I ran the 1.8 version to find my strongholds and every single one was dead on location. I decided I'd try to find villages with the updated version on 1.8 even though it was for 1.9. Of the two locations that are within 1000 blocks one of them was right. I have tried three of the far away villages but found nothing but water. It's too bad there isn't a 1.8 version that was more accurate for villages or maybe it would be about the same.
I also found it strange that if I copied and pasted the seed from word, I got different results than manually typing.
Great tool though, would never have found strongholds and that village without it! just wish my village had a church or forge.

Probably a space at the end or something with the seed.
As for 1.8, the reason I don't support it is because I except 1.9 to come out soon. Honestly I didn't think I'd get it all working until then, but since I did, might as well not waste it, right?
In theory I could use almost all the same code to make a 1.8 version, but it's a lot of work to go to for something that will be outdated soon enough.
Well, it seems like Show Map and Find break after doing a few searches and pressing a few other things. I know at least that I'll try to use Show Map and have to restart for it to actually work.
This program really works!! I found a Stronghold with a ravine and a mineshaft!! Thank you dude!! and to you!!

This appears to be some sort of memory issue. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar enough with Java to fix it easily. But I'll keep looking into it.
I'll try to answer everyone else's questions in a bit. I'm feeling really sick right now, so I'm going to go lay down.
My found coordinates don't match with the markers on the map generated by the program.
Using Seed 2581471 and starting the search at X87 Z261 yields the following text coordinates:
Objects for seed 2581471
Found Stronghold at X: 24, Z: -664
Found Stronghold at X: 784, Z: 620
Found Stronghold at X: -792, Z: 424
Found Village at X: 0, Z: 4336
Found Village at X: 112, Z: 5632
Found Village at X: 1376, Z: 3856
Found Village at X: 2336, Z: 4704
Found Village at X: 2560, Z: 5136
On the generated Map rolling over the middle of the markers, it shows Strongholds at
111,-403
871,881
-709,681
And either I have a really crappy village spawning seed or they are all off the map. If I try to make it bigger it doesn't respond.
I traveled to see if the Stronghold was at X:24,Z:-664, and sure enough it was about 15 meters down. At the bottom of a lake, naturally.
I am using Minecraft Stronghold Finder v1.1 with a 1.9 Pre1 generated world updated to Pre2.
Worked great for me, at least for the first try. Found my first stronghold at the exact coordinates supplied, almost all the way down to bedrock, beneath an abandoned mine. Unfortunately, it was a little runt of a stronghold, with 1 zombie spawner, a few rooms connected by iron doors, a stairway, and no chests.
The spot marked on the map was off by about 100 in each direction, but the coordinates generated were spot on.
Now I'll move on to the next location and hope for a bigger stronghold.

I have yet to travel to see if the Strongholds are in either location.

I think this problem is directly related to the X and Z offset. I'll look into it and try to get an update before I go to bed :smile.gif:
Oh yes, and a lot of the villages mark off the map. I don't need villages that won't appear on the map. Also, one time the memory went off it seems, because I tried to change coords and everything was offset. The center point was waaay off the map and all the things were just... off.
An update for those of you who care:
Memory leak has been fixed!
Next I'm going to work on the X/Z bug, and then I'll release it.
Edit:
Okay, so the memory leak ISN'T fixed... but the X/Z bug is!
I fixed most of the memory issues, but there's just one that still occurs. I'll keep trying though. (Either way, this one only gets noticeable after doing like 100 maps)
Do abandoned mines come under the "stronghold" title now? Because all I found anywhere near the coords provided for the closest stronghold was a massive abandoned mine.
Hmm, it seems the first time I generated coords they were wrong, but I ran the program again with the seed still in the box and it gave me different coords the second time which were correct. Nice program 8)

Have you tried the .JAR version?
Bring it on!

I know. I mean that when you specify an offset, it reads it in as a larger number than it's suppose to.
