar file at startup. It's currently very convenient if everything is where it's supposed to be. It is a different matter altogether when %appdata% pathing/minecraft folders are moved for different versions. Anyway, thanks again!
I'm always looking to support more Minecraft setups, and this is something I will definitely want to add. However, I may wait until I have an official preferences page to do this.
I'm finding this utility quite useful. Instead of having to run MC and teleport to my starting coords, I can just hit Ctrl + R.
Now if only we could use settings to tell it to always use Large Biomes.
This is planned. In fact, it was planned for an earlier version, but has been pushed back due to time constraints. Although it's not difficult to add, there's still just so much to do.

Try using 3.2 and tell me what the title bar says.
It will with one exception: Profiles marked to run the "latest" version will not correctly work. To fix this, simply select a profile that specifies a Minecraft version.
Does that include snapshots?
I made a dummy account for the current snapshot to always use it.

That kind of error only comes from using a version of Minecraft that has been modified or is unsupported. What version of AMIDST are you using?
The newest (afaik, downloaded it yday or the day before) version, 3.2 or so, I redownloaded the minecraft launcher and made a new profile, just named amidst, for the newest working snapshot.
Im running windows 7 on a toshiba atm, if that matters at all.
I wanted to stop by and give appreciation for all the updates to this program. I've used AMIDST a lot in the past and will continue to do so when looking for seeds. Before this I did it the old fashioned way with creative mode and a map... which was quite a bit slower!
The new updates are awesome and so far the generation has been accurate. (The new icon is more satisfying to me than it probably should be.) I'm wondering if I missed it or if it's impossible to implement - but is there a feature that shows the spawn point? Thanks again for the great work.
Alright now it finds the freaggin jar file but doesnt loads ¬¬
it says using minecraft version: v13w37a | attempted 13w37a |
Edit: Now loads, finds the jar and everything aparently but it doesnt starts a map if i ask to, either if its from seed or file
It says in the debug window [info] Identified Minecraft [v13w37a], so i guess that means its running correctly
If you could get the rest of the debug window log, that'd be great. At the very least, you've avoided the most common issues people have. AMIDST is loading 13w37a correctly.

I don't know if this has already been asked because I don't have time to read all the pages.
However I have a problem: I have a Mac and I tryied multiple times to run Amidst but it doesn't even open. It try to open but it seems to crash. I run OSX 10.8.4.
Anyone can help me?
(I tryied with the latest version too)
Don't bother reading all the pages. Just check out the issue tracker linked in the first post. AMIDST 3.2 shouldn't crash on a Mac, however I do know some issues related to it that may causes problems for you. Try the jar version.

Is spawn location that important to people? (Serious question)
Yeah, it's completely appropriate for the typical usage that people are making of your tool. We are often trying to find interesting seeds to invest our time on, whether servers or SP, and knowing the spawn location while doing the "quick-searching" AMIDST allows without actually creating the world can help us in making those decisions, especially with scripts like people are starting to make.
And of course; being able to also change the spawn location for an already existing map while checking it out in your tool is the perfect complement to that. Sometimes the default spawn location of a map is bland but an area a couple thousand or even 20k away is incredible! Instead of having to give up the old server map they could just relocate to a whole new part of the old one, which they only discovered because of AMIDST! Then, if modded, they could still "portal" to their old domain when needed then go back to the new world while actually always remaining on the same map.
God I love this tool.

Unrelated, but: When I hosted a private server, I would just use Mystcraft and have portals going back to each of our old worlds as we regenerated the entire map. The backup size got a bit large, though. I even had a world from one of the original releases of Minecraft multiplayer. It surprisingly worked (after opening it once in single player to change the formatting)
I'm personally somewhat indifferent about it and just figure it'll be somewhat close to somewhere around (0,0). However, a lot of people have been requesting it, so I went and made a ticket for it: https://bitbucket.or...amidst/issue/40
Thank you very much. Tickets always make things so much easier to keep track of.
I'm hoping to move to a bit faster release model. At the moment, I think I'm going to stay away from many new features. (Specifically ones that require a nice preferences menu-- spawn location is fine) Instead, I'm doing bug fixes, and more importantly, performance increases. I think I -might- be able to greatly increase world generation time. Or at the very least, reduce the RAM usage of AMIDST.
Hi, im using AMIDST on a mac and its really helpful. But i cant seem to move my player because when i right click nothing happens. Can you fix this? Thx a bunch for you
Although through testing, I'm thinking it should be an icon-- not a highlighted area. Is spawn location that important to people? (Serious question)
Also the spawn chunks are important for those that implement complex redstone mechanics as the spawn chunks do not unload if you go far away from them.

I dont know how i can get the rest of the debug window, still i have an error when i load a file (aparenty it happens when i load a file aka level.dat).
The line says java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException
I took a screenie of my desktop, lets see if i can paste it and link it to you to read it cuz for me is a bunch of mambo jambo =P

Oh? You should upload your level.dat file somewhere. That would help! I think I have an idea for what the problem could be.

Does the blah blah blah of the pic tells anything to ya? For me it says something is wrong hehe but thats that... hehe. It doesnt happens only if i load a words level.dat, it happens even if i try to get the map from a seed or generate from a random seed so i guess my level.dat wont help =/
Man how unlycky can i be? Amidst ALWAYS worked for me without any problems... the worst part is that it seems theres no chance to be fixed, at least by now...

It tells me that somewhere AMIDST made a mistake in trying to find the correct Minecraft files to hook into. Specifically, it says that it couldn't correctly create the object in charge of biome generation. If I had to guess, your world is set to an odd type, or has some data that is throwing off AMIDST. Your level.dat file is actually rather small, and the only thing used by AMIDST, so being able to see it would help.

That's really cool. Although eventually the goal would be to have features like that built-in to AMIDST, this is definitely really nifty.

As Freso told you, amplified makes no changes to how the biomes are created. Although, I think AMIDST 3.2 does actually support amplified, it's just not on the drop-down list. Loading from a save should trigger it.

Actually.... maybe....? I messed around with it, and the code to do so is actually in the latest release (although it's internally disabled) (See: https://bitbucket.org/skiphs/amidst/src/568f6b889ea63bfd47a6c854ae3c003a9d07bf16/src/amidst/map/layers/SpawnLayer.java?at=master)
Although through testing, I'm thinking it should be an icon-- not a highlighted area. Is spawn location that important to people? (Serious question)
Nope. Spawners require block data. Block data requires a MUCH slower/less functional AMIDST.
Thank you!
